GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 31, 2022 Author Posted December 31, 2022 Andddd im back! I realize we have until January 8th to finish this but i wonder if anyone will still care after 11:59 pm tonight! Either way here is another splurge GreatestLoveofAll: 2022 Countdown 34. As It Was- Harry Styles When this first came out I was very much a huge fan of the song for the most part and I think it was just the perfect pop song for the time. Now fast forward some 8 months and its everywhere and like so many of the evergreen hits of the last three years, shows no sign of really going away. Glad Harry had this moment to really stand shoulder to shoulder with the massive solo stars he debuted alongside back in 2010 and whats more, this isnt even the last time you'll see him on this list (or even this post!) 33. Glimpse of Us- Joji I dont really think i care for Joji. Nor do I care for how he rose to fame. Nor do I like the typical music he makes and frankly, this song lyrical and thematically really irks me, though that really has more to do with my own morals and shifty feelings on relationships. What I do appreciate is excellent balladry and harmony. I wish my generation wasnt so dramatic and wallowing in self pity or finding glee in self-destruction, but honest is something I greatly respect in lyrics and thats what carries this song in my top 40. 32. Forget Me- Lewis Capaldi I was surprised this didnt make more noise on the western side of the Atlantic, but it does slightly veer from his heart-wrenching ballads though he covers much of the ground he has before. I liked it a lot though and found myself shamelessly letting it play even when I dont intend to. 31. Cinema- Harry Styles There are four albums released this year that have at least two entries on my list this year and this is the first. Harry's House was a solid album that aged well, both is funkier, uptempo songs and softer tunes- though I lean towards the ones with a bit of a kick to them as you guys can see. Cinema is really the best Harry has sounded vocally to me and I do hope he doesnt completely phase this sound out with his next album... unless of course I over play it. 30. Material Gworlll- Saucy Santana and Madonna (Remix) Idc, idc, idc I loved this remix and wish it was longer. Perfect for the vibes both of them are/were reflecting in their original recordings and I found myself listening to this one more than Santana's original. 29. Plan B- Megan Thee Stallion I remember looking at someone's year-end thread and saw this song and said wow I wish I had put this instead of "her" thinking I had only allotted one song to Megan. Then I realized as I was reviewing the songs I had left that it was on the list and so I am very proud that when I originally compiled all of this, that this was on it. Its my favorite Megan solo song for sure and she is so brazen but not in a way that can be seen as sexualizing or even an aggressive way, but to show how she is confident enough to leave a man who isnt up to her standards and who can't offer her much and while there is more to unpack, I think that alone is very much the best of Megan's skill and the year she has had in a way. 28. Hold My Hand- Lady Gaga It just to show that even when its not her best, Gaga is too talented to fail in my book. "Hold My Hand" is pretty basic and doesn't offer in production or its very bland lyrics, but gosh, she SINGS here. Even in the verses, she cradles the worlds like they were babies- it reminds me of her singing of bop of the summer of 2017 "The Cure". 27. Starwalkin'- Lil Nas X I was a few weeks late on this song I think, but I definitely think this is top tier among Nas songs (and another year with good output from his cause his BET protest song was a little too comedic for me). I really feel that the lyrics not alone work for the product the support, but apply to Nas himself and it makes it all more heartfelt. GreatestLoveofAll's 2022 Discoveries Amor Prohibido- Selena One of my fave songs like ever, not even just of this year. How this escaped me before I have no clue but I discovered a whooooole bunch of Selena songs this year and this one captivated me the most- to the point where I want to learn Spanish just to sing it. Como la Flor- Selena I really love this song and when i looked up the meaning and lyrics, I was floored. I'm not familiar with music of this background, but when they get me hooked, I be hookedddd. Get Here- Oleta Adams Howwwww this grand ballad from the dawn of the 90s escaped me (there is always one out there waiting for me to discover and I love ittt) I have no idea. Oleta’s voice has a dramatic weight of a stage performer or opera singer and it is matched by the sweeping, Celine Dion and Michael Bolton-esque production. Simply my kind of music and definitely a great song overall. Tender Love- Force MDs I wonder how many people would know this song? I heard it in this movie called Beauty, which was basically an unauthorized, discreetly marketed Netflix movie on Whitney Houston’s early days. I loved the soft, gentle harmonies and honestly thought it was a early 70s jam until I did some research. Summer of 2022 was amazing with this song. Oh Girl- The Chi-Lites Heard this at a medical office lmao but im a sucker for old soul music sometimes so I had to put y’all on. The harmonica reminds me a lot of the one used in the Disney movie, Fox and the Hound if anyone is familiar. Magic- Olivia Newton-John I hadnt known any Olivia songs really beside “Physical” before she died and so after, I decided to skim through her GH albums and see what made her such a star and inspiration for so many growing up in the 70s and 80s. “Magic” is a great song with an interesting melody, encouraging feel and words and really feels like no one could have interpreted it better than Olivia herself.

