TheWayWeWere Posted December 31, 2022 Author Posted December 31, 2022 so I'm gonna be drunk for the next day or two so let me made a big update before the last two T O P 5 0 A L B U M S Quote 15 Tove Lo | Dirt Femme "I never wanted babies - I know they're kinda cute, I never wanted marriage but here I am with you" The way she provides us with undeniable BAWPS even on maybe her weakest album yet. It's not bad album in any way - I love how it's very confident, celebratory of the women, of freedom, vulnerable or lusty at times record. It's probably one of her best lyrically, very smart funny, hot-bodied and mature work. But the way singles outshine almost every track on the album is kinda jarring. highlights: Pineapple Slice, I'm to Blame, Suburbia, Attention ***** Quote 14 The Weeknd | Dawn FM "You are now listening to 103.5 Dawn FM, you've been in the dark for way too long" I was pretty unsure what to expect from this based on ...questionable cover and pretty unmemorable 'Take My Breath', but it endes up as probably one of his finest and most stunning works ever. Yeah, it lacks of "hit-worthy" songs. Yeah, it's probably one his poppiest album yet. But this is such a cohesive record - the way the tracks blend into each other, the way a radio/purgatory concept works so well, all those little details are making this album like musical experience as a whole. And I really loved the way how even though he furthers more into 80s nostalgia mania, he tries to do something different from disco sound - trying dark pop, easy listening ballads or synthpop. highlights: Less Than Zero, How Do I Make You Love Me?, Is There Someone Else?, Don't Break My Heart Quote 13 Avril Lavigne | Love Sux "Am I insane expectin' you to change?" I know y'all gonna drag me, but I...actually like it? Like, yeah, it's practically a collection of generic pop-punk / pop-rock bangers, that could've been on MGK or Mod Sun albums, but unlike these artists Avril actually made them kinda work? I've accepted Avril as a niche artist, especially after experiments like HAW Album is very fun, fast-paced, full of catchy choruses, it's simple, well-produced and what I love about it especially - full of energy. Her energetic delivery of singing, screaming, making fun is what made us love her back in the days. Very nice return to the roots. And outtakes from sessions are pretty good too. highlights: Love Sux, Cannonball, Mercury In Retrograde, Avalanche Quote 12 Alicia Keys | KEYS "If I should die before I wake could tears wash away mistakes?" I kinda love how she's open to experiment more now, when she flops here and there. But on the other hand the way her best works are unknown now though KEYS's double album/double production concept felt insane at first, but it actually...works somehow? It's like 90s remix album mania, it's like listening What's The 411 and What's The 411 Remix back to back. The way you can choose your favorite version, favorite production..very ambitious. This album is full of range, ambition, variety of genres and pretty good songwriting. Some of her best r&b songs in like decade? I understand that's a bit hard to listen in one listen, but if you choose the best tracks from both sides you can get probably her best album yet. highlights: Skydive (Originals), Dead End Road (Unlocked), Love When You Call My Name (Originals), Only You (Unlocked), Old Memories (Originals), Nat King Cole (Originals) Quote 11 FKA twigs | CAPRISONGS "Okay, twigs, I know everyone probably annoys you about this but that song with Dua Lipa, "Why Don't You Love Me Anymore?" When are you gonna release it?" I guess it's needy to follow your most personal and heartbreaking record with more light-hearted stuff - which twigs did with this mixtape. And it's actually..gorgeous? It's fun and intruguing, very summery, carefree and dancey? Production are amazing as always with twigs. And I don't even found myself hating on voice messages/interludes as I usually do. I really love the way she shifts pop into more hip-hop/indie r&b genre, but still finds room for her essential weirdness. Probably her most easy album to listen. highlights: papi bones, thank you song, jealousy, pamplemousse, oh my love T O P 1 5 0 S I N G L E S Quote 31 Tove Styrke | YouYouYou "All the phases in my life have your name etched with a knife" An euphoric pop perfection? Yes! Most explosive and synthfulled banger on album, and probably the highlight of it. Quote 30 Mabel, 24kGoldn | Overthinking "Woke up in the dress I wore last night, how you got me acting this way?" I just love how the song have such a bittersweet feeling - it's very chill, relaxing, dancey and full of synths, but at the same time is pretty sad. And I really like how it's so 80s on drugs a bit sound. Honestly should've been the big hit off the album. Quote 29 Taylor Swift | Anti-Hero "Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby and I'm a monster on the hill" Even tho I wasn't impressed at first, this is probably the catchiest song she released in like...years? The way she speaks on her own's weaknesses and struggles in a pop song giving the song personal and intimate side, while pop production elevates it to a level of earworm tbh. The way the song's beat practically will stuck in your head Quote 28 Noah Cyrus | Ready To Go "I stay, we'll burn 'til you leave first" I love more bluegrass/contry influences from this. Really beautiful and tender piece of her music. Quote 27 Charli XCX | Used to Know Me "I don't need a kiss goodbye, I'm on my own tonight" Not my immediate favorite from 'CRASH', but the music video made me love this so MUCH. Should've been at "Break My Soul" type of success! Carefree fun club bop and this works as both breakup anthem and as response to her toxic fans!! Love it. Quote 26 Florence + the Machine | Free "I'm on fire, but I'm trying not to show it" This is gorgeous - big, soaring, euphoric, rocky tale of anxiety and traumas! The way she translates anxiety and fleeting moments without it with her music and voice is absolutely amazing. Quote 25 Adele | Oh My God "I know that it's wrong but I want to have fun" This is pretty much hated here, but I actually liked it? I think the description of a banger, dancey track ruined entire "expectations vs reality" thing It's cute bop, far from her best, far from the best of "30", but it's moody and vibey and fun. Quote 24 Ellie Goulding, Big Sean | Easy Lover "Every time I leave, you pull me back in" You know, I surely love her alt-pop stuff, but sis really can create such awesome pop perfection bops. This is so fresh, infectious, addictive and has enormous replay value. Production is top notch, really love guitar parts they keep here and there. Really nice summery track and great comeback for her. Quote 23 Tove Lo | 2 Die 4 "You don't look like in your photo, you're prettier than that" The best use of a sample in pop music this year, periodt!! Quote 22 Avril Lavigne, blackbear | Love It When You Hate Me "I ignore all the warning signs, fall for you every time" This is probably the catchiest song on the record. Very fun and infectious song, really desrved to be a hit for her. Quote 21 Harry Styles | Late Night Talking "If you're feelin' down I just wanna make you happier" I liked it, but it's not my choice for a single at all. Yeah, it's catchy and etc, but too cheesy for me, and aged badly tbh But the production and overall sunny vibe of it helped it to stay in my summer playlist for a while. Remmy Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Message In a Bottle is such a serve It gives me cheesy '00s kids/teens movie soundtrack vibes but in the best way possible. Meanwhile IBYTAM is simply cute, not one of my favorites from the Red vault. Beach House yuppp a grower Same for Used to Know Me! TV is fine, The 30th really outsold for me honestly. YouYouYou, Anti-Hero, Late Night Talking This is Why Easy Lover and 2 Die 4 yesss And you spilled on 2D4 having the best pop sample of the year, when that beat first dropped I was nearly floored. Love it When You Hate Me is so much fun, same with (nearly) the rest of the album. Surrender I prefer her debut and knew there was very little chance of her topping it, but this is a great followup for sure. Sadly agree with Dirt Femme likely being Tove's weakest, although the good part is... she simply can't miss! At least not all the way. Dawn FM was a great way to start the year, I mean just the concept alone I-- ~~ Anywhere with You, Shatter, Be Cool. Love Sux, Avalanche, Less Than Zero, HDIMYLM?, Pineapple Slice, Suburbia, Attention Whóre in your faves period
TheWayWeWere Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 okay the first of two last updates are here (I'm still drunk, so write-ups going to be bad ) T O P 5 0 A L B U M S Quote 10 Mary J. Blige | Good Morning Gorgeous "I'd rather go insane than live my life in vain" Welp, i love Mary so so much, and she's rarely miss the point with her albums. This one is practically works as some kind of..therapy? Therapy for making me happy, love and appreciate myself, have fun - such a comfortable and chill listen. I love songwriting on this, beats are sick, the instrumentals serving classic r&b here and there, and I love some nostalgic elements on this. Such a classic record for her. I love when she experiments, but you can't deny that she's such a pro r&b singer. Really really happy for her Grammys success. highlights: Gone Forever, Tough Love, Love Without The Heartbreak, Enough, Love Will Never Quote 9 MØ | Motordrome "Don't make the autumn wind seem like a warm breeze" While MØ failed to get me excited with pre-release singles, 'Motordrome' ends up as an almost perfect electro-pop record. I love more darkish sound in comparision with her previous works, the production is very intersting - make you feel isolated in some dark place sometimes, and I really like more prominent use of guitars/live instruments. Very solid pop album, a combination of both dark themes, lighthearted bops, personal issues and her quirky character. highlights: Wheelspin, Cool to Cry, Goosebumps, Hip Bones, Spaceman Quote 8 Adele | 30 "How come we've both become a version of a person we don't even like?" This has to be one of the most conflicting albums for me from a pop girl, I love/admire Like...I hated the title (lazy), cover (beautiful, but bad execution), lead single (love it, but such a safe choice), promo campaign (the way she disappeared in a week after album release). I'm not gonna lie, I didn't like it the way I loved 21 or 25, for example, I think overall sense/sequencing didn't really help - the album has some of her literally best songs ever mixed with questionable radio/bad mixed mess, wtf, and album overall doesn't really holds as a cohesive record for me. But even with these duds and other problems, I think she still has an ear for some absolutely gorgeous pieces of music. highlights: My Little Love, Hold On, I Drink Wine, Love Is a