Why do people get upset when people talk about the past?

I often hear people say you shouldn't live in the past you should live in the present. Hmmm but if that's the case why are u listening to old songs or why are old shows being rebooted and brought back? It's obvious lots of people are living in the past and nostalgic then. You live in the present if u want, I wanna live in the past. Stay mad!

Listening to old songs and liking old shows doesn't mean you wanna "live in the past" what?:toofunny2: I get what you mean (and I don't agree) but its a stupid point

Because the past is colonialist. Or something.

Your point makes absolutely no sense. Otherwise you can’t listen to any music or watch movies because they were all made in the past. Consuming media from the past doesn’t mean you want to live in it.

You shouldn’t LIVE in the past but there’s no problem remembering it and enjoying good memories (or learning from past mistakes). When you stop looking forward to the future and stop trying to grow as a person is when you start to mentally stagnate. Also, there’s the old adage “those who don’t learn from their history are doomed to repeat it” that still holds true.

Maybe you mean when people do things like say “Back when they played REAL music” or “Kids these days, when I was your age…”?

If you are referring to music, absolutely. Music nowadays is pure crap in general. It has been since the late 00s with some exceptions, at least in the mainstream.

Could be Mom when she says a Song is old when it came out half a year ago.

I get upset when someone says the good ol' days, like shut up uncle Sam

That’s not what that phrase means. Google it.

Only ever heard that adage applied in a personal sense. Don’t compare a new relationship to an ex, don’t expect everything to match up to idealized, romanticized memories of the past. For art/music/history, it’s important to be familiar with the past to have context for what’s going on now
