ACTUAL LIST HERE

75-51

75. Sky Ferreira - Don't Forget

spacer.png

Well I forgot to write the description for this one too so we're even. Now you can retire

74. StayC - Young Luv

spacer.png

Their best song :heart2: I've been dying for more Dream Pop and Indie Rock type stuff in K-Pop and I was given exactly what I needed. Would probably end up placing this even higher, but I didn't really go back to it until recently when I realized how great it is

73. Empath - 80s

 spacer.png

Fun Noise Pop bop! This album didn't particularly reinvent the wheel but certainly did its job

72. Ava Max - Million Dollar Baby

spacer.png

Ava's debut left me kind of befuddled, because there were some amazing tracks like Born to the Night and Naked that showed she had a clear ear for early 2010's pop, but also some songs that... um... weren't great. Diamonds and Dancefloors on the other hand, is packed with bangers! Since the rest of the album isn't in HQ  out yet, I'll shout out a single. The sample's incorporated perfectly and this is bursting with energy

71. Le Sserafim - ANTIFRAGILE

spacer.png

ANTITITITI-FRAGILE FRAGILE

Isabella Lovestory wrote this, meaning it slaps!

70. Alice Glass - Fair Game

alice-glass-fair-game-Cover-Art.jpg

I liked her album, although I wish I liked it more after such a good run of singles. Sucks to say her stuff with Crystal Castles >>>> :/ BUT, this goes hard. The Electro-Industrial instrumental combined with the emotional lyrics is a hard-hitting combo. Also feels much less generic than some of her other stuff

69. HYRA - Seventh Heaven

hyra-seventh-heaven-Cover-Art.jpg

Last year we had Kyrah with her icy, Goldfrappian beats and peak Katy Perry'd melodies (her words, definitely not mine) this year we have HYRA, who's taking it so far back to 2011 that she decided to straight up rip off the Femme Fatale bonus tracks. Good thing that's Britney's best album!

68. Hüg - Logic in a Paradox

spacer.png

A dancey, kind of glitchy Drum and Bass bop. Pinkpantheress... you've been finished. Excited for him to finally drop more singles on streaming...

67. HYD - So Clear

spacer.png

A lot of people seemed to hate this album which... fair, I suppose? The vocals are an acquired taste to say the least. But once you make an adjustment, the music slaps. SOPHIE had such a knack for her production in poppier songs (Vroom Vroom, When I Rule the World, Mutual Friends etc etc.) and I would've loved that pop album from her she was supposed to make. At least we're getting a tribute one next year

66. Metric - False Dichotomy

spacer.png

Quite a massive shock to me! I had forgotten how good they used to be and didn't realize they still had it. Equally ravey and rockish, their best song in years

65. Weyes Blood - Twin Flame

spacer.png

Too low maybe? But she'll get her vengeance on my albums list. Easily the most unique track she's done since pivoting to Baroque Pop, Twin Flame kinda sounds like if Caroline Polachek took Beach House's instruments, then covered a song from the seventies (might not be the best comparison because I just realized she did a similar thing for the Minions soundtrack). Every song on And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow is great, but I wanna shout out Grapevine, the title track, and the opener (which grew on me immensely!) as some other highlights

64. Blushing - Sour Punch

spacer.png

Charly Bliss but Shoegaze (ALSO WHERE IS CHARLY BLISS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO COME BACK)

63. Momma - Speeding 72

spacer.png

Liz Phair tributes are always something I can get behind, and going for the more cheery pop bangers of her career like Supernova are naturally gonna be my faves!

62. Kim Petras - Throat Goat

spacer.png

I'm gonna get dragged lmao but **** Pop wasn't that bad? I hated the first two songs but everything else bangs, especially this and XXX (I say it a lot, but I love a Slayyyter/Ayesha tribute). Goat sound effects elevate this to A-tier

61. Doja Cat - Celebrity Skin

spacer.png

Almost leans on parody at times but it's so catchy and replayable omg?! Amazing cover of a classic

60. tripleS / Acid Angels from Asia - Generation

spacer.png

K-Pop groups get sons quick huh... Shout Out to Attention (Also the fact they disbanded right after debuting :cri:)

59. Florence + The Machine - Heaven is Here

spacer.png

Dance Fever wasn't a full return to form or anything, but certainly an upgrade from the snoozefest she dropped in 2018. I also LOVE Free but I had to highlight this one because it's more underrated and really captures the sound her audience actually thinks she's making (Witch Folk or whatever tf)

58. Uffie - Anna Jetson

uffie-sunshine-factory-Cover-Art.jpg

First of all, major grower album, it just hit me recently. Her debut still outsold but I encourage anyone underwhelmed by her comeback to revisit. Anna Jetson however was an instant hit for me! Waiting until after the genre you pioneered dies to fully partake in it is a power move I think?

