Brooklyn Baby Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 As far as who has had more impact on artists in general and who has inspired generations that came after them in the music industry, who is it who has had more impact? Adele or Lana Del Rey?
GlamSlam Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 What the hell is this comparison? It's obviously Adele.
RideOrDie Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 lana. she created an entire sub genre of music. adele sells more and has bigger widestream appeal but no one comes out and says yeah i was influenced by adele to sing and make this type of music... no one's "copying" adele...
MingYouToo Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) Adele is the poster girl for ballads and 'serious' music by Boomers and older generations. But that's all she is, she is not inspiring new generations of artists to be like her because she is the exception to the rule. Sam Smith floundered with his ballads and eventually even had to go dance pop and smash. Lana del Rey, for all her relative commercial floppery, is an absolute cultural behemoth amongst fellow musicians. She has influenced everyone from Taylor Swift, Halsey, Lorde, Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, Olivia Rodrigo. 1. Her singing style. Before Halsey butchered it into the avoecaedoes style of singing, Lana's breathy whisper pop has been the blueprint of pop music since Rihanna's departure from her radio dominance. 2. Her brand of lo fi hip hop/pop. Lana, with BTD and Ultraviolence, created a very unique genre of pop music that melded strong hip hop and trap beats with a very serene almost depressing way of vocal delivery, and its very clear in its manifestations with Billie Eilish. Lana walked so Billie could run and I will not have anyone fight me over this. Her abuse of 808s, bass and synthesizers is very hip hop-ish and yet her vocal delivery is very 1950s, its very old school take on a modern beat. 3. Tumblr. Yes, Lana is the queen of tumblr aesthetics. The suicidal but still beautiful and sexy depressed maniac aesthetic she used to parade around the Summertime Sadness era has plagued millenials for years and still bleeds on to this day. Lana allowed for sadness and being depressed to become a commercial point of exploitation (not blaming her but she opened musicians to this aesthetic/branding) Taylor Swift's brand of pop as she herself admitted, is derivative of Lana's pop sensibilities and its very clear. Lana del Rey is inarguably the most influential figure in shaping (note, SHAPING) pop music as we know it today. Edited December 11, 2022 by MingYouToo
Pacify Him Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Lana. She birthed her male alter ego: Cigarettes After Sex

Care to elaborate? I really can't think of anyone else other than Lauren Diagle and Freya Ridings that were influenced by Adele musically. Lana on the other hand is 100x more impactful I fear.
FunCoric Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 stan twitter: lana real life: adele lana is literally a one album wonder

Nebur Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Adele obviously... I adore Lana I'm a fan of her since her first album but no one in real life has heard her name in my country or group of friends or knows a song by her Also those who say that certain artists were influenced by Lana... but let's remember that Adele is much bigger and more global than Lana, what happens is that not everyone has the voice to be influenced by ADELE However, there are many new singers on singing programs such as the x factor, the voices, I do sing, etc. who were influenced by ADELE, however, Atrl says Lana because apart from the fact that they hate Adele,
State of Grace. Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Literally most of the "singers" nowadays cite Mariah Carey, Céline Dion, Whitney Houston, etc as their primary influences. I can't remember a single artist that is out here naming Adele and her ballads/HAC music as their main inspitation. Adele has always positioned herself as an anti-big pop star. 21 stood out and smashed in an era of Gaga/Katy/Kesha/Rihanna and 25 was coming after the Big Pop Era 1989 and Taylor's mega domination. It stops there and she didn't really lay the groundwork for any other artists after her. Yall can keep using sales all you want but they have absolutely nothing to do with impact. Lana's voice, sound, aesthetic have inspired several singers, producers, photographers, cinematographers, music video directors, you name it. She paved the way for a whole new generation of female artists (Billie Eilish, Halsey, Lorde, and many more) and influenced several already huge pop forces like Taylor Swift. Born To Die alone became the blueprint for pop melancholia and its impact still lives on.
vale9001 Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) The title thread is about impact and everyone is talking about charts Of course is Lana. She's the most influental pop artist of the last decade. You can see now even more than 10 years ago. Edited December 11, 2022 by vale9001
Abracadabra Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Lana has had more impact in the music and aesthetics of the artists who came after her, but Adele has more impact with the GP and commercially
gustavothehuman Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Adele doesn't really have anything going on for her other than sales, Lana is much more influential.
Jay07 Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Adele is more popular with the soccer moms but Lana has a more distinctive and unique artistic identity that resonates with audiences and fellow artists alike.
John Slayne Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Lana and it's not even close people here saying 'Adele is more popular with boomers and soccer moms' but that's not the question? we all know Adele sold more, we're discussing impact and influence on pop music. Lana is infinitely more influential in that regard, almost every current pop girl from Billie Eilish to Taylor Swift cites her as an influence and you can literally hear her impact in many songs on the radio. nobody is really doing Adele-style ballads, but everyone is using Lana-print in their production, vocal delivery, and songwriting style
GentleDance Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Only OLH are out there saying it's Adele, don't bother
chaklux Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Majority of the people in atrl are swifties and they will vote against anything that involves Adele. Adele has far more impact than Lana. Any other opinion is pure delusion.
