MP2K Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) Welcome! Last year, I was a bit dramatic and thought I was done with 'Best of' but somehow I've built some motivation to stay committed. Work and life has been kicking my ******* ass all year - I'm sure you all can relate. This is tedious work to do but it's one of those traditions on this ran down board that still brings me join. So let's go! Music is 2022: I'm not saying she will be number one, but I'm saying Beyoncé ruined music by putting narcotics in that damn album. There was nothing leading up to and after this release that has kept me glued to a project. There's so many folx I haven't gotten to. So for this countdown I'm literally STRETCHING, REACHING, anything I can find. I'm talking 3 play counts are about to make my top 20 and I'm gonna have to sabotage some Rena' tracks to be fair. Fun. Top 200 Songs Top Albums Worst of the Year Your Picks - As I am checking out your countdowns daily, I will be sharing which new discoveries I will be playlisting. Top '23 Rising - As 2022 is closing out I'll be sharing the top 23 late bloomers and new discoveries in real time that didn't make the cut but have a shot in 2023 (because I literally have no real tracking period). MP2K Posted December 11, 2022 Author Posted December 11, 2022 Future & Gunna - pushin P (feat. Young Thug) This just sucks all around, the rapping and structure is off, sounds unfinished and empty. This was somehow one of the best rap songs of the year? Welp, enjoy the jail time Kings. GAYLE - abcdefu Cardi B - Hot **** (feat. Kanye West & Lil Durk) Why didn't you drop the album after "Up"? You ruined your momentum. Nicki Minaj - Super Freaky Girl You ain't off the hook either. We've heard this already. I'm tired. Machine Gun Kelly - emo girl (feat. WILLOW) Ed Sheeran - Shivers Kim Petras - Throat Goat **** Pop needed a title like this, just being on brand alone, but it got too corny with its chorus and effects. Chris Brown - Iffy y DJ Khaled - Staying Alive It's DJ Khaled. I don't mean this is his producer tag form. I'm being literal. Leah Kate - 10 Things I Hate About You Sam Smith & Kim Petras - Unholy This was supposed to be monumental.. and just good. This sounds like a dated 00s R&B track that didn't even make the Limewire charts but in 2022 it blew? David Guetta & Bebe Rexha - I'm Good (Blue) Bree Runway - Pressure Ice Spice - Munch (Feelin U) & Bikini Bottom She's from my city, and I get the appeal and I understand the WHY behind it. But no... Khalid - Satellite Meghan Trainor - Made You Look Why is she still around? And doing the same kid bopz tunes? Adele - Easy On Me Giveon's Singles Run Jack Harlow - First Class (and pretty much his Singles Run) A very lazy sample, bad and boring chorus, mediocre rapping. Lil Pump - Mona Lisa DaBaby's Singles Run Just stop and disapear for a little or forever. I don't care either way. Camila Cabello - Bam Bam (feat. Ed Sheeran) A squeaking kettle over a washing machine. Nicki Minaj - Bussin SZA - S.O.S. I'm extremely disappointed how poorly sequenced this album is and that you have to cherry pick and force yourself to like. She played us forreal. Ed Sheeran - The Joker and the Queen (feat. Taylor Swift) Imagine Dragons - Enemy (feat. JID & League of Legends) Drake's Singles Run Not a single song has done it for me. Drake - Honestly, Nevermind Honestly, Drake in general this year besides "Heated"
JGibson Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Agree with Drake + Lil Pump + Nicki + Cardi + Chris Brown being on the worsts. My favorite songs I like from this list: abcdefu + Enemy + Easy On Me + The Joker and The Queen + 10 Things I Hate About You + Shivers + emo girl
Remmy Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Pushin P, abcdefu, Hot Sh*t, emo girl, Throat Goat, Bam Bam, anything Drake... all very deserved for this list!!! Nicki has definitely been going downhill but I'm not mad at SFG & Bussin. Shivers, Unholy, Made You Look, The Joker and the Queen, Enemy, Pressure, Satellite aren't great but I can tolerate them. Easy On Me is the only one on here that I'd say 100% shouldn't be here Ready to see what's on the other lists
Wicked Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) Your worst list is on point. Lmfao, I didn't like SOS either As a fellow New Yorker you wanna root for Ice Spice but Munch isn't good, I felt bad about not liking it lmfao. I don't listen to Drake at this point because everything is too predictable and bad, not surprised Honestly Nevermind made it here. I feel like Jack Harlow is what you get when you take Drakeisms and remove what makes them apart of Drake's identity. Jack Harlow is basically Rap Muzak to me. Rap elevator music. Can't wait to see the rest. Edited December 11, 2022 by Wicked
TheWayWeWere Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 I still can't believe Cardi serving Sky Ferreira/SZA realness with her second album only with bad singles now Emo Girl was cutie y'all gonna drag me for Bam Bam top 100 placement not SOS I still haven't listened to it, but now I'm worried **** Pop is probably one of the worst thing I ever listened
TrueBlood Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 A bit said about a few tracks I really like here among the worst ones (Kim Petras, Nicki Minaj, Bree Runway). Totally agree about Drake and Cardi B tho.
