Anya Taylor Joy & Jenna Ortega: what went wrong with ATJ?

Recommended Posts

So we all know how Jenna Ortega has become the new Netflix It Girl following her smash hit series Wednesday.

I couldn’t help but think about the previous It Girl Anya Taylor Joy. Despite connecting well with audiences post Queens Gambit she’s failed to truly establish herself with consumers. She’s had flop after flop after flop. The last night in soho, The Northman, Amsterdam, maybe even her new film The Menu… she is clearly not a star. The only smart post QG move she made was sign up for tons of projects fresh off the hype. I doubt she’d have got these high profile projects now with her terrible box office run.

and before we say ATJ is fine, sure she is, but even ATRLs fave Grace  calls out the Dior muse’s floppage in her recent movie math TWICE - 09:11 and 16:47.

why did Anya fail to connect?

what can Jenna and future actress who smash on streaming do to avoid ATJs disappointing post-QG career?

and how do you think ATJ will turn her career around… if she even can?

Talking box office success, she’s easily one of the best young actresses technique wise

Both are remarkably talented, no need for a comparison like this

Nothing's wrong with her. I loved The Northman, Last Night in Soho and The Menu, not to mention I watched the latter just because of her.

It’s simply just that Wednesday is a show that appeals to young audiences

Young Audiences = massive fanbase

Jenna’s personality is more marketable to Gen Z too

y'all really blame a movie for bombing on ATJ when there are so many other variables (e.g., critics reviews, promotion, story, art style) that influence box office numbers :rip:

Was it good? I’m debating whether to go or wait til it’s streaming.

But how  she can keep that fan base is the question… Anya struggled so she might too

Anya is also from a billionaire family so she likely doesn’t care about being a box office star and it’s probably just a hobby to her

Anya is an actress.

Anya Taylor Joy is Princess Peach and the lead role in Mad Max 2 coming up. Jenna Ortega has Scream 6 coming up. I think Anya's just fine.

Both far from Jodie Comer :alexz2:

it's not like there are other movies she could've been in that did any better, literally everything is flopping across the board :toofunny3:

Anya Taylor Joy serves quality. Queen’s gambit is one of the best limited series of all time. Also, ATJ is actually a blockbuster actor.

Wednesday is a cringe fest made for edgy zoomers that will be forgotten in a few weeks. Also, in what else does Jenna Ortega appear? Scream, X? Either trash franchises or indie horror movies that only gays care about.

jenna just blew up, how can you be so sure that she’s not going “flop” like anya? :rip:

ATJ will always have her amazing role in The Witch and the incredible Queen's Gambit so she will always win :clap3:

ATJ will have a longer career with more acclaim lol. and she has done a lot more and has a very versatile look while jenna will look like a cute 15 year old for a long time. Jenna is lucky she got cast in that teen netflix show that's smashin.

This comparison doesn't even make sense :rip: Jenna hasn't had any projects post-Wednesday, so we'll see how well she does in the future.

Also, being fair to Anya, Last Night in Soho opened at the height of Covid when numbers where still very low, and The Northman was never going to be profitable.

anya is doing very well with the menu?

The Menu is doing pretty ok

Comprehension skills sis :rip: I said what can she do to not flop in the box office, not that she has or hasn’t flopped