GreatestLoveofAll Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 I really should get this all out by Thursday cause im not even the top 20 yet so without anymore laziness, here is another list! GreatestLoveofAll: 2022 Countdown 26. I'm That Girl- Beyonce I knowwww you guys have been waiting for Miss Knowles-Carter to make her debut- to finally make it on this list. Even having her this low on a song this good is a little eye twitching, but I had to be political and say if she was gonna occupy so much space then she cant be all over the top tier. Thus why the first of the Renaissance tracks that made the mark for the album (which still excludes several) appears at 26. I knew this was going to be 2022's most riveting release from the megastar crowd the moment "these mfs aint stopping me" echoed through my earbuds. She's confident as always here, but the way she reverts back to herself being the true reason for her stardom and career and not all the added mythology and lore that surrounds and supports her is just a testament once again to her greatness. 25. Lavender Haze- Taylor Swift Not sure anytime where I have ranked Beyonce and Taylor so close on a list before, but first time for everything. Midnights as a whole is not really my cup of tea- it isnt catchy in the subtle way folklore was or as pop friendly as Lover but "Lavender Haze" as a song? oh it getsssss it. It was my favorite offering from the album's early days and the thumping chorus is just a vibe all around. 24. I'm Good (Blue)- Bebe Rexha and David Guetta I was told this is a terrible example of dance/EDM music in 2022 and I can sort of see why, but im not gonna sit here and act like I know what is "good" examples of it nor am I going to pretend I dont love the energy and production of the song. A careless, free and reinvigorating track is never going to be lost on me when the time is right. 23. House on Fire- Mimi Webb I saw a thread on here of people loving this song and wishing it could keep rising. It didnt break records or do much in reality, but if this had come out between 2009 and 2013, there is no doubt it would raise Mimi's profile signifcantly. Its a fun song to listen to and while revenge is kind of well threaded and this song covers no new ground whatsoever, I never get the sense that its boring. Also its like 2 minutes long barely so no way for that. 22. 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)- Lizzo The music video makes little sense in correlation with the song but that probably remains my only real critic. I mellowed out on my stanning of it since it came out, but I still find "2 Be Loved" one of the best pop bangers to come out this year. As simple as it is, its really heartfelt how open Lizzo is about her insecurites and how in tune she is with how she feels and in turn how millions of people feel. I wish she could have even more success with this song because she really spoke something there. This whole album is a vibe and if Lizzo isnt your thing then fine, but if you even did a little head bop to this song, then the whole album is worth your time imo. 21. Daydreamin'- Harry Styles On an album full of impressive numbers, for "Daydreamin'" to be such a clear winner for me is rare. it almost wasnt in my most recent assessment of the album, but I have never shied away from funk/rock Harry and it exudes the same dazzling energy "Treat People with Kindness" from Fine Line does. I was rooting for it to get single treatment and since pop radio will eat anything connected to this man's name, I hope they give it a shot. 20. The Church I Grew Up In (Live)- Tasha Cobbs- Leonard Everyone who reads anything I post about music here knows or can very easily guess how I feel about gospel music. As someone raised in the church, it can be a tough experience, one that isnt worth the stress of being part of especially when faith is often something so personal. I wont get into it because it would take too long and no one really cares much for gospel here, but there is a sort of conviction in this song that I guarantee you will find nowhere else in the world of non-classic music. And she isn't even doing her usual heavy lifting here! 19. Vegas- Doja Cat Switching to a whole new genre, Doja Cat constantly shows us why she is such a generation-defining, genre-defying act. The mastery of her flow on the verses, the way she slips into singing on the chorus and all may seem common practice now, but I dont think i'll ever get sick of hearing her do it. Hoping this wins her another Grammy in February. 18. Turn Up the Sunshine (PNAU Remix)- Tame Impala and Diana Ross I immediately saw that PNAU had a hand in this remix and flew to it- so much so that I didnt even give the original a listen yet. But after seeing how he handled "Cold Heart" I was quick to see what he had and I was not disappointed. I love the positivity it brings and that fact that Diana is still making bangers nearly 60 years after she first graced the ears of American is truly a testament to her as a person and the icon she has been for generations. My summer was filled with songs like this. 17. Church Girl- Beyonce Seeing that I already alluded to the struggles of church (especially for black people), it really was not surprising to me that the image of a young woman whon is faced with such expectations and burdened by generational shame and guilt as many black girls are finally letting herself be free and letting loose, being carefree for once and having nothing in her way even for just one night is so inspiring and familiar to the point I had to remind myself how does someone so rich and powerful now know of such a feeling. Renaissance top 5 for sure, no debate. 