  • Disclaimer:

  • most releases of this year are considered great while not close to their magnum opus and few genres that have been getting attention to get more exposure toward the rest of decade: alt-rock shoegaze, str8 folktronica tiktok, grindcore, glitch pop, etc. and look like pop rock/pop punk on their edge to be non-popular likely next year onward.
  • with how non-dominant trend goes on and most people just out of pandemic phase, it's going take time to have those pop moments superstardom things again and matter of time until gen-z start to take control of music industry without millennium hags bothering on chart.
  • love to see how impactful bad bunny and rosalia are on western music, they are fresh and cool to stan. just need few acts follows that trend and we could see the potential of pop music again rather than MPG taylor swift beyonce lady gaga rihanna every years like bring someone new please.
  • Zella day - Sunday in Heaven is pop excellence i got her on this list instead, check it out. https://www.albumoftheyear.org/user/mhutto6214/list/95223/my-top-15-pop-albums-2022/

Cover art for Sunday in Heaven by Zella Day

  • Honor Mentions

over 2000 albums ive listened this year and make me realize i should go back to pop radio as where i belong, love other genres too like electronic/dance, metal, jazz etc. and most likely dive in more interesting obscene genres, field recording, free jazz or neo-psychedelia more. here are honor mentions.

Eyeye Lykke Li - Eyeye

realistism movie concept she pull off is well-made whether she intended or not but i like it a lot, her last album as she said oh well

Unamerican Beauty XYLØ - Unamerican Beauty

messy visuals and she sound to be anti lana-que for some reasons. few tracks are super bop and fun enough to get notice

Problématique Kim Petras - Problématique

remind me of 00's pop album where singles are bop and the rest is pure fillers but they should release the album lbr, such a shame.

Forgiveness Girlpool - Forgiveness

for me, its really emotional edge of ending relationship record where they admit to move on but cant let go. they disbanded after album out.

Rot Tennyson - Rot

subtle pop that he made just how to think joji should be at his point of his career but never succeed. adorable record love this a lot

Suckerpunch Chloe Moriondo - Suckerpunch

occasionally keep coming back to this album, love her on unapologetic pop and all her three albums arent sound the same, massive bops.

I Can't Let Go Suki Waterhouse - I Can't Let Go

something about this lana carbon copy that i love so much yet it's pretty basic with all consider. also her viral help her exposure too, looking forward to her.

PanoramaPEP Hayley Kiyoko - Panorama, Lights - PEP

both albums overshadowed and vanished some points because it's bad in general, i like them though they are not all bad no matter how others said.

Life in PlasticNight Call Tom Aspaul - Life in Plastic, Years & Years - Night Call

gay guys dont mean they always make parody music, both albums are really bopping and understand what UK cig need to do.

I Used to Think I Could FlyCHARLIE Tate McRae - I Used to Think I Could Fly, Charlie Puth - CHARLIE

frustrating over both albums mismanagement, i mean they are complete done rollout after album dropped and it doesnt paid off at all

Never Forget My Love Joss Stone - Never Forget My Love

HUGE underrated, given how stretch her vocal cord and pumping whether she pull it off or not. her high pitching still really good and enjoyable record needless to say.

  • worst of the year

most artists who expected to make bad music bad albums, dababy, the chainsmokers, or machine gun kelly (i do like mainstream sellout tho), are excluded. only for those surprisingly flop or make exceptional worst album.

How Is It That I Should Look at the Stars late added just realized ive missed : The Weather Station - How Is It That I Should Look at the Stars

sadly it's not giving anything and complete fail on whatever she tried on this album after ignorant masterpiece, sleeping pill

Come Home the Kids Miss You 10. Jack Harlow - Come Home the Kids Miss You

quite understand he wants to follow drake footstep and made exactly the type made drake famous but sooooooo corny

Laurel HellSerpentina 9. Mitski - Laurel Hell, Banks - Serpentina

that's okay to come out of high expectation and having bad results but they will serve on next albums for sure.

Alpha GamesThe Dream 8. Bloc Party - Alpha Games, alt-J - The Dream

past their prime long century ago and their music hasnt evolved at all cost. horrible mix horrible everything for both

World Wide Pop 7. Superorganism - World Wide Pop

the allegation severely end this band as well as brockhampton ones. album struggle to reach the end and too unpolished , sad.

