Happier Than Ever :smitten: my #1 of the last year

Kiss of Life is still giving me LIFE

Love Again :smitten:

I've always loved Jessie Ware, but since her 2020 MASTERPIECE she's definitely among my favourite artists currently.

Let's start with the singles countdown!

100. WILLOW - HOVER LIKE A GODDESS

Since she dropped t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l last year, it's clear that WILLOW has finally found her voice and sound. This is her first entry out of two.

99. Beabadoobee - See You Soon

First of two

entries from Beabadoobee. While I might be in the minority who prefers her debut album to her newest record, I love how she went back to her EPs sound for this blissful single.

98. Angel Olsen - Through the Fires

First of two entries from one of my favourite songwriters of the last decade. Very similar to Chance from All Mirrors, easily one of the best songs of the last decade. A heart-stopping ballad that I'd recommend to everyone.

97.  The 1975 - All I Need to Hear

This is their first entry out of two. I'm not the biggest fan of their new album, but they can do no wrong when it comes to such cute melodies. It sort of sounds like your typical Ed Sheeran wedding song, if that was a compliment.

96. Ava Max - Million Dollar Baby

Her only entry in this countdown. An incredibly catchy chorus. Her music may not be the most original out there, but her hooks are always stellar.

95. Father John Misty - Goodbye Mr Blue

This is the first of three entries from FJM. In what I consider probably the best album of his career, this is an highlight that goes back to the Harry Nilsson sound. The lyrics are simple yet extremely touching

"Love is always gonna leave you. No matter what they say, you only know what it is once it's gone away"

94. Arcade Fire - Unconditional I (Lookout Kid)

This is the first of three entries from Arcade Fire. They somewhat redeemed themselves with this year's WE from the mess (according to the critica) of the controversial Everything Now from 5 years ago.

93. Tinashe - Naturally

Her first and only entry this year. A groovy bop that's probably simpler than her other outputs but as effective as her faster tracks.

92. Harry Styles - As It Was

His first and only entry this year. Probably one of the biggest hits of 2022, where Harry draws a bit from a simple 80s synthpop-tune (it reminds of Take on Me a bit) and a more contemporary indie pop sound (it could be a song from Two Door Cinema Club first albums). It's a rare case of a HUGE hit that, despite the fact it was extremely overplayed, it doesn't bother you AT ALL every time it comes up on the radio/tv.

91. Kelela - On the Run

Her first of three entries. After years of waiting, she's finally coming back with a new album next year and it's clear she's far from missing. It's a sick track with tasteful dub influences that's definitely promising for her upcoming record.

I was gonna put AF songs on my list but decided to cancel them :dies: that ones good though.

On the Run's underrated, I think a lot of people prefer WA/HE but idk, its probably my fave or 2nd fave.

Love Naturally but she had another cut that was better imo!

90. iamamiwhoami - Don't Wait for Me

Their only entry. I can't imagine a better comeback song for iamamiwhoami than this one, it had that "intro" vibes that Sever had back in 2012, with an intricate production and overall very moving atmosphere.

89. Empress Of - Save Me

Her only entry. An hard-hitting song with an amazing production, the dramatic strings are EVERYTHING.

88. Beyoncé - Break My Soul

Her only entry. Beyoncé delivered with her comeback single, releasing one of the most impressive bangers for gay clubs in 2022.

87.  U.S. Girls - So Typically Now

Her only entry. A great song that sees this very underrated artist try a new genre.

86. PinkPantheress - Boy's a liar

This is the first of two entries from her. A short (as usual for her) banger from an incredible revelation of the last two years.

85. Hannah Diamond - Staring at the Ceiling

Her only entry. I remember feeling a bit disappointed at first with this one, but I progressively changed my mind and I'm now hoping her new album (unsure if an actual album exists tho) is going to be in this vein.

84. Poppy - FYB

Her only entry. A short but incredibly valid song from Poppy.

83. Flume - Sirens (feat. Caroline Polachek)

[QUOTEThis is Flume's only entry in the countdown and Caroline's first of four appearances she's going to have. It's an ethereal track with outstanding lyrics and a beautiful vocal melody from Caroline. Probably the most impressive sounding stuff Flume has ever put out, with LOTS of crazy things going on in this track.[/QUOTE]

82. Rina Sawayama - This Hell

This is Rina's first of four appearances. While the lyrics may get a bit campy at times, it's extremely catchy. It manages to sound like something Lil Nas X would have wrote for his debut album, mixed with an early Gaga vibe.

81. The Killers - boy

Their only entry. If this is an indication for their next album, I'm definitely excited.

80. Chlöe - Treat Me

A good track that made me excited for her record (which will probably never see the light of day). I love pretty much everything about this track, which manages to sound like a Kelis single released in 2003 and a modern take on R&B at the same time.

79. Father John Misty - Funny Girl

This combo of Father John Misty and traditional baroque pop is a match made in heaven.

78. Tiësto - Hot in It (feat. Charli XCX)

This song goes HARD. It's an earworm that suddenly makes you wanna go taking vogueing lessions. It further shows the ability of Charli to easily switching between underground pop music and mainstream. The only flaw is that it's TOO SHORT.

77.  Rina Sawayama - Hold the Girl

An anthem song from Rina. I like how it mixes this epic vibe in the chorus with the 2-step twist in the verses. I wasn't sold on the drop at first, but I now think it's actually a perfect example of how creative she is. I can't think of other songs that sound like they're from a Disney musical with eurodance elements like this one.

76. Tove Lo - True Romance

It was very bold from her to release this as a single. It sounds like something Charli XCX could have released in the beginning of her career. Vocally, it's probably the rawest moment of her career so far.

75. Shygirl - Coochie (A Bedtime Story)

While this track may sound a bit too "easy" on the ears when you first listen to it, I actually think it's a little gem of a single from her. It's weird, funny, at times unsettling and the production is very detailed, way more than it initially appears (considering how catchy this song is).

74. Gorillaz - New Gold (feat. Tame Impala & Bootie Brown)

I have a feeling this upcoming record is going to be their best since Plastic Beach (sorry, I didn't enjoy Song Machine at all). They haven't sounded this groovy in a decade.

73. Father John Misty - Q4

This is even better than Funny Girl, it has a little more depth to it even though they're pretty similar. It sounds like a future classic and I get (strangely enough) some ABBA vibes. The hook in particular is exquisite

72. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Burning

This is an excellent song that picks up exactly from what they left in 2013 with Mosquito. It reminds me a lot of Sacrilege, but better.

71. Shygirl - Shlut

I was very surprised to find out this song was produced by Bloodpop, a producer I'm not entirely fond of. It sounds more like a Sega Bodega feat. Shygirl track from his album (it makes sense, since he co-produced it). The verses are very good, especially the second one where her songwriting shines:

I wish I were you just to get a piece of me is such a KILLER line.
