MP2K Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Word on the street is that Boomerang inspired Renaissance I just discovered it this year after a long Dawn hiatus for no real reason.

TheWayWeWere Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 I love like... half of HTG.. but overall it's a bit all over the place, Idk, I still think her best work was first EP
Remmy Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 2021 Recap~ So Mean, This Enchanted, You asked for this, Oxytocin, Thot ****, Down, Eyes Closed, You Lose!, Bouncin. "Yes I still think Poppy is good, although she's back to being uncool I guess." Unfortunately true Amber and Abel missing the main list, welp But Rina starting us off Her album is great, and period @ the Paradisin' shoutout, still my favorite from her. Imagining in your trinity The Sobs album was nice, never heard of them before this. It's hard for me to hate on an artist that is able to do Cool justice. "There’s even [...] a song with a DnB outro for no reasons." One of my favorite parts!
Sanguine Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 You are so right for your Rina writeup and don't let anybody tell you otherwise, extremely overhated album besides Minor Feelings and To Be Alive which are ass A few albums here are pretty cute to me but I was slightly underwhelmed by (Cate, Coco/Clair Clair), though Amor Hardcore and Air Guitar are great. Charly Bliss x Beabadoobee is accurate and probably the reason I love it so much
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Pompeii, Un Verano Sin Ti & Once Twice Melody are one of the best albums this year period Also i agree, OTW's disc 3 is the superior one! Hod the Girl is good but compare to Sawayama is such a drastic downgrade imo. Rina is in her "mainstream pop" era it seems and that's okay for me I didn't know Isabella released new album this year. Let me check it out real quick
Wicked Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 I feel like El Ultimo is more versatile and for some reason it gets completely skipped over, but he did drop another good album this year so. I'm a Beach House hater so.
TrueBlood Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Both Hold the Girl and Once Twice Melody are brilliant record, the latter way more than the former. And interestingly enough, they both have in common the fact that I was expecting more from them after their previous records (SAWAYAMA is one of the most impressive debut of the decade, while 7 is imo their most beautiful record). Once Twice Melody could have been cut of a few tracks and it could have easily surpassed 7 in my eyes, it is at times simply too overwhelming as a whole.

I know I'm really sad about how it went, but I think her album shows she still has it, though I wish she had more rock sounding songs rather than just the closer. On 12/9/2022 at 5:32 PM, Sanguine said: Fair, girl groups can hardly even get full albums out nowadays and when they do (Blackpink, G-Idle, etc.) they're not that great let alone three amazing ones in a row Nice 2021 albums list and yeah Poppy is still good, I feel like lots switched back on her after the EP this year but wasn't it just some rejects anyway? Like who cares lol she'll be back with something better soon enough Most of these are fitting for HMs but Willow and especially Beabadoobee deserved better!! I LOOOOVE Beatopia OMG were BP/GI the only gg to give us an LP this year?? Ok, no, we got Oh My Girl and Dreamcatcher. OMG's was probably the best we're gonna get nowadays so that's why I put it. DC's was good... for a kpop LP, but even then, their 2020 LP was better! The poppy EP was def screaming scraps. It's fine, tho... I'll live with it. On 12/10/2022 at 2:36 AM, TheWayWeWere said: Dawn talent remains underrated for another year I flopped with her new album as well, but it has some great songs Eyes Closed > Hot n Heavy tbh Willow deserved main list Steve's album was not my tea, but Bad Habit I liked Willow's album a lot but only heard it like twice, so that reallly hurt her. I'm kinda shook at her booking Yves Tumor. My friend saw her live and said she was really drunk the entire time On 12/10/2022 at 4:28 AM, theblackestday said: Top of 2021 is very you (complimentary) Great HMs, most of them make sense as that. Well I would hope its very me... its my list! 22 hours ago, K$Ellie said: Savage in the top 3 last year truly a MOMENT for kpop, Next Level too agree about Oxytocin being Billie's best song, the last chorus alone >>> Flux is so underrated and slightly better than I Disagree tbh Halsey, Magdalena, St Vincent and Erika were in my top 10 too I think ID is better, in that the highlights are 100/10, but Flux is better front to back. Both excellent! 