US Driver's License update requirements for domestic flights extended to May 2025

They have been trying to implement this for at least 9 years now.  Almost every person in the country should have had to renew and update their license by now right? Most expire after 10

years.

They can do a regular renewal if they want, but they won't be able to fly domestically in the U.S. after this new date if they do. Not sure if they're going to continue to be giving regular licenses out after this date but I assume they would given the administrative chaos if they didn't. The REAL ID has more requirements and costs slightly more and the date keeps getting pushed back from Covid backlogs. The merits of its application can be debated here, I'm just the messenger. REAL ID application also requires you go in person. They're some legal/political reasoning apparently behind not just mandating flyers over 18 acquire a passport in place of this I don't care to get into.

Give me my money back. I refused to get an upgrade since I have a passport but they made me anyway.

Either President Trump or President DeSantis IS going to make sure this is implemented when either's in office in May 2025 just from a political standpoint, so I haven't looked at it as a waste of money since I got it a while ago.

having a valid id to board an airplane is completely reasonable.... why are people making a stink about this again?

That’s not true. You can still fly you just need a passport.

Of course, that’s assumed. There’s a lot of people that fly domestically in this country that don’t have a passport. It’s for those people that this conversation is relevant.
