They also probably know Gen Z has totally turned on republicans and they are done ever having a trifecta in the us Government again. Hell them holding the house this last time might be the end for them. They’re getting desperate. Trump ruined their party, moderate, young people and independents are turning away in droves. They know it’s over until they raise the voting age or cut off young people communicating with each other.
HeavyMetalAura Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 given the mental health issues numerous studies have correlated with social media, and how it hasn't been around long enough to know the effects on a developing mind (even though early research suggests its very bad), I support this. Can't believe I agree with Texas Republicans on something. Blah blah blah it'll be difficult to enforce. It's also illegal for young people to do drugs, drink, etc and while it's not completely enforceable it is at least a deterrent.

No cyberbullying, higher confidence because they won't always be comparing themselves to others, they wouldn't be ruining their lives by saying racist/homophobic things because they're too dumb to know better, and also a safety factor because sexual predators wouldn't be able to contact them. But in other ways it would be bad. It would be much harder for socially awkward/outcast kids to find friends who are into the same stuff they are and for kids with unhappy lives who use it as a form of escapism and to vent their feelings.
byzantium Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 What annoys me about this is that the US has already built a physical world where kids are stuck in their homes with very little agency. In the US you really cannot engage in society, go to parks, see friends, go to stores, go to movies etc without a car. Thus Social media is the only place left for kids to interact with each other. I feel like some adults would not be happy until every child is locked in a box away from the world unti they turn 18. Obviously there should be some restrictions and protections…but this is a little extreme .