16 hours ago, Legend E said: 2021 maybe snapped a bit! Posing in Bondage, You Asked for This, Oxytocin, Church Girl, Bouncin yup yup Three Dimensions Deep, Beatopia and Dawn FM deserved to be a bit higher! To be fair, those 3 were def... closer to reaching the top 50 than others 15 hours ago, TRF. said: Isabella and Villana latina queens alongside La Coneja Mala! Also the Coco and Clair Clair record was cute! Def feel like they could become something great really soon, rooting for them. Also Beach House and Gilla Band obv C&CC definitely have a lot of room to grow but I enjoyed the sorta lazy lo-fi tumblr sound. At least, for this record. If they serve it again I'm going to be let down. I'm so happy for you & your VIllana promo Lemme spam her everywhere. 13 hours ago, MP2K said: Word on the street is that Boomerang inspired Renaissance I just discovered it this year after a long Dawn hiatus for no real reason. 11 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: I love like... half of HTG.. but overall it's a bit all over the place, Idk, I still think her best work was first EP I totally agree RINA EP is her best release so far. I feel the same way about Sawayama the way you feel about HTG. I love love love the good songs but there are misses. 10 hours ago, Remmy said: 2021 Recap~ So Mean, This Enchanted, You asked for this, Oxytocin, Thot ****, Down, Eyes Closed, You Lose!, Bouncin. I know you are a Bea stan now! The album was good but i think it had like too many songs, anyway you'll see her on my songs list that's for sure 7 hours ago, Mr. Blue_Shirt said: Pompeii, Un Verano Sin Ti & Once Twice Melody are one of the best albums this year period Also i agree, OTW's disc 3 is the superior one! El Ultimo is def one-listen for me so I'll have to revisit (I think it came too soon after a previous hit album maybe?) but I do listen to the Abra song a lot, where are you my queen? I used to kinda be meh on them but I saw them live and it all kinda hit for me. 2 hours ago, TrueBlood said: Both Hold the Girl and Once Twice Melody are brilliant record, the latter way more than the former. OTM listening front to back is so exhausting. 18 BH songs in general, but especially these Still good though. I'm surprised Sawayama is your favorite debut, I thought you were a MB stan!

theblackestday Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Love all of the albums in this batch, except the horrendous Rina and BH albums (never thought I'd lump them together)
Chamoy Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 The Kitty shoutout. She's mother to a lot of these girlies!

Those were fine but I agree. My favorite was probably Apink’s, which I think was panned lmao. The last LP I’ve LOVED out of K-Pop was probably…….. Soul Lady oh well at least we get plenty of quality EPs
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 12, 2022 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2022 40) Leikeli47 - Shape Up (Hip-House, Hip-Hop) Best tracks: BITM, LL Cool J, Jay Walk She had been taking quite a long break in my opinion but returned with what’s possibly her best, and most centered project. It’s about 75% hip hop bangers, 25% smooth R&B, and I love both sides, though I appreciate the ratio. I think she’s a really underrated artist, so I was happy to see this release get a good amount of positive reviews! There’s even a song with miss Jay Alexander which is definitely a highlight. 39) M.I.A. - Mata (Hip-Hop, Dance Pop) Best tracks: Zoo Girl, 100% Sustainable, Puthini Ahh… sorry, I have no excuse for her behavior but this is just so full of bops that I can’t not put it on here. It’s definitely a huge huge improvement from AIM, and pretty much theres maybe one weak track at most? I was kind of confused by the singles choices IMO because there’s way better selections. 38) Zola Jesus - Arkhon (Darkwave, Art Pop) Best tracks: Sewn, Lost, The Fall To me, this is actually an improvement from her last album which was heavily carried by the singles. She proves that she’s still got it, even when she was previously considering retirement. Got lots of good hooks and good vocals too, though the vocals on Desire are very controversial I support. I love how a lot of the songs build slowly into explosive powerful hooks. 37) Ari Lennox - age/sex/location (Neo Soul, R&B) Best tracks: POF, Queen Space, Hoodie I don’t know if this album is better than her debut yet, but I definitely was more on the Ari-train when it was released, so it definitely got more immediate attention. I really think she’s such a strong songwriter and such an evocative lyricist. 