16. Blick Blick- Coi Leray (w/ Nicki Minaj) I used to listen to this like five times a day at some point- I was pretty low on music choices so that was part of the reason, but also cause its just catchy. Coi shows growth in her confidence as she should, while Nicki is a moldable as ever, yet still very much the same, stepping into someone's song not to change the melody, but to offer her own twist on it. and in the while, you get reminded why she is who she is. GreatestLoveofAll's 2022 Discoveries Have You Never Been Mellow Olivia Newton-John- such a sweet song, but when i realized it was a number one hit I was truly astonished- I didnt think adult contemporary had much of a place on popular radio back then. Either way though, glad it did so well and the light, supple and sugary voice that made Olivia a star in her 1971 debut would be upped to a max here. Wait a Minute!- WILLOW I was actually coming back from a hookup when the person I was with played this song. Im not a huge fan of the alternative scene and so Willow very much has gone under my radar for the last like, six years besides the song that was a hit last year and her iconic “Whip My Hair” debut. Since then of course she has just grown into a music light on her own merits without the drama and fame of her family in the vicinity and honestly, tracks as full and mind tumbling are the reason she’s only going to get bigger and bigger. Easy- Troye Sivan I was kind of mad he wasnt releasing a full length project, so I ignored most of all the music from Troye since like 2019 nnnn but better late than never I suppose. “Easy” has the perfect makings of the tragic tumblr music that shaped Sivan’s music since his first EP now some 8-9 years ago- tragic story, deeply in love characters, and a desperation that can make for a full tv show. It works though, even as I roll my eyes at it, I cant help but sing along. Why I Love You So Much- Monica I got this from TikTok and while it was for laughs and giggles, I knew that the bridge that went viral had to be part of a song I’d appreciate. The maturity in her voice at 15???? Unparalleled to be so gifted and still have so much more to go in terms of developing- which she did in her subsequent releases. The way this song is a dedication but without being too rated r and not depressing also raises its appeal to me- if you havent heard 90s R&B this wouldnt be a bad place to start at all. Our Destiny- Hinda Hicks At one of the high schools in my area a highschooler and one of his family members died and it rippled throughout many of the social circles of my city. One of his friends posted this song as a tribute and its hopeful message still makes me cry even when I never knew this guy. Men In Black- Will Smith I had never seen the franchise though I knew it was, like many of Smith’s endeavors, massive and everywhere. It sucks Billboard didnt change the rules when this song was released cause it was a hit and one of my favorite 90s songs. The key changes are trippy too.

GreatestLoveofAll Posted January 5, 2023 Author Posted January 5, 2023 Extended to the 15th just as I was beginning to wrap it all up thats fine though! Today is 15-6 and tmr the long-awaited top five commences! Without further ado GreatestLoveofAll: 2022 Countdown 15. Alien Superstar- Beyonce Some say its time has passed, but I hold faith that should 2022's best album spawn a third single, "Alien Superstar" remains the strongest choice. Out of all the songs, from the very first robotic vocal to hit your ear to the musical and thematic journey you are taken on as Bey slips, runs, leaps through the song... it gives off the energy that you're in an action movie in this song and there were very few songs I heard this year that I was so immediately drawn to. 10/10 without a doubt. 14. Jigsaw- Conan Gray I'm not really a fan of the singer nor the musical sound (we have been over this), but the unrelenting passion and pain that Conan releases in this number is actually very impressive and drew me in after a few listens. The vagueness of the lyrics do kind of irk me, but in 2022, songs can take on any meaning you want. I didn't listen to the album, but now as I write this blurb up I'm thinking if I missed out on anymore "Jigsaw"s this year. 13. Boyfriend- Dove Cameron There is a horror aspect that I really dig in with this song. Its really a perfect song and I was so glad it became the success it did because pop songs with some weight and roof-clattering impact are very much needed in the slow jam, minimal pop that takes off on radio these days. Its just, I didnt expect that Dove Cameron of all people would end up on my 'best of' anything list. 12. Betty (Get Money)- Yung Gravy Quite literally a viral meme song, and I felt all types of guilty for letting this white man grab my attention with such a heteronormative song, but when a beat is good, a beat is goooood. Interloping Rick Astley's 80s classic and 2000s imperial meme of a song "Never Gonna Give You Up" over a trap beat and some clever lyrics, Gravy ended up being played as much as Beyonce this year and I'm not even made at it anymore. "Damn