Sanguine Posted December 8, 2022 Author Posted December 8, 2022 2021 RECAP ALBUMS 1. Spellling - The Turning Wheel (=) One of my fave albums ever completely entrancing and beautiful Faves: Turning Wheel, Always, Emperor With an Egg, Queen of Wands, Boys at School Least Fave: Revolution 2. Indigo de Souza - Any Shape You Take (=) My most played album of 2021, was soo close to taking the spot as it's very dear to my heart, but Pretty Pictures prevents it! Faves: Kill Me, Darker Than Death, Real Pain, Die/Cry, Way Out Least Fave: Pretty Pictures 3. Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee (=) Immaculately crafted and a major grower for me, I was extremely underwhelmed on my initial listen and then it just clicked months later Faves: Sit, Savage Good Boy, Posing for Cars, Komoko IN, Paprika Least Fave: In Hell 4. Slayyyter - Troubled Paradise (=) Full of bops and pretty underrated. Her mixtape may be a little better for now (it's one of my 2019 AOTYs) but this just about holds up Faves: Letters, Villain, Self Destruct, Cowboys, Over This! Least Fave: Clouds 5. St. Vincent - Daddy’s Home (=) This is in her top three albums, idc! Consistently pleasant and pretty although LITD is soooo overrated omg Faves: The Laughing Man, ...At The Holiday Party, The Melting of the Sun, My Baby Wants a Baby, Somebody Like Me Least Fave: Live in the Dream 6. Remi Wolf - Juno (+3) Head to toe bangers, I regretted not moving it a little higher last year because it had longevity for me and I enjoy every song Faves: Sally, Liquor Store, Wyd, Street You Live On, Buzz Me In Least Fave: Front Tooth 7. Pearl Charles - Magic Mirror (=) One of the few albums from the DRY beginning of 2021 that held up! Not sure why this captivated me so much when it didn't seem to for many others but early seventies Soft Rock was just hitting last year huh Faves: Don't Feel Like Myself, Only For Tonight, All The Way, Sweet Sunshine Wine, What I Need Least Fave: Take Your Time 8. Arca - Kick II (+68) I initially had this really high, then as the other Kicks dropped, became a mindless sheep and agreed that III and IIIII were better, dropping it significantly (evidently). I'm back to apologize for my mistakes... THIS IS THE BEST ONE AND YOU HATERS CAN SUFFER. Perfect combination of bangers and more experimental tracks, and no Sia didn't ruin it she snapped idk... Faves: Prada, Born Yesterday, Rakata, Doña, Lethargy Least Fave: Femme 9. Erika de Casier - Sensational (-1) What's not to like here? Early 2000's-style R&B is the best R&B. Rip off Cassie next queen! Faves: Busy, Polite, Better Than That, Someone to Chill With, No Butterflies No Nothing Least Fave: Ignore Me 10. Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World (-4) My relationship with this is complicated. Used to be very meh on them bar Live 4ever, then stanned this hard, then swore it grew off me (I do still think the rollout had the perfect buildup into everyone thinking it was gonna be the best album ever which resulted in a slight overhype) but nah it still slaps besides the deluxe tracks which I am not counting It did fall a bit though, but held on just enough to keep a spot in my top ten, blocking DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ who was in this spot last year Faves: Follow the Leader, Something for Two, You Lose, Domino, Dreamcatching Least Fave: Chaeri (I blame the Games section for this) SONGS 1. Yeule - Don’t Be So Hard On Your Own Beauty Best song of all time? Maybe so. 2. Ethel Cain - Crush I listened to Ethel a bit last year before she got Lanafied but was never fully into her - in 2022, her music really CLICKED. This is a perfect song 3. Doss - Strawberry Simply some of the best sound design ever here. She did so much with so little words... 4. Aespa - Savage Preferred Next Level and Yeppi Yeppi before but now I'm more of a Savage gay. Simply epic and transcendental 5. Caroline Polachek - Bunny is a Rider Kjhgdghjsk so anyone who knows me knows I used to REALLY dislike her. But after finding out Woe by Shygirl sampled this (SOTY) I had to revisit and that hook is incredible. I mean yes, it does sort of sound like Shape of You, but it ate. Desire will be AOTY 2023 and this is her best song btw 6. Laura Les - Haunted I like 100 Gecs a fair amount but if this is the kind of music she's making solo, she needs to stay solo. Alice Glass take notes. The length is perfect and makes it easily loopable 7. Indigo de Souza - Kill Me Debated between Darker and Death/this but something about Kill Me is so defeated yet so triumphant, it truly represents the spirit of the album 8. Illuminati Hotties - MMMOOOAAAAAYAYA Nutty ass bop, last year's album was her worst imo (still good) but this could very well be her best song 9. Magdalena Bay - Follow the Leader If you get it you get it 10. Youha - Abittipsy Second best K-Pop song of 2021! I like Sunmi - Siren and Pporappippam are tens, but Youha really came in and swooped up her whole audience starting with this, and we love her for it Also shoutout to: Addison Rae - Obsessed Best song ever and I've been preaching since the month it came out that her music slaps And Platinum by Miss Madeline too omg........ so many songs I wanna mention
Sanguine Posted December 8, 2022 Author Posted December 8, 2022 (edited) WORST OF 2022 This **** stinks! Psy - Psy 9th I am a very forgiving and warmhearted person. I didn't think there could be such an album where every single song is a 1/10, but here it is! Panic at the Disco - Viva Las Vengeance If you listened to this, surely you know why it's here, right? RIGHT? Tove Styrke - Hard Heard this without paying attention once and it was whatever, then revisited and realized this album ******* SUCKS! I liked her first two albums and Sway was okay ig, but this is just horrible. Hardcore is W-SOTY. Bruises ate tho ngl Alexandra Stan - Rainbows It's an Alexandra Stan album in 2022. But Inna had multiple albums this year and neither made my worst list so... do better Stray Kids - Oddinary It's Stray Kids in general Imagine Dragons - Imagine Act I and II Why did I even listen to this Röyksopp - Profound Mysteries Reminded me of Roisin Murphy who is my musical archnemesis Madeline the Person - Chapter 3: The