MP2K Posted December 31, 2022 Author Posted December 31, 2022 33. Hatchie – Lights On Favorite Bit: the post-chorus 32. Beyoncé – VIRGO’S GROOVE Vocal performance of the year. This was a complete journey, and you feel every emotion as Bey shares her wants for physical touch and closeness of her man. This is lusty, sensual, and of course groovy. Favorite Bit: the vocal runs on the bridge 31. Harry Styles - Late Night Talking Favorite Bit: “Now you're in my life / I can't get you off my mind”
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted January 1, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted January 1, 2023 Million Dollar Baby, Pure/Honey, Late Night Talking Virgo's Groove Lights On a ******* masterpiece
potent Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Softly is an underrated song imo. Maybe not as good as Eugene/Caroline/Hope but still really good and cute. Pure Honey yes a bop Tonight Love to see that song getting some appreciation, it would probably be in my top 10 Lights On LNT is cute too although kinda too generic for me to listen on repeat.
Remmy Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Late Night Talking is a good one Summertime YESSS Lights On a ******* masterpiece [2] ... VIRGO'S GROOVE mmm PURE/HONEY is so amazing and truly made for the gays. 3 Charli songs in these past few sets New Shapes grew on me, Twice is a solid album closer, Baby is one of my favorites on CRASH
MP2K Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 30. Beyoncé – BREAK MY SOUL I have a love-hate relationship with this song, it fluctuated a lot when I was compiling my list even. This is the safest spot. I was fearful of the Renaissance era because of the unknown of the direction and this sound was so foreign to Bey that I didn't know if she pulled it off. It wasn’t until I got the full product, I started to truly appreciate the song knowing what it was attached to sonically and what Renaissance really means. It works so much when you listen to the album in full, no skips. This is an undeniable bop with a message that IS song of the year. Favorite bit: Big Freedia! 29. Sabrina Carpenter - Fast Times Favorite bit: Sabrina’s tone throughout the song 28. Doechii – Crazy One of Azealia’s sons. This was totally unexpected following her breakout single “Persuasive,” this is a rap screamo track with slick impressive bars over a slow turned fast paced beat that could be apart of Blaxploitation films. Favorite bit: “It's a brand new day, new pace, light joggin' / Straight facts, no jargon / It's a whole lot of big blue checks, no login” 27. Beyoncé – HEATED Favorite bit: “I gotta fan myself off” + “Only a real one could tame me / Only the radio could play me” https://imgur.com/d6dad85a-5b43-45a1-aca9-c029fcd2210c 26. Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart [PNAU Remix] Favorite bit: Dua, duh!
MP2K Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 25. The Weeknd – Sacrifice To me, Dawn FM wasn’t full of hits like Starboy and After Hours. “Sacrifice” is one of few. It’s a spooky yet infectious display of perfect pop with ‘80s Michael Jackson nostalgia. The same formula, same song he’s BEEN doing… but we ain’t complaining. Favorite bit: the funky guitar 24. Burna Boy – Last Last Despite the fact that the Nigerian superstar is singing about heartbreak, this sounds like a summer weeding song thanks to the Toni Braxton sample over a breezy instrumental. I still had so much fun singing along with my friends as if this man wasn’t hurting. Favorite bit: “I need Igbo and shayo (Shayo)” 23. Bad Bunny - Tití Me Preguntó As you can see, I love a song that has a different meaning to its sonic feel. Bad Bunny disregards because he can’t fall in love and reflects on his trust issues but over a laser sharp beat. This goes off in the clubs! Favorite bit: the electric guitar riffs + hip-hop outro 22. Beyoncé – MOVE (feat. Grace Jones & Tems) I blink and next thing you know this becomes one of my most played tracks from Renaissance. “Move” was a change of pace from the experimental and groovy ballads of its preceding tracks. It takes us back to her “Black is King” era with production fuses afrobeats, hip-house, and dancehall. The song features the icon Grace Jones and Tems who have their great touches but it’s Bey being the centerpiece with her unintentionally comedic moments, like the chant-like chorus and her shouting over Grace off key. It’s fun and energetic but there’s something eerie about the second half of this song as production starts to mellow out. Can’t put my finger on it but there’s a sudden shift in mood, that I still love. Favorite bit: the bridge 21. FKA twigs - meta angel Favorite bit: the beat drop after “I need a meta angel”
MP2K Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 20. Maggie Rogers - That's Where I Am Favorite bit: stuttering electronica intro + the first chorus that leads to the explosive instrumental 19. Joji - Glimpse of Us The more this former prankster releases music, the more serious his music gets, the more I take him seriously! This is some James Blake level ****! One of the most emotional pieces of 2022 that pushed my wig back. Favorite bit: the harmonies on the chorus 18. Steve Lacy – Bad Habit Favorite bit: the addictive chorus ofc 17. Wet Leg – Angelica Wet Leg is all about trippy guitar-driven arrangements and roasting people that annoy the **** out of you with their song writing. Who’s getting dragged now? “Angelica” who represents socialites and clout chasers. Top it with shimmery production and the duo does what they do best, delivering a cunning track. Favorite bit: sunny guitar riff 16. Nilüfer Yanya - the dealer While everyone replayed singles like “Stabilise,” "midnight sun" and "anotherlife," this one was the one for me! It’s an emotional journey you never asked for because the song never lets you breathes from its aggressive guitar. I want all the smoke Nilüfer is serving. Favorite bit: the guitar instrumental breakdown towards the end
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Plan B, PURE/HONEY, Lights On, VIRGO’S GROOVE, BREAK MY SOUL, Sacrifice, Tití Me Preguntó & That's Where I Am are all bops

Remmy Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Cold Heart (Remix) is pretty cute. Only heard Angelica once & enjoyed ha, still need to download it. Fast Times mmm a grower Bad Habit + Sacrifice That's Where I Am yesssss she snapped, such a great way to start the era. Even more Bey in here BREAK MY SOUL, HEATED, MOVE are all bops of course. Well, pretty much the whole album is.

Conscious type rap can be a little bland outside of a few rappers but with bars like this she's really one of the best.
MP2K Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 15. Lizzo - About Damn Time It’s the way I didn’t want to like this or see it succeed. I was such a hater at first. Now look at this, “About Damn Time” is Lizzo at her absolute finest. This is such fun, flirty and self-loving anthem. Just when I want this sound to die down, just when I want Lizzo to kind of go away, she delivers one of my favorite songs of the year. Favorite Bit: “I got a feelin' I'm gon' be alright” and the piano key that follows the lyric 14. FLO – Immature “Immature” is the more dramatic follow-up to “Cardboard Box.” It’s about being strong and confident in yourself and not putting up with anyone that can’t handle adult communication. With its slick metallic production, and a dash of a baby cry soundbite, you would think it was produced by Timbaland, crafted for Brandy or Aaliyah. Their voices are so distinct, and they really play around with their vocal techniques and the way they blend. What was once a hard-hitting beat then transforms into a distorted/robotic section and then closes with an ethereal instrumental carried by an acoustic guitar and the best harmonies I’ve heard since the ‘00s. SICK SH*T! Favorite Bit: the harmonies and instrumental shifts on the outro 13. Beyoncé – ALIEN SUPERSTAR Before we even knew what “PURE/HONEY” sounded like we get “ALIEN SUPERSTAR” first which also pays homage to ballroom and accomplishes what the art form does best: high-drama, high fashion, uber confidence, and bizarre fantasy! This is also one of her most experimental and quotable tracks yet. Favorite Bit: the 2nd verse + “whip, whip!”