57. Wet Leg - Wet Dream

spacer.png

From 2021 but whatevs I didn't listen to these industry plants until 2022 anyway. What a FUN track, there's so much miserable and boring Indie "Rock" nowadays (Boygenius is trying to convince you it's the worst genre ever) and Wet Leg were a nice change of pace for me

56. Sobs - Air Guitar

spacer.png

While we're on the topic of fun Indie Rock! Great, consistent album. If you need an introduction check out their cover of Gwen Stefani's "Cool" that's on there!

55. Beyoncé - All Up In Your Mind

spacer.png

What a song. I never would've expected Bey to dabble in this kind of sound, but WHEW, I'm so grateful she did. Just like with Weyes, she'll be much higher on my albums list. My other faves are America Has a Problem, Virgo's Groove and Break My Soul btw :heart2:

54. Lexie Liu - Magician

spacer.png

Very late entry, I literally added it today lol but it blew me away so hard on first listen I had to put it here. This is how you make early 2010's Electropop sound FRESH

53. CryALot - Hell is Here

spacer.png

Icarus was really cool, albeit her voice is a little too British for some of the sounds she attempted, with this song easily being the highlight. Cutesy vocals + heavy instrumental = instant A+ (this is me asking for recs)

52. Katy J Pearson - Alligator

katy-j-pearson-alligator-Cover-Art.jpg

I don't know how else to describe this song or anything else by her other than... Indie. Like, all of the styles

51. Charli XCX - Constant Repeat

spacer.png

Final song in the update for a reason, I have **** to SAY. Plenty of y'all know how hard I used to stan Charli, I love all of her projects up to before Crash (with Pop 2/XCX World/True Romance being my trinity with HIFN a close fourth, and self-titled previously being her worst) but this album... it's just not great. CUTE, sure. But there's a couple songs that are indescribably annoying and quite a few others that are totally mid. Really put me off from her earlier in the year, even though I was generally disappointed by the singles and knew it was coming :( Constant Repeat, along with Baby and the title track, are easy highlights here and do a great job exploring the sound she was toying around with, so props to my fave on that

Any Shape You Take is incredible and was my AOTY! The combination of the grit and rough around the edges style of delivery, lyricism, and production makes one of the most interesting and long-lasting indie rock albums in recent memory. There's something about that album that is equal parts haunting, raw, and reassuring. It feels a bit like someone is just spilling out their inner-most feelings - the good and the bad, and you're just there to listen. A RARE songwriter tbh.

Troubled Paradise has grown to be my favourite Slayyyter release. I feel like the mixtape was such an exciting introduction and debut, but TP kind of polishes the sound and you end up with a Pop2 moment where it's just a really strong and creative pop album. Daddy's Home, Kick II, and Sensational are also all great albums for very different reasons. The grower of the year, the complex electronic AOTY, and the chilled out but interesting R&B album of the year. (Jessie Ware you are NOTHING!). Erika really teaches a masterclass in how to make an album that is pleasantly enjoyable and relaxing without being dreary and reductive (like how are you making a disco inspired album and it sounds like literal nothing?).

Magdalena Bay tumbling down is also a bit satisfying :fan:

Songs list is excellent ofc. I like basically everything, and yes, sadly, I have gone from major hater to casual enjoyer of SOME Caroline songs. Bunny is definitely one of her best. But enough about that screaming fraud, we need to focus on YEULE HAVING THE BEST SONG OF ALL TIME (and aespa, queens...)

Worst of comment coming soon...

ROISIN WORST ARTIST EVER

Anyway, I feel like we have a lot of the same worst so I'll keep this one brief but... Psy really had his expectations in the gutter and somehow did worse so.. yeah. Panic!/that racist loser Brendon Urie need to retire or something else, it's been enough, Joji also a flop.