Burning Annoying TikTokcore zzzz King Hannah - I'm Not Sorry, I Was Just Being Me Vocals really took me out of the experience and made this unlistenable personally... but I listened to their EP and kinda liked it so I should probably re-evaluate Joji - Smithereens I take it back, Joji is my musical archnemesis The Weather Station - How Is It That I Should Look at the Stars Nothing I can say about this that hasn't already been said, we all know it's one long song TXT - Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child It takes a lot for K-Pop to be BAD for me (btw Born Pink was almost on my worst list but the Nadia Oh'd banger Pink Venom saves it) usually it needs to be super noisy and annoying (Itzy) or super boring (Heize) for me to think wow, this **** is ass. And wow, this **** is ass from both directions Silkback - Condense Idr why I hated this so much LOL I guess it was just really annoying to listen to? But the Aespa reference SLAYYYY CLASS:y - Day and Night Well it made me laugh so there's that. I love how this group's entire identity is ripping off other groups, and they got to the um... more interesting section of songs to rip off with this one carolesdaughter - Please Put Me in a Medically Induced Coma Speaks for itself Camila Cabello - Familia Bam Bam is a BOP idc... but most of this is really awful. Romance remains her best album and would be regarded as good if the racism scandal hadn't peaked the same week :hi: Blogueirinha - Quem me conhece sabe I hate all non-Crazy Ex-Girlfriend musical comedy 070 Shake - You Can’t Kill Me Stay might be my W-SOTY, I had a physical reaction to it (which is a good thing! Love a hard pan) Javiera Mena - Nocturna Pleaseeee go back to Twee Pop, I beg as she releases an entire decade of Eurovision rejects ITZY - CHECKMATE I was never an Itzy HATER per se... but I might be one now Perfume Genius... - it's not Worst Of material but I'm putting it here since I'm disappointed I didn't get to pan it harder! His best album but still pretty mid. I liked the Xiu Xiu-sounding song Edited December 8, 2022 by Sanguine
Sanguine Posted December 8, 2022 Author Posted December 8, 2022 Oh Black Country New Road sucked too sorry
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 8, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted December 8, 2022 Not Rosin catching a stray the Tove Styrke album was sooooo terrible. Her status as the superior tove was revoked and I’m a Tove Lo hater! one of these albums made my top10 and it’s not PG

wish Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 7. Indigo de Souza - Kill Me WAIT i love this song so much not mad at your Worst Of either nn
smholiv Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Any Shape You Take is incredible and was my AOTY! The combination of the grit and rough around the edges style of delivery, lyricism, and production makes one of the most interesting and long-lasting indie rock albums in recent memory. There's something about that album that is equal parts haunting, raw, and reassuring. It feels a bit like someone is just spilling out their inner-most feelings - the good and the bad, and you're just there to listen. A RARE songwriter tbh. Troubled Paradise has grown to be my favourite Slayyyter release. I feel like the mixtape was such an exciting introduction and debut, but TP kind of polishes the sound and you end up with a Pop2 moment where it's just a really strong and creative pop album. Daddy's Home, Kick II, and Sensational are also all great albums for very different reasons. The grower of the year, the complex electronic AOTY, and the chilled out but interesting R&B album of the year. (Jessie Ware you are NOTHING!). Erika really teaches a masterclass in how to make an album that is pleasantly enjoyable and relaxing without being dreary and reductive (like how are you making a disco inspired album and it sounds like literal nothing?). Magdalena Bay tumbling down is also a bit satisfying Songs list is excellent ofc. I like basically everything, and yes, sadly, I have gone from major hater to casual enjoyer of SOME Caroline songs. Bunny is definitely one of her best. But enough about that screaming fraud, we need to focus on YEULE HAVING THE BEST SONG OF ALL TIME (and aespa, queens...) Worst of comment coming soon...
smholiv Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 ROISIN WORST ARTIST EVER Anyway, I feel like we have a lot of the same worst so I'll keep this one brief but... Psy really had his expectations in the gutter and somehow did worse so.. yeah. Panic!/that racist loser Brendon Urie need to retire or something else, it's been enough, Joji also a flop. Camila really followed her best album with that... I'm also pretty open-minded with pop stars but Familia feels so inconsistent and unnecessary. I feel like she probably could've done something interesting with the concept but you end up with the most generic and lifeless vaguely Latin inspired music. It's hilarious how the standouts are the ones that feel like just generic pop songs. We need Romance back. I agree re: the awful Tik Tok core/Spotify playlist residents like Madeline or Tove. And the K-Pop picks are good too. I think 2022 was a good lesson that while K-Pop is usually enjoyable, the groups that have no identity or make their identity just screaming at you really are some of the worst modern musical acts out there. 070 Shake is just exhausting. I need people as a collective to understand that poorly atmospheric nothingness over art gallery beats is not really worth anything. Especially when it's just one song over and over. Get a new shtick! Caroline shut up!
Album Leak Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Tove Styrke's Hard was super disappointing. The entire first half of the album is complete garbage, but I think it picked up with Hardcore and from there forward. Honestly could've released an EP with just the last 5 tracks. Bruises is definitely a standout track though, glad we agree.

The k-pop albums on that list are truly terrible.
Alldeezy Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Only album I've heard is Camillas and I agree only songs that I loved were quiet and psychofreak the rest was forgettable
