GreatestLoveofAll Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Adele, mary and Beyonce if i had made a 2021 list 30 would have been my top album for sure though I get your points. Also here for Anti-hero! its grown on me
Remmy Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Motordrome was super underwhelming. Cool to Cry is a cute track, I think there's one other highlight and then you have NEW MOON which holds the album together. 30 is nice, not her strongest work though. Same for Midnights nnn but Taylor can pretty much do no wrong. Hold On, I Drink Wine, Love Is a Game, Would've Could've Should've, You're On Your Own Kid, Mastermind, Hits Different in your standouts Meanwhile one song from my bottom 3s are included as well Save Me, CUFF IT, New Moon, No One Dies from Love ayyy get me out on the dancefloor Kiss of Life would not be able to do the same though. Just can't get into Kylie recently (and lowkey overall.) The 30th is beautiful and yeah, that bridge is stellar. That's Where I Am yesss Spilled @ it being a solid way to introduce the era
TheWayWeWere Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 well, finally, the winners are here. Drag me T O P 5 0 A L B U M S Quote 5 Mitski | Laurel Hell "Who will I become tonight?" Her sound and imagery is practically on another level - the way she expresses her emotions and strugglings are indescribable. Production is immaculate as always, she sings with her heart and soul, and I'm actually like that this is her probably most easy-listen album yet. I love how she explores herself in more fun, lighthearted themes and sound. But I think the way the singles raised the expectation mark so high makes the other tracks from album sound a bit...bland? Still, very impressive record. highlights: Stay Soft, There's Nothing Left for You, Should've Been Me, That's Our Lamp Quote 4 Harry Styles | Harry's House "You showed me a power that is strong еnough to bring sun to the darkest days" Another album I met with a pretty mixed reaction. I expected a lot more from him after 'Fine Line', maybe more cohesive, more mature record with some further experimentation with rock/folk/soul music. 'Harry's House' on the other side is more quiet, mellow album that serves as a nice companion to cold autumn evenings, it feels more like a thoughtful work on where he is at this time of his life, relaxing therapy-like album. There's some intersting sounding picks and some personal and intimate songwriting, but overall feeling is like it's too...safe? Very solid pop record with a kind feel-good vibe, but with a little replay value tbh. highlights: Satellite, Little Freak, Daylight, Cinema Quote 3 Taylor Swift | Red (Taylor's Version) "I drive down different roads but they all lead back to you" "Red" was the first album by Taylor that I really liked and bought - so I never really expected her to recreate the magic of the original with this re-recorded version. But, welp, she proves me wrong. Not only she saved the magic and nostalgic vibe of original, but with enchanced production, mature vocals and added tracks she created probably better, brighter, deeper, glossier version of already terrific pop record. Just another proof how "Red" remains as probably her best work yet, even in 10 years, it still sounds fresh, relatable and expressive. highlights: Babe, Better Man, Nothing New, The Very First Night Quote 2 Charli XCX | CRASH "I don't give a **** what you think about me" Charli got me really worried with this album - mostly because her previous foray into a "sell-out" era was pretty much a disaster (sorry, 'Sucker' fans). But she can't do wrong now tbh Yeah, this album is a mixed bag practically - but WHAT A BAG! A banger after a banger, extremely catchy celebrataion of pop in its many variations - the way she explores many sides of this main genre is amazing and cements her as a true pop trailblazer. Great combination of modern and vintage mainstream pop with infectious choruses and euphoric production. highlights: Lightning, Constant Repeat, Crash, Sorry if I Hurt You, How Can I Not Know What I Need Right Now Quote 1 Beyoncé | RENAISSANCE "I need more nudity and ecstasy on this magic ride" I...like by 2022 there was almost no way for Bey to really surprise us, especially after surprise drop of self-titled or revealing divorce-therapy like "Lemonade"...but she somehow still snatched our wigs, right? PRODUCTION. COHESIVENESS. DIVERSITY. DISCO. GENIUS USE OF SAMPLES. DETAILS. TRANSITIONS!!! She practically created her finest, most interesting, nuanced and innovative record 25 years into a career. Modern classic in the making. highlights: ALIEN SUPERSTAR, ENERGY, PURE/HONEY, SUMMER RENAISSANCE, VIRGO'S GROOVE T O P 1 5 0 S I N G L E S Quote 10 Florence + the Machine | My Love "I was always able to write my way out" The way Flo can make dance floor anthem sound epic, dramatic and theatrical is