I often see people here talking about 18 year olds being preyed on. What about 18 year olds preying on gullible fat old gay men in their 40s and 50s with a low self esteem? Can an 18 year old knowingly take advantage of an insecure older man or woman?

I think when people say "young people being taken advantage of" they mean stuff like grooming which can usually only happen to children and young adults. I guess an older person can be groomed if they are vulnerable in some other way, grooming is taking advantage of someone's vulnerability to create an abusive relationship. 

 

More generally anyone can take advantage of anyone. It's just far easier for it to be done to someone young and or vulnerable.

Disadvantages aren't always material, so yes an 18yr old can take advantage of someone older.

Yes, but it's different. An 18-year-old does not have the life experience and wisdom someone in their 40s and 50s would have. An 18-year-old is thinking of just themselves, and it would be highly unlikely for an 18-year-old to know the full consequences of their actions. Even if an 18-year-old is using older men for money or other resources, they are solely thinking about taking advantage of older men for their own personal benefit/gain. They haven't lived and have not truly had life and/or rich dating experiences to truly know the consequences of their actions.

You technically can take advantage of literally everybody if you want to. But if an 18 year old is dating an unfortunate looking 50 year old they are probably doing it for the money, but I can't say that is "taking advantage" of them.