Give or Take 6. Giveon - Give or Take

thank you justine skye for end his career once and for all, mediocrity is the word, it's so bland and unmemorable.

Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 5. Calvin Harris - Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2

when you know you dont want to make this type of album again and make it on fan demand. the lack of soul and heart on this.

ElevationTT Freak 4. Black Eyed Peas - Elevation, Akon - TT Freak

backfire on tiktok baited and they just make new album for whatever reason to get viral. unlistenable, trash dated 2009 things

Viva Las Vengeance 3. Panic! at the Disco - Viva Las Vengeance

worth mention that at least singles are okay for radio but the rest is falsetto go to heaven and hell, ear bleeding fest, oh brendon.

Trendsetter 2. Coi Leray - Trendsetter

as for someone who actually like her, it's really bad decision to read lyrics throughout this one and cant stop laughing over them.

Algorhythm 1. Todrick Hall - Algorhythm

i love his albums, haus party are bops so as femuline and the rest of catalog. major disappoint following the news and album has no redeem with dated 80's house that really miserable to listen and chunky for contents. horrible person worst album of the year.

lot of people like the album and it's not bad by all means. because it's mitski album but the standard is too high and above than most artists. :gaycat1:

EYEYE deserved to be on main list :'(

omg, so nice to see Joss on someone else's list :heart2:

Mabel :skull: welp, the era was indeed awful, but I loved the record!

your top 10 is pretty perfect wow :jonny5: Familia getting some love :'(

drag Mitski and Banks :clap3: Banks was a lot worse and also a bigger step down for her but both were soooo underwhelming compared to their previous material

Panic was obviously unlistenable and Coi SUCKED as well, haven't heard the #1 worst album tho sdgfhsd

guess I'm a bit basic cause I only know (and stan) Rosalia and Shygirl from the non atrl list, they deserved to make the main one tbh their album threads had a lot of replies

Familia and Traumazine were pretty mid but i love the rest of the top 10, especially MIDnights, Ren, Dirt Femme, Fossora and Preacher's Daughter

Ptolemaea, Eat Me and Bam Bam for top songs :clap3: Hatchie, Sudan and Weyes were also stunning albums, deserved to be a bit higher :fan:

not that basic i dont think a lot of people even in critic circle :mrpeanut: know these existence and they are quite quirky along with non-baited quality (black midi, black country new road and the album of most baited of the year below because it's too mess). you dont have to though but have fun if you wanna check them out.

like i stated, it's capatalism list what sale what acclaim would belong here exclusively for pop girls, even though le sserafim or ari lennox should be here

Hold The Girl is great (and not a Kelly tribute album, but anyways)...

Im screaming at these divisions, but you made some points, always stanning anyone with Hatchie inclusion

Posted

You listened to over 2000 albums this year?? HUH??? Well damn :jonny: (Sunday In Heaven is ok btw nnnn)

HMs~ Problématique was cute, still wild that it wasn't able to get released but Sl*t Pop was fine to be officially sent out. Night Call was also cute. unamerican beauty  || Worst~ Only one I heard was Panic! and yup, definintely deserved. Fine with several of the people showing up here, especially Todrick since he's a trash human. || ATRL Girls~ asjdfij t some of these little writeups are sending me :deadbanana2: especially Midnights, despite being ON TOP :deadbanana4: I enjoy a good portion of this list, love these focus tracks~ Sky Love, DOIN' MY BEST, Frankenstein, Cardboard Box, What I Want, Quicksand, No One Dies from Love, Constant Repeat, EAT ME, The Loneliest Time, CUFF IT & Lavender Haze :clap3: :clap3:

not impressed with first listen too, the promising visual she showed on trailers pre-release are not that related to contents outside of few songs and clearly more about collection than visual album. however, everything, melt, alter, little story, any given sunday and wandering are such a strong r&b set and ate most other r&b album so chose her as contemp r&b girl spot.

anyhow, thanks everyone in this thread as indicated that im not reply anymore, be well and stan newjeans :penguin:
