Rina getting biggest grower :clap3: what a stunning and underrated album

I'm That Girl -> Cozy -> Alien Superstar -> Cuff It literally my fave transition/sequence of songs but them leading into Energy/BMS is cute too

You spilled with the biggest growers omg, Rina's album started off mid af to me but now I love everything except two songs. And Beach House... YES! BEACH HOUSE... IN MALIBU...

Hold My Hand was definitely a song that was released as part of a soundtrack!

The Bey transitions slay, although my personal favorite is Plastic/Virgo. Ed zzzz, and not looking up that Kanye cover lol

I expected BBB to be funnier honestly  but it was cute. Sadly LP didn't impress me.

I was a massive Hilary Duff's stan :fan:

yeah, agree, but Rachel Sennott elevated it on another level :alexz:

Hold the Girl grows on me a lot since I started my list here :jonny5:

Beach House finally getting love

Yeah, the transitions on Ren' are nothing like we've seen in a minute.

Your "The Joker & the Queen (Remix)" take, forreal :toofunny3:

I forgot The Game and Ye's song was this year. I really thought it would be SOMETHING...but was it something

BEST FILMS

[[ Eligibility period: 10/01/2021 - 12/01/2022 ]]

15. Lightyear [B-]
Notes:
- Chris Evans is a solid Buzz. Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn & Uzo Abuda are great. Everyone else didn't really do much for me (in terms of their characters.) || - Has some good moments, but unfortunately they're surrounded by moments that aren't as entertaining/thrilling/interesting. || - Would've been better if they didn't hit so many of the typical beats these kinds of movies hit, like it just started getting straight up predictable after a while.
- Felt like a Disney+ exclusive, which it probably should've been.

14. The Bad Guys [B-]

Notes:

- Felt a tad basic for the first 10-15 minutes but after that, it was easier to enjoy the characters and concept. || - Pacing is pretty good aside from how quickly certain characters changed their personalities. || - Solid voice cast. || - The movie is cute enough, better than other animated stuff that's thrown out these days.

13. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness [B-]

Notes:

- Had this at an A- when I saw it in theaters, unfortunately it's not as good at home. || - This movie was definitely quite messy, especially with the plot and writing... but it's a (lowkey) fun mess! - The first 10-15 minutes felt SUPER off but once we get past that, the pacing is generally lightning fast and there's so much being thrown at you that it's kinda easy to ignore several flaws. || - Sam Raimi's directing style is evident and I feel like it works here, even the campier moments. || - There's a handful of elements that are kinda new for the MCU, which is cool to see. || - Elizabeth Olsen... EAT EAT EAT. She devoured. Completely expected of course.

12. Hocus Pocus 2 [B.]

Notes:

- It's not amazing but it's definitely not bad or terrible... so I'll take it! || - The new characters are all serviceable, obviously nearly everyone is perched for the classic trio (who did a great job returning to their roles!) || - The comedy can be a little forced at times, and there's definitely some magic missing between 1993 and now. || - Wasn't a fan of how things wrapped up, things were going decently well until they didn't stick the landing.

11. The Lost City [B.]

Notes:

- Sandra Bullock & Channing Tatum are a nice pair. || - Comedy is solid, kinda topical and modern but not cringy. || - It's kinda paint-by-the-numbers... still generally fun though. || - Sadly this is another film with a weak ending, plus there's two GIANT conveniences, but oh well.

10. Scream [B.]

Notes:

- Kinda mixed on how several characters are related to old characters and we're just supposed to not question it. || - Jenna Ortega snapped, she was the MVP for me. || - Very heavy on the drama, maybe a bit too heavy... || - Third act gets REALLY intense because a ton of characters are all in the same house || - Does a good job at paying homage to the original... while also copying it a little too much. Also does a good job at carrying on the series' usual traditions... while also being the most meta of the franchise (and not really in a good way.) || - I have  NO idea how some of these peopls survived. || Solid addition to the franchise but I'm glad we're going to New York because I need something new ... Scream 1 > Scream 2 >> Scream 4 = Scream ('22) > Scream 3

9. The Batman [B+]

Notes:

- Quite dark... and suspenseful! The music was very well done and added to that for sure. || - A bit of a slow burn for sure, if the first 45-ish minutes weren't like that then maybe this would be a A- || Things get better once Zoë Kravitz comes in. || - Riddler scenes are GREAT, Paul Dano is excellent in this. Colin Farrell is truly unrecognizable. || - Also loved that car chase and the 3rd act that wrapped things up quite well.

8. Encanto [B+]

Notes:

- Beautifully animated and incredibly colorful || - Objects being able to move on their own is cool & makes for some good comedic moments. Speaking of which, the comedy was solid. || - The main character is instantly loveable & you can sympathize with her situation from the jump. || - Songs are generally nice, actually better than expected - although they kinda lack some of the usual Disney magic. Also, the last 2 songs are the weakest ones.
- Dialogue can be quite repetitive, mentioning powers/family/protection a lot. || - The flashback in the last act was very touching. || - The ending actually felt REALLY abrupt, like when "Directed By" showed up, I was caught off guard.

7. Top Gun: Maverick [B+]

Notes:

- Wasn't interested in this until I was hearing rave reviews. Checked out the first one a few days before it and thought it was okay. This is a really solid sequel that is basically everything the original should've been, but couldn't be due to the fact that it came out in 1986. || - It's more comedic, emotional, intense and exhilarating than Top Gun with ease. Characters are actually written properly, there's true stakes that you can really feel, and the visuals are just incredible. || - There were some typical tropes this fell into, and a few nods/callbacks were a little too obvious but most of them were cute.

6. Turning Red [B+]

Notes:

- Super fun, fast-paced and silly as hell, reminds me of last year's The Michells vs. The Machines (aka my #1 of 2021.) || - Has a few surprising (but comedic) lines in there, like dropping "sexy", "stripper music" and talks about periods. || - I feel like someone that has really observed Twitter and Reddit or Twitch had a good hand in writing this because some dialogue is something you'd read on those. || - The whole "girl turning into a red panda" rules get a little fuzzy as the movie goes on but it's still a cute concept, and it's funny how it works because a girl who gets amped up over a leaf falling on the ground has to learn to relax her emotions. || - This taking place in the early '00s was a great idea. || - Awesome editing and there are some moments where the characters get super cartoony. Love it! || - I was kinda close to giving this an A- grade but something was keeping me from doing that and I'm not sure what that is... but that could potentially change with a 2nd viewing.

5. Nope [B+]

Notes:

- Keke Palmer MVP, love her as always. I mean the cast is limited but I can't say any performances are weak. || - A bit slow and quiet for a while, but learning about things while the characters do definitely keeps you interested. || - An event that happens a little after the first hour had me on the edge of my seat for the rest of the movie because this is something brand new and Jordan Peele made up the rules, so there's no saying what could happen. || - Plenty of suspense and tension. || - Get Out > Nope >>> Us

4. Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers [B+]

Notes:

- Truly didn't know this was coming out, never watched a trailer, never was a fan of Chip 'n Dale, but I was curious because of the good reviews. It's basically like a modern version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which is cool! || - It is STUFFED with references and IPs but I feel like a decent amount of them were done in the right way. Plenty of comedic moments from those and just in general. || - There's some creative and clever stuff done in here for sure, and then there are a few points where the cleverness has run out a bit. || - Quite a fun time for sure, which I wasn't expecting (especially for a random Disney+ original)! Pretty fast paced and easy to watch/enjoy. You can tell that there was plenty of love and heart put into this.

3. Do Revenge [A-]

Notes:

- Do Revenge feels like a movie that really knows what it is. It's silly, over-the-top, ridiculous but it's also fun and slightly nurturing. It makes fun of Gen Z & modern society while also showing them that they're not so bad... to some extent. || - It's very well aware that it's far from the first movie of its kind and definitely takes elements from some of those, especially Mean Girls. || - It's slightly long but there's enough entertainment, and a juicy plot twist, to keep things going. || - Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke are great... as for Camila, I was expecting her to be much worse considering she's a lead in Riverdale. || - Wow, Netflix made a great original film!!! How rare!! Good for them!