Gravy you so vicious" 11. Anti-Hero- Taylor Swift You know, I tried to resist it. I didnt want to like anything Taylor released with this new album cause frankly Im just sick of seeing her everywhere and her fanbase doesnt make it easier to deal with. Yet when the distinct echo of the drums began to roll and that earworm of a chorus began to rear it's head for about the fifth listen... I just got it. It will be a while before I get around to listening to Midnights in full tbh, but I can very well say that this is Taylor's most enjoyable song since "Delicate"- and it makes sense its her first real radio hit since it. It's been one of my most played songs since its release and I originally had it at #13 and was seriously debating on making it top 10, but I decided most of the top 10 has just been around for longer and deserve to get their shine. "Anti-Hero" is a top tier pop song however and I can see it staying on radio for a longggg time. 10. Super Freaky Girl- Nicki Minaj Seeing what the remix cover art is, the original one is a little lackluster, especially considering the song is about being freaky and dominant in both the bed and in your profession. Nicki is doing what she knows the best to do- play her lyrics around her own prowess and status in comparison to others, and for the first time in a long time, she seems to be having the most fun doing it. 2022 was already a solid musical year for the Queen of Rap, but when Pop Nicki returned? Oh it was cause for celebration and the GP responded accordingly. The sampling was done expertly as well, giving enough from Rick's iconic funk tune to be recognizable, but with Nicki's one-of-a-kind tone and flow to keep it firmly in 2022. Definitely solo Nicki at its best. 9. Made You Look- Meghan Trainor Ok, ok I did say songs released late in the year tend to be pushed lower on the list for me. Meghan will be the exception this year and for good reason. A perfect, cute, vocally gorgeous pop song with Meghan reminding us just how unchallenged she is in her lane. She's been putting out some stellar pop songs for several years now from "Treat Myself" to "Genetics", to "Run Like the River" but I'm glad she released the perfect song for the TikTok generation to mess with- even my friends and family who wouldn't care for Meghan like that love the song. Here's to hoping it takes off even more in 2023 cause Miss Trainor deserves. 8. F.N.F (Let's Go)- hitkidd, GloRilla Name me a better song to get lit to this year- yeah I really don't think you could. Like the City Girls and Saweetie in 2020, an audacious, fearless anthem about the independence and bad-bitchery of this song broke GloRilla through and with her distinctive voice and talent, I hope she keeps her traction and only continues to bring in the bops. 7. Bussin- Nicki Minaj ft. Lil Baby Easily my favorite rap song of the year, it really deserved "Do We Have A Problem?"'s peak. Nicki rides the beat with a sort of expertise and ease you'd think she was one of the forerunners of trap. Lil Baby is even good here and the sort of "my man my girl we the most invincible" vibe they put on is perfect- chemistry in that studio was top notch. It'll be on my repeat for a long time. 6. Best Days- Alessia Cara (w/ Pentatonix) "BEST DAYS! I'VE LEFT BEHIND, BEST DAYS!!!" Its one thing to be able to harmonize, but to sing flawlessly at the same note in unison? A gift to your ears and there is no doubt about it. Pentatonix is the most impressive vocal group of our generation (without mentioning Chole x Halle) and pair that with the warm adlibs and tone of Alessia, its no wonder this caught my attention. Truly one of 2022's best tracks and dont get me started on the realness of the lyrics. Honestly, its one flaw is that its so short, I feel as if there was so much more both the lyrics, and the singers could have explored but nonetheless, a good song all around. GreatestLoveofAll's 2022 Discoveries But I Love You- Phyllis Hyman Phyllis was mistreated and underappreciated far too muc and if only she had pulled though to see just how much her talent is admired by many R&B fans today. Her range here is elastic especially for a contralto as she was. What Made You Say That- Shania Twain If anyone hasn't seen the Shania documentary on netflix, I highly recommend it. Shania is such a lowkey person outside her rather elaborate shows that there is still so much us as fans are just now learning about her 30 years in! I discovered this early gem from her debut album and it is such a cute song. Opportunity- Sia I heard the pitched up version on tikTok the moment I heard those raspy belts and hadddd to know how I missed a Sia song. Turns out it was from 2014 from the most recent film adaptation of Annie and honestly, its a great tune to sing along too. The freedom in the words is matched by the emotion of Sia’s instrument and it can stand its own against her personal catalog for me. Waiting for a Star to Fall- Boy Meets Girl Highly doubt anyone here has heard this song, but its a 80s hit recorded by the then husband and wife duo who wrote Whitney’s “How Will I Know” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)”. This song was originally written for her too, but I guess it just was too far from saving from its poppy clutches even for Whitney’s talents. It’s a good bop though and seeing it went top five, it might have just been a missed chance for Miss Houston!
