Up to 78%. Is the Panned era in the room with us?

Seems like it'll stay upper 70s but hopefully pushes 80. Very strong for this type of film methinks

If anything, this kinda makes me more excited to watch it. :jonny5:

Ari, his most polarized era, I fear. :msmarvel:

Adam Driver after HOG: 65 (a flop and bad reviews)

Bradley after ASIB: Nightmare Alley (good critics but a box office bomb).

Maybe you have a point.

I was really enjoying it until like the halfway point, but it just lost me after that :rip:

Also I think I had set my expectations  up too much for this because of all the hype surrounding the film online

Can’t say I don’t recommend it though, definitely is worth a watch for how different it is

Spoiler

Fell asleep during the play portion so idk what happened there

I feel like the more it tried to explain at the end, the worst it got

Why do we have to wait another month for this in the UK :deadbanana4:

I had the chance to watch this at an advanced screening yesterday :coffee:

I have mixed feelings at the moment, it’s definitely a LOT take in and the most abstract Ari Aster film to date, David Lynch movies were definitely an influence. I did have a great time and enjoyed it overall, the comedy is brilliant, the cinematography is a visual feast, but there’s a lot to unpack in terms of the story, characters, and metaphors, which is near impossible to do in one viewing considering the massive runtime.

The unfortunate part is that the pacing is REALLY slow and you feel every minute of those 3 hours lol (some people walked out about halfway), so I’m not sure I could re-watch it at any time. Without going into spoilers – although I’m not sure if it’s even possible to spoil anything about the story – my favourite part was

Spoiler

the animated sequence from “the play”

by far… in fact it almost made me tear up, it was unlike anything I’ve seen before and hit right in the feels. The rest of the movie did not reach those heights again in my opinion and I was kind of underwhelmed by the ending.

Saw this tonight. It was way funnier and campier than I expected. Definitely worth seeing, but if you can, you must see this in IMAX with a big crowd.

I do want to see this movie, however, I feel like it was released at the wrong time. Audiences are probably flocking to Evil Dead Rise, Super Mario Bros., and the more frequent movie-goer is checking out Renfield and The Pope's Exorcist. I don't see this movie being a slow-burn success, especially with an RT score in the low 70s. I'm not sure I would even catch this in theaters because of other movies I rather see first.

I really hope this movie is good, at the end of the day. I really liked Hereditary and I LOVED Midsommar. I do think the runtime will deter people because asking audiences to sit through ~3 hours of an (allegedly) very weird and non-mainstream movie is a tall order.

this was never going to reach mainstream movie goers and A24 knows that. their entire marketing so far has been focused on a very specific demographic and audience because they know those people will watch it regardless of how long it is and what else is in theaters right now.

considering A24 and Ari already have at least one more collab in the pipeline shows that A24 enjoys working with Ari regardless of numbers or reception.

Gonna watch this again this weekend, but an earlier showtime so I don’t fall asleep like last time :toofunny3:

Actually excited to watch again even though I was so-so on it after the first viewing

I kinda want to see this but then again it’s 3h long 💀 recent films like Babylon, The Batman or Avatar 2 surely felt long and like 15-20min shorter would have been better.

Maybe I’ll catch this on streaming in a few months.

The movie reviewers that I have followed on YouTube and TikTok are overall lukewarm on it, says it starts strong but loses it in the end. These are reviewers that for a long time have the same taste that I do. :dancehall2:

even from people who have enjoyed it, this is the criticism ive heard the most and that you can really feel the runtime. to be fair, the end is, out of all the audacious stuff, the most ridiculous and over the top.