2. Everything Everywhere All at Once [A-]

Notes:

- I could write paragraphs upon paragraphs of positive things to say about this movie, it's just incredibly creative and fresh in so many ways. There's no wonder the word of mouth has been gigantic since it came out. || - Some of my favorite parts are the choreography, special effects, wardrobe and makeup, directing, writing, acting, the ridiculous ideas that somehow work, various connections between universes, and the spot-on continuity. I can't say there's any part of the cast/crew that didn't bring their A-game in this. || - As for the movie itself... while I do love it, I'm not necessarily among the crowd that worships it and that's mainly because there's SO MUCH going on that it can often be overwhelming. The title is no joke. There's also plenty of stopping + starting during certain sequences which I'm lowkey not the biggest fan of.

1. Spider-Man: No Way Home [A]

Notes:

- Super fun time! There's a lot going on but it's cleaner and more well managed than what happened in Spider-Man 3. || - Guess this is the best MCU Spider-Man movie?? A step above Homecoming/Far From Home, while those 2 are nearly on the same level. || - Seeing all 3 Spider-Man's together was legendary!!! Marvel/Sony tried to keep it a secret but oh well, knowing about the reunion ahead of time didn't ruin anything for me. || - Enjoyed it even more the 2nd time around at home. The comedy hits the right beats and the references + fan service are incredibly satisfying. Might be a few hiccups here and there but it's very entertaining and a joy to watch. - Truly feels EPIC and huge.

MCU Series Ranking

(including specials)

5. Ms. Marvel
Highlights~ Episodes 1 & 3
I love love LOVED the first episode, possibly the best MCU premiere so far... then it kinda went downhill from there (sans episode 3.) I don't know, just couldn't get fully connected & the CGI was noticably lacking. Very rushed as well.

4. She Hulk: Attorney at Law
Highlights~ Episodes 8 & 9
Ties WandaVision for the largest amount of episodes for an MCU series with 9, although some of those could've been cut for sure. Super overhated, it has some issues but there were plenty of people acting like it was the worst thing to ever hit TV/streaming when that's not even close to the truth. Tatiana Maslany is so fun to watch.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
Cute but a little too cheesy (not surprising for a Christmas special though.) Still decent enough to have some fun with during the holidays. Fits well with the Guardians universe. Also the animation bits at the beginning & end felt kinda cheap.

2. Moon Knight
Highlights~ Episodes 1, 4 & 5

My 2nd favorite MCU series behind WandaVision at the moment. Moon Knight (& his various personalities) as a character is super interesting and having him (them) be played by Oscar Isaac made it even better. Not every moment completely lands and the finale could've been better, but this quick miniseries definitely takes you on a wild ride. Episode 5 in particular is a Marvel standout.

1. Werewolf by Night

A great way to start off the special presentations! Quite fun, suspenseful, and does well at paying respect to classic black-and-white horror flicks. Stands at 52 minutes but leaves you wanting more. Has a more serious and mature tone compared to what we've seen from Marvel so far. I will be adding this to my yearly October lineup.

(NOTE: I also watched DC's Peacemaker & if I were to add that in, it would likely be at #3.)

I agree with the first 3, especially ITG -> COZY :sats: but CUFF IT effortlessly sliding into ENERGY is excellence. Then the first time I heard ENERGY and I could hear Big Freedia coming in at the end I was like omg she's NOT about to do this to me :jonny2:

Yeah it was cute and all :alexz3: But I'm definitely ready to see how they change things up in New York.

Interesting to see you think that it was too short :gaycat3: I feel like it should've been 6-7 while maybe next season could go a longer route.

I've added FLO to my playlist but still haven't listened to it :jonny: perched after all the praise here tbh :jonny5:

Kellyoke was disappointing to me tbh, especially since I loved almost all covers she uploaded on her YT channel :deadbanana4: this project felt lazy :rip:

Get on it N-O-W :jonny2:

I've known about Kelly doing covers on her show but I don't watch it & I've only seen maybe two clips from previous covers, but idk from an outside perspective I think she picked some solid ones. :jamming: Guess she could've replaced Trampoline though.

Eat Me MAYBE the best on Demi's album, at least top three. Energy is super underrated on Ren! That Hatchie collab is good but I prefer this one