Camila really followed her best album with that... :rip: I'm also pretty open-minded with pop stars but Familia feels so inconsistent and unnecessary. I feel like she probably could've done something interesting with the concept but you end up with the most generic and lifeless vaguely Latin inspired music. It's hilarious how the standouts are the ones that feel like just generic pop songs. We need Romance back.

I agree re: the awful Tik Tok core/Spotify playlist residents like Madeline or Tove. And the K-Pop picks are good too. I think 2022 was a good lesson that while K-Pop is usually enjoyable, the groups that have no identity or make their identity just screaming at you really are some of the worst modern musical acts out there.

070 Shake is just exhausting. I need people as a collective to understand that poorly atmospheric nothingness over art gallery beats is not really worth anything. Especially when it's just one song over and over. Get a new shtick! Caroline shut up!

Everything you said is SO TRUE but I can't expect anything else from you bestie... thanks for the in-depth comments and reading everything :zany2:

Tove Styrke's Hard was super disappointing. The entire first half of the album is complete garbage, but I think it picked up with Hardcore and from there forward. Honestly could've released an EP with just the last 5 tracks. Bruises is definitely a standout track though, glad we agree. :clap3:

Yeah LOL I liked a lot of her previous stuff so idk what happened

i think a lot of charli fans disillusioned with the crash era will come around to it! That’s all I’ll say on that!

I had no idea Acid Angel disbanded noooo they were like a Yassified Newjeans.  :cries:

Hell is here (sadly agree w ur description of the EP), Friday Night, antifragile, all future classics.  Also not my fave uffie / bey picks but I’ll take it :clap3:

StayC really, truly, had the most ups and downs year I've experienced for a K-Pop group in years. Honestly, it's a similar case to aespa where these new groups have one semi disappointing moment and everyone forgets they ever conquered the genre. Young Luv (honestly the whole EP) is a good example of that because it really was one of the best K-Pop releases for the first third of the year. Glad they're on this list!

Anti-Fragile basically HAS to be in the conversation if we're talking excellence in K-Pop this year. Isabella queen...

But out of the K-Pop this update my biggest accolade HAS to go to Generation. The NewJeans-ification is the best thing we could ask for and I can't wait to hear more from this project. That song is the purest reason of why I love K-Pop in the first place. Very few pop songs manage to capture the sheer feeling of joy as that does.

Lastly, All Up In Your Mind is a brilliant pick. I also was not expecting a song like that from her but I truly think every mpg needs to meet up with AG Cook at least once...

Twin Flame, Celebrity Skin (!! I forgot all about this but I do love it, and want MORE pop rock from her), Magician, and Hell Is Here are the final highlights from me!

The way I completely missed Uffie releasing a new album. :gaycat6:

Lexie Liu's MAGICIAN is SO 2010s electropop, and if you were to replicate that sound and make it modern, MAGICIAN does a good job. But I feel like despite me liking the song, 2010s electropop is so dated and grating to me that I can't fully embrace the song either if that makes sense haha. 2010s electropop did NOT age well and a modern take is just slightly better.

Very late entry, I literally added it today lol but it blew me away so hard on first listen I had to put it here. This is how you make early 2010's Electropop sound FRESH

53. CryALot - Hell is Here

Icarus was really cool, albeit her voice is a little too British for some of the sounds she attempted, with this song easily being the highlight. Cutesy vocals + heavy instrumental = instant A+ (this is me asking for recs)

52. Katy J Pearson - Alligator

I don't know how else to describe this song or anything else by her other than... Indie. Like, all of the styles

51. Charli XCX - Constant Repeat

I pretty much have listened to all of these except for Blushing, Metric and Katy J Pearson!

I tried to listen to the HYD album but it just wasn't for me unfortunately x

Love the Kpop picks here especially STAYC and TripleS (i dont think theyre disbanded yet? maybe the unit is just dissolved?)

Celebrity Skin was actually such a solid cover I wasn't expecting it.

Seventh Heaven is the absolute worst of 2010s trashy pop but she somehow makes it WORK

I need to listen to Metric, haven't heard them in years

Constant Repeat the best song on Crash mega spill. :clap3:I got turned off Charli this era too tbh, but that's also because she cancelled my tour date lol

You are literally serving me with these picks

Familia slander is only seen by non-Spanish speakers. If you understand its influences and her background + are latino it is a solid album