amazing. Absolutely gorgeous lush song and amazing foray into a disco/dance sound for her. Quote 9 Noah Cyrus | Mr. Percocet "I wish you'd still love me when your drugs wear off in the morning" I feel like she put some percocet literally in this song - a perfect combination of folk with pop, smart lyrics, unforgettable ear-wormy motive and chorus. Maybe the catchiest thing she ever did. Quote 8 FKA twigs, The Weeknd | tears in the club "I don't wanna believe that I belong to you" Such an unexpectable collab, but such a delightful result - fantastic production from Arca, amazingly catchy passionate sound and vocal delivery, absolute ear-candy, and the way it is actually get you in your feelings in the futuristic club. Mindblowing. Quote 7 MØ | Brad Pitt "If we fall in love, can we make it stick?" Idk, something about this make it so nostalgic, so home-like and dreamy - really magical song. Quote 6 Taylor Swift | All Too Well (10 Minute Version) [Taylor's Version] "You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine and that made me want to die" A masterpiece. I honestly can't see her beating that ever (she still can surprise me). I never seen the brilliance of that song in an original version, but this one is just...a punch after a punch after a punch The way she breaks my heart with every verse Quote 5 Mitski | Love Me More "Here's my hand, there's the itch, but I'm not supposed to scratch" This is...marvelous, stellar 80s inspired theatrical pop banger with amazingly memorable hook. The way instrumental progresses from a slow song into a flooding river over the lenght is just...unforgettable! Quote 4 Charli XCX, Rina Sawayama | Beg for You "You're like an ocean breeze, coming and going just as you please" Another great use of a sample, especially since "Cry for You" remains as one of the best europop songs ever. Really nice throwback to 08-10s electropop music, with extremely catchy melody and addictive chorus. Quote 3 Beyoncé | BREAK MY SOUL "The queens in the front and the Doms in the back" I don't know what kind of drugs did she put in it, but this is absolutely magnetic and stunning. Quote 2 Harry Styles | As It Was "Harry, you're no good alone, Why are you sittin' at home on the floor? What kind of pills are you on?" Yeah yeah, it was overplayed to death and etc, but you can't deny how this is practically perfectly crafter pop banger - the way it explores its melancholic motif and sample into a dancefloor anthem is amazing. Mellow, dreamy, euphoric and anthemic pop gem. Quote 1 Tove Lo | How Long "There's no way to prepare for burning, brutal rejection" That #1 is just for the intro alone >>> R E C A P On 12/10/2022 at 12:25 AM, TheWayWeWere said: R E C A P [.] Honourable Mentions / Throwbacks [x] TOP 50 ALBUMS: 1 Beyoncé | RENAISSANCE 2 Charli XCX | CRASH 3 Taylor Swift | Red (Taylor's Version) 4 Harry Styles | Harry's House 5 Mitski | Laurel Hell 6 Taylor Swift | Midnights [x] 7 Florence + the Machine | Dance Fever [x] 8 Adele | 30 [x] 9 MØ | Motordrome [x] 10 Mary J. Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Laurel Hell, CRASH & RENAISSANCE in the top 5 yaass Truly my favorite albums this year! My Love, tears in the club, Love Me More, Beg for You, As It Was are all BANGERS BREAK MY SOUL is honetly Bey's best comeback single since BEYONCE (2013) It's truly that bop! How Long is honestly really great. It's the best Euphoria soundtrack song by far (even though it didn't featured heavily on the episode. I still mad by that nnn)
JGibson Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 My Love + All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) + How Long + As It Was + Break My Soul

potent Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 For a while I thought BMS could be my #1. Such a huge bop. I liked AIW too although I would put BMS above. Mitski and Florence getting appreciation too. Laurel Hell has a few boring songs imo but I love Shouldve Been Me and That's Our Lamp.

ATW10MVFTV A slay & discography highlight no matter what version, wish it didn't miss the top 5 though. BREAK MY SOUL and As It Was How Long #1 ayyy Pretty solid pick, it's a big bop from start to finish, and yeah the intro is SO good. Albums~ Never been able to get into Mitski. Surprised to see Harry's House this high Glad i'm not the only fan here, even though it's HS>>FL>HH for me. Red (TV) still getting love 13 months later I prefer the original, but the vault tracks are generally great, which I see as the main event for these rerecordings anyway. CRASH is plenty of fun, and yeah Sucker is weak you spilled! nnn. RENAISSANCE Super super deserving #1, she truly snapped. ~~ Satellite, Little Freak, Daylight, Cinema, Babe, Better Man, Nothing New, Lightning, Sorry if I Hurt You, How Can I Not Know..., ALIEN SUPERSTAR, ENERGY, PURE/HONEY, SUMMER RENAISSANCE, VIRGO'S GROOVE in your highlights Great lists and Best Of overall As usual!