Game, To Be Loved Quote 7 Florence + the Machine | Dance Fever "I just kept spinning and I danced myself to death" The witch is back Honestly, such a relief after her previous mid-record (even though I warmed up to it through the last years). This is extravagant, poetic, lush, heartfelt, folk, textured, gorgeous piece of art. The way she describes it as "grand self-mythology" is the best way to describe this record at all. highlights: Choreomania, Dream Girl Evil, The Bomb, Cassandra, Morning Elvis Quote 6 Taylor Swift | Midnights "Cause I don't remember who I was before you painted all my nights a color I've searched for" My first thought about this album was - wtf? why everybody stans this so much? But over a week this grows on me so so much. I loved how she finally changed the direction of folklore/evermore (even though I loved them), I loved more laidback/chilly sound of the record - it gives you a glimpse of its title, and of course I love how she combines more sounds on it - there's pure pop, folk, alt-pop, dream-pop and more. And what I like the most - how album works as some kind of collection of dreams, maybe fairytales about emotions, personal issues and relationships. Really beautiful, gentle, relatable record. highlights: Snow On The Beach, Would've, Could've, Should've, You're On Your Own, Kid, Mastermind, Hits Different T O P 1 5 0 S I N G L E S Quote 20 Billie Eilish | The 30th "If you changed anything, would you not have survived?" That freaking bridge alone!! Always gives me goosebumps. Quote 19 MØ | True Romance "I can be a good girl if you help me" I can't believe this ***** kept this song hidden for like 5 or 6 years. It's honestly one of her bests ever. That guitar riff alone! Quote 18 Beyoncé | CUFF IT "I'm in the mood to **** something up" One of the best and catchiest disco songs this year. The way it gives you such a nice warm feeling, while you can't resist to dance with the rhythm of it. Quote 17 Mitski | The Only Heartbreaker "I'll be the water main that's burst and flooding, you'll be by the window, only watchin'" The way Mitski can make even pop banger about the heartbreak is honestly amazing. Gorgeously produced with unexpected turns and use of sounds or instruments - I mean, the use of electroguitar at the end is mindblowing. Quote 16 Kehlani, Justin Bieber | up at night "You think it's calculated, baby, I'm just not that clever" One of the most positive things she ever created - amazingly catchy and infectious pop r&b banger, that DESERVED to be a big hit Quote 15 Empress Of | Save Me "In the back of the room, I want you to save me" One of the best produced pop songs of the year, period - flashy sexual banger with infectious instrumental, and the use of synths here!! Whew! Quote 14 Maggie Rogers | That's Where I Am "You never touched me, but I felt you everywhere" Solid way to introduce the new era and new sound. Really effective rocky banger, that stays catchy even with its heavy sound and loudy vocals. Quote 13 Kylie Minogue, Jessie Ware | Kiss of Life "Has anybody ever told you your kiss is delicious?" I feel like this collab was made in heaven. Quote 12 MØ | New Moon "I'm not that somebody that you used to bully" The way she created a banger about abusive relationships and the way to regain control is absolutely amazing. One of the biggest and bests bops she did in the last years. Quote 11 Tove Lo | No One Dies from Love "Will you remember us? Or are the memories too stained with blood now?" Perfect example why Tove is probably the best pop crafter in the industry right now. Inescapable synthpop ear-worm with pretty good lyrics and amazing progression through the song.

Overthinking is such a grower. I used to hate at it at first but it become my favorite singles from the album 2 Die 4, Easy Lover & Used to Know Me are BANGERS nnnnnnnn that's what I talked about, ***** releasing good music again finally, but no one listens On 12/31/2022 at 7:58 PM, Polgg48 said: avril + tove + alicia + taylor love mabel on the list too, bop On 1/1/2023 at 5:23 AM, Legend E said: I forgot about Alicia's album *maybe* i will check it? dirt femme is my fave out of the albums dawn fm is also great! love sux is way too high overthinking anti-hero, free, oh my god, easy lover 2 Die 4 her alexandra stan era! another one you should On 1/1/2023 at 2:41 PM, Allday said: Overthinking + anti-hero + used to know me + easy lover + 2 die 4 + love it when you hate me Love sux & dawn fm 15 hours ago, Mr. Loco said: Anti-hero & Late night talking 5 hours ago, Brandon said: The Weeknd, Taylor & Ellie 1 hour ago, Remmy said: Message In a Bottle is such a serve It gives me cheesy '00s kids/teens movie soundtrack vibes but in the best way possible. Love Sux, Avalanche, Less Than Zero, HDIMYLM?, Pineapple Slice, Suburbia, Attention Whóre in your faves period The 30th is THAT *****!
Polgg48 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 oh adele there she is, hard to find her on this page. Mary J. Blige she is so going to win a grammy or more with this album such a queen MØ, several mention on year end lists here, well deserved
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Dance Fever acclaim I really like Good Morning Gorgeous but there's some reason why i don't want to go back as much as i want it too. Here with Me & the title track are one of her best songs in a long time for sure CUFF IT, The Only Heartbreaker, up at night, That's Where I Am & Kiss of Life are all BANGERS!
