I did and yes it is a mess, but in a very intentional way I feel. in the press statement (which is like 8 pages long lmao), Ari mentions that the script is almost 10 years old and that the draft that was filmed is more "emotional" and consise, but that its an intentionally episodic and melodramatic movie.

it seems like the part with the cult in the woods was completely redone, I don't remember them doing a play? I guess the aspect with the celebrities was taken out too. also, if you mean his mother dying, that's in the first 15 minutes of the film and also in pretty much every press statement now. I mean the twist is that she is alive so...

The twist isn't just that she's alive but also that she's the villain who orchestrated all his terror. I've seen outlets describing her as the antagonist when that's not supposed to be revealed nnnn

The whole stage part seems to be a new thing, I don't recognize those scenes at all. It might be going for a soundstage aesthetic like the movie Dogville.

I'm praying they take out the Michelle Obama running joke

I just hope it all has some sense to it because no one is gonna want to be confused for 3 hours. People hated being confused by JLaw's mother and that was only 2 hours.

The gunshot scene from the camp and some shots of Jeeves make it seem like the play is separate from the forest cult thing. And the angel motif throughout the trailer seems new too.

I love that they pulled an April Fools premiere and showed it to an audience the first time for people who bought tickets to a Midsommar screening. 

 

the early reactions have been very promising but they often are. people on reddit have spilled a bit and said it improves on the leaked draft a LOT

 

it comes out May 16 in the UK btw, we are getting it May 11.