Polgg48 Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 imo khalid isnt that bad but the rest is unpleasant and smell
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Unholy, Made You Look & First Class dragging I really don't get these song's appeal like-
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 11, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted December 11, 2022 Oop, I like a few of these songs, but the only ones worth defense really are Bussin & Unholy (maybe Ice Spice too). Hot Shit was a joke tbh, not in that its really bad but in that it's one of the biggest "thats it?!" moments of the year. I disagree Unholy sounds like late 00s R&B, to me, it sounds like a Rebel Heart demo (compliment).
TRF. Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 honestly seeing myself agreeing with a lot of this list... EXCEPT Ice Spice and SZA (though I do kinda agree the sequencing is a bit questionable)
MP2K Posted December 12, 2022 Author Posted December 12, 2022 Some Commentary - I do not know how to properly use the quote option still @Remmy It was a desperate move for Nicki, it worked, but what will it do for the album. I didn't like Bussin but I think the first two singles were still the route to build some momentum. Oh, and Adele was too formulaic/predictable (I'm sure this is always said). "Oh My God" and "My Little Love" do it for me though. @Wicked Agree with everything you said, especially the Drake and Jack bit. Don't get me wrong, I was a What's Poppin' fan and had an ounce of hope but naw. @TheWayWeWere SOS is still worth a listen, there's some gems on there but a good -7 tracks would bump it a few pegs for me. I don't want to discourage you lol. @Polgg48 I think it's the cringe video that did it for me. Just stiff and threw me off so it turned me off altogether. @madonnas wait are you talking Madonna's Rebel Heart? I don't really hear that Thanks everyone else. Now... onto my basic/generic Albums list... RENAISSANCE Beyoncé Going to be honest, "Break My Soul" had me concerned about Bey's direction and if she still had it in her. Renaissance proved a clear transition from the serious topics of her previous works to celebration and joy through disco, house, afrobeats and funk sounds and it all comes off intentional. A great album should also flow and transition well and have no skips - nailed it. She has nothing else to prove, she's executed it all and made a defining musical statement in her 40s. She made it hard for me to get to more albums on my queue still. THE LEAD FLO A breath of fresh air. Flo has truly set a new standard to how girl groups should sound like and how skilled, blended and balanced they should be in this new age. While there are clear 90's and 00's R&B influences, I can never really agree with others on the WHO and WHAT they may be influenced by but all that matters is that it's refreshing without sounding dated. All tracks production are so crisp and showcases pure talent. CAPRISONGS FKA Twigs This is how you dip your toes into mainstream with your "sellout" album without having the hottest pop and hip-hop producers in the game. The theme this year seems to be "Joy despite your circumstances." There's still a splash of sonic weirdness we know and love, but it's a remarkable change of pace for her. At times less serious, less pretentious, more playfulness, still empowering messages. the others (in no particular order) CRASH Charli XCX MR. MORALE & THE BIG STEPPERS Kendrick Lamar HYPNOS Ravyn Lenae WASTELAND Brent Faiyaz MUNA Muna CANDYDRIP Lucky Daye UN VERANO SIN TI Bad Bunny THE FOREVER STORY JID HARRY'S HOUSE Harry Styles PAINLESS Nilüfer Yanya DIRT FEMME Tove Lo BAD INFLUENCE Ojerime WET LEG Wet Leg SMITHEREENS Joji
MP2K Posted December 12, 2022 Author Posted December 12, 2022 1. Sabrina Carpenter - nonsense What an ear-worm. We missed Ari this year, this filled the gap a little bit? I hate to force a comparison but that's what caught my attention. Unfortunately, I discovered it too late, so maybe as it continues to grow it'll be on my chart next year. You will see another appearance by Sabrina instead though. 2. PinkPantheress - Boy's a Liar We know her songs help stimulate our short attention spans. "Boy's a Liar" is no different, cute drums and beats groove with a sad message and has a bump to it. She's on the journey to crafting standard songs and hits.
TalkThatRihanna Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Not SOS being on the Worst Of list But yes at the FLO stanning That EP is perfection. Nonsense is by far the best on that Sabrina project. An Ari “reject” done RIGHT
Sanguine Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Lmaoo I love Throat Goat and Ten Things ngl, but I understand the reasoning for everything there Love much of your albums Renaissance obviously amazing, FLO too. Caprisongs was a step down for her but had some great tracks. Painless, Hypnos and Wet Leg from the others list
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 All the top albums/eps are all so good Also nonsense acclaim
TheWayWeWere Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Caprisongs and Renaissance one of my favorites this year as well I need to listen FLO asap tbh Crash and MUNA getting some love
Wicked Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Honestly, I took you for a Steve Lacy fan, expected Gemini Rights here.
ARTPØP Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Glad to see Dirt Femme getting a little love on your list
BlackoutZone Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 I was ready to agree with the worst picks, but damn SZA and Ice Spice Both ate like.. they gonna click for you eventually idk But the Best projects list is great so I ain't dragging, FLO are indeed a breath of fresh air and I wish them the best

I just never finished sadly so it wouldn't be fair to rank, same with Omar! But their singles will make appearances. Edited December 13, 2022 by MP2K