36) Vitesse X - Us Ephemeral (Trance, Drum n Bass, Dance Pop) Best tracks: Activation, Repress Reprise, Us Ephemeral) I don’t really know who recommended this to me, but whoever did, thank you! She’s the future it pop girl for me. Someone hire her to produce for Slayyyter or soemething! 35) Sasami - Squeeze (Indie rock, Twee, Nu-metal) Best tracks: Say It, Sorry Entertainer, Tried to Understand) I think this is one of the strongest artistic leaps in recent years. I can’t believe this is the same artist who released her debut. All over the place in the best way, perfect nu-metal throwback moments while taking from all the best indie rock influences, shoutout to the best Liz Phair impersonation song I’ve heard (TTU). 34) Yeule - Glitch Princess (Electropop, Ambient Pop, Synth-Pop) Best tracks: Bites on my Neck, Too Dead Inside, I <3 U Yeule completely rewrote the rules of pop with her debut. Half of the album are somber meditations about depression and suicidal feelings with slow and bjorkian melodies, and the second half is full of amazing bangers that sound like Grimes on cocaine! I love both sides of the album. Theres a 5 hour ambient track at the end, you can ignore it. 33) Akini Jing - 永无止境的告别 (Glitch Pop, Mandopop, Drum-n-bass Best tracks: (Don’t Wanna Be In Love, Blessing, Endless Farewell) This is seriously one of the most underrated releases of the year. Listen to it! Especially if you want some underrated quirky bops, it’s got lots of them. 32) Caroline Loveglow - Strawberry (Dream Pop, Synth Pop) Best tracks: Foxy, Strawberry, Happy Happy She opened for Hatchie this year and I saw her live, great discovery! She definitely lipsynced, but that’s ok. Her songs are that good synthy dreampop vibe but a little grittier at points. 31) Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia (Post-Punk, Indie Rock) Best tracks: Skinty Fia, Jackie Down the Line, Big Shot They give me the drugged up early 00s post-punk libertines era music, I really like it.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 MATA is full of questionable music choices, but it had some great bops Zoo Girl is the best I agree
theblackestday Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 tw // camessay As with the previous batch, I love all of these albums too (I'd say i'm surprised but i know who you are). Only don't know THE Vitesse X album, which I'll make sure to check out asap. Leikeli47 deserves more attention. I do think she's capable of something much bigger and better. Mata was surprisingly good considering the questionable singles, definitely an improvement over AIM. I'd have probably returned to it more if it wasn't for her desperate attempts at getting attention during its release cycle so it had to have been ignored eventually
Sanguine Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 I like everything in this set besides Akini (haven't heard but it's been on my list for ages) and Fontaines DC which I just didn't have enough interest in but they were the first song on my Spotify Wrapped "Missed Hits" playlist ffff I agree that Sasami's album was MUCH better than the last one which was such a snoozefest. Don't agree with Zola but I do think it almost holds up next to Okovi, the songwriting feels almost unintentionally poppier, like she said that she was struggling with writer's block and you can kinda tell Caroline and Yeule are amazing and should be higher!
BlackoutZone Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 The last years tops were truly so well rounded, love them And you kicked off with solid start, kinda mad Dawn FM and Skyline by Bronze are just HMs, but as long as they get some recognition! Love how Caroline Loveglow was like a +1 discovery for everyone listening to Hatchie this year
Polgg48 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 33) Akini Jing - 永无止境的告别 (Glitch Pop, Mandopop, Drum-n-bass - love her album 35) Sasami - Squeeze (Indie rock, Twee, Nu-metal) - innovative and bops 36) Vitesse X - Us Ephemeral (Trance, Drum n Bass, Dance Pop) - what a serve, deserve more shoutout for her
MP2K Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I always love a good Leikeli47 single but always never check her albums out, so if you think it's her best work I believe you and will try. Ari L is always great too. I feel like I will like Caroline Loveglow so I will check out.
Alldeezy Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 haven't heard these but really want to, I love the covers for them all too Giving me Poppy/Grimes fibes
TalkThatRihanna Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Willow’s album was so good HTG was cute too
