SmittenCake Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Yeonmi Park is the face of North Korean deserters and has managed to pull the heartstrings of millions all over the globe. From publishing books that went on to sell thousands of copies to, making numerous appearances on television in America, South Korea, and Europe, Yenomi has made a name for herself. But what if I told you this was all an elaborate stunt to seek riches and fame? there's no denying that she was not suffering while living in North Korea, but it takes a dark soul to grift off the suffering of others and enabling the Far Right in America. As a former frequent subscriber of Yeonmi, I noticed over time that her stories started not to add up but what made me completely lose my mind was when she compared "wokeness" and the concept of gender-fluidity as something so sinister and foul that "not even North Korea would do this" after hearing this ridiculous statement around a couple of months or so ago the sirens went off in my head and it was my time to ditch. I immediately detected that she was a grifter and only saying all her nonsense for money. But how far did she go? you can find out more in this well-constructed video below: thoughts?
Robert Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 I read her book and was a big supporter but she has become very much an asset of the far right and is happy to throw minorities under the bus for money. A lot of people have pointed out inconsistencies in her stories too but I don’t want to get too much into that and excuse the horrors North Koreans face everyday.
shinri Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 I don't have any comments on your take, but I've noticed that at some point, there was barely a minute of new content on her videos and then she'd continue to say stuff she said every 5th video for another 9 minutes. What is she up to now? It seems she disappeared completely, not only as YouTuber but also as an activist
Communion Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Most people who become professional "defectors" from the DPRK have large holes in their stories because of governments like the US and ROK offering them huge amounts of money for certain stories. It's a shame since it's actually be interesting to hear more people speak their stories, the good and the bad, without the obviously fabricated stuff like "I once saw a man be laid out and rolled over by a tank in front of a preschool class for blinking twice in front of the great leader when you're only supposed to blink once!".
The7thStranger Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 Wasn’t she exposed as a fraud multiple times?
