it hasn't even sold that much relative to 21 and Thriller but it's been hanging on to the top 5 for god knows how long, it's a slow neverending drip of 30-60k sales each week from all the country stans streaming and buying

Just like with the all-time Hot 100 list, we're going to need a serious reweighting of these past few years to account for changes on how streaming increased longevity and how many songs and albums have overstayed their welcomes due to pure stagnation of the mainstream landscape (see "STAY", "Levitating", "Save Your Tears", and "Heat Waves" during the painfully dry Q1 of 2022 - as much as I enjoy all these songs).

 

"Dangerous" ' longevity shouldn't be discredited, but it shouldn't be weighted the same as other behemoths from past eras given how much the environment has changed since, most notably the switch from dominant sales to streaming.

Aaaaah I see. Thanks for clarifying. And im sure the album will be stuck for years in the lower positions too, so its no unrealistic that this will be a diamond record in the streaming era at some point. Sigh

tbh this album was really REALLY good for country music. Wasted on You and 7 Summers are highlights and could have been gorgeous midtempos even for popgirls lol. That said he is trash and has used racial slurs so I dont support him having this level of success until he has proven he has actually genuinly changed.
