Let's take a trip down memory lane and revisit my 2021 lists, and I will reminisce if I still claim these choices / stand by my decision or if I regret anything!

My top 25 songs of the year were

25)  Japanese Breakfast - Posing in Bondage

Hm, I stand by a JB pick, I think if I were to do it again, I'd pick Slide Tackle!  I don't know why I didn't, was feeling frisky idk.

24) Dawn Richard - "Boomerang"

I stand by this song so hard, been listening to Dawn a lot and I kinda flopped with her new project but it's good.

23) Poppy - "So Mean"

Yes I still think Poppy is good, although she's back to being uncool I guess.

22) Red Velvet - "Pose"

They released better songs this year tbh, but it was nice to get a f(x) imitation...

21) Hatchie - "This Enchanted"

Hatchie really upped her game from her debut with this lead single, and with her album.  There are better tracks on the album too, though this would be top 5 for sure.

20) LSDXOXO - "The Devil"

The way he released amazing amazing songs last year and I don't really like any of his stuff this year aside from one remix.  RIP!  Maybe next year!

19) Peggy Gou - "I Go"

I still bop to this.  She's one of those artists who's quality over quantity even if she makes you wait 4 years for one song.

18) Halsey - "You Asked For This"

Yeah, this is easily her best song still.  Some of the rest of the album has aged, but not this, never this one.

17) Illuminati Hotties - "MMMMOOOYYYYYA"

SUCH A GOOD HOOK, this is what more indie rock girlies need to deliver.

16) Billie Eilish - "Oxytocin"

I think that Billie really proved that she's a 'serious artist' last year as annoying it is to say that about pop stars.  I just think she evolved leaps and bounds, plus this is her best song.

15) Laura Mvula - "Church Girl"

I honestly think this is definitely the best post-WYP disco revival song.  She made it her own.

14) Yves Tumor - "Jackie"

Their best song!  Didn't know they would top Noid but they went ahead and did it.

13) Yukika - "Loving You"

Yukika's droplets era is kind of surpassing her debut album, for me at least.  She continues to impress this year with a couple songs.  This song is pretty much the cream of the crop from her, though.

12) Megan Thee Stallion - "Thot Shit"

She, sadly, did not top this song this year.  I need this kinda bop again from her.

11) Slayyyter - "Cowboys"

A better Sleigh Bells imitation than sleigh bells did last year :clap3:

10) Javiera Mena - "Culpa"

Honestly, queen of lesbian pop!

09) St. Vincent - "Down"

I still think this is top1 on Daddy's Home!  I wish more of the album was like it.

08) Jessie Ware - "Eyes Closed"

Maybe Hot n Heavy is better?  I'm not sure, regardless, WYP extended tracks deserve a top 10 spot.

07) Erika De Casier - "Busy"

This is her best song, I might even put it in a higher position this year, it's THAT good.  I also saw her live front row so that helps.

06) Doss - "Strawberry"

DOSS IS AMAZING and she managed to release an amazing companion remix EP this year.

05) Magdalena Bay - "You Lose!"

I was really into synthy dance shoegaze type tracks last year apparently. I think this is still their best song and they were the best ""new"" pop act last year.

04) Tinashe - "Bouncin"

This is her best song, this is one song that you hear and you just know it will go down as a timeless classic.

03) Aespa - "Savage"

No Kpop song this year surpassed this masterpiece, sadly they flopped this year hard, so they probably are over.

02) City Girls - "Twerkulator"

WE NEED A LP!!

01) Kero Kero Bonito - "Well Rested"

Although 2021 is def the weakest of the 3 years this decade, this is still SOTD for me.

Overall I stand by my top 25 songs last year.  I think my songs list last year was way better than the albums list, so we'll see that soon, lol.

Love so many of these choices :smitten: Savage and Strawberry were in my top ten too! I'm hoping Aespa aren't over but yeah... they had so much potential but I don't think any GG will ever top f(x) for me

You Lose, Busy, Cowboys, Jackie, Church Girl, Mmmooo, This Enchanted and Posing in Bondage are my other faves <3

TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021

10) Lealani & Snakefoot - Lealani Snakefoot

I honestly listened to this album once this year :deadbanana: Kinda full of bops still, though.  Good quirky pop.

09) Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - Candy Racer

This still goes hard, and in this year we're still enjoying the Yasutaka Nakata renaissance era :keir:

08) Halsey - If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power

Album got old for me, definitely still enjoy the highlights, though.  I guess 2021 was a weak year where Halsey could sneak into top 10.

07) St. Vincent - Daddy's Home

Possibly the second most divisive album of her career.  The good songs are just as good as any of her best tracks, but the weaker cuts are among her worst, I'm still a delulu stan though.

06) Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee

Great album but I'm fuming at her cancelling her set a week before I was about to see her!?

05) Playboi Carti - Whole Lotta Red

Still great, a 25 track album without a lot of weak points.

04) Erika De Casier - Sensational

A worthy followup, just as good as her debut but with a laser focus, sonically speaking.

03) Poppy - Flux

I honestly think this is one of the most underrated albums ever, if only she weren't a joke artist :!ohno:

02) Tinashe - 333

I love Tinashe, this is what really made me explore her amazing discography.  It's progressive pop at its finest.

01)  Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World

Still stand by this as aoty but the way the top 3 of 2020 & 2022 kinda are better than it, wow, 2021 was weak!

F(x) are never gonna be topped.  Like I don’t even entertain the possibility of that.  Red velvets the closest we got and they’re past their prime now (that’s OK, it happens)

ive been on and off with her forever but this album is good for reminder that she still cool. yet i pressed play once, i also wish she should motivate and go on tour too, her fans obviously miss her.

Fair, girl groups can hardly even get full albums out nowadays and when they do (Blackpink, G-Idle, etc.) they're not that great :skull: let alone three amazing ones in a row

Nice 2021 albums list and yeah Poppy is still good, I feel like lots switched back on her after the EP this year but wasn't it just some rejects anyway? Like who cares lol she'll be back with something better soon enough

Most of these are fitting for HMs but Willow and especially Beabadoobee deserved better!! I LOOOOVE Beatopia :smitten:

Great HMs, most of them make sense as that.

Savage in the top 3 last year :jonny:truly a MOMENT for kpop, Next Level too

agree about Oxytocin being Billie's best song, the last chorus alone >>>

Flux is so underrated and slightly better than I Disagree tbh

Halsey, Magdalena, St Vincent and Erika were in my top 10 too :lakitu:

50)
Rina Sawayama - Hold the Girl (Pop, 10s Throwback, Dance-Pop)
Best tracks: Hold The Girl, This Hell, Imagining

Ok, here we go!  I think this album got a bit of a cold reception by her fans and it was a bit unfair.  She pulled from the Jesse McCartney, Born This Way, Hilary Duff influences as opposed to the Korn/Jpop/Britney influences of her debut.  Risky change, but overall it’s a solid album with less misses than her debut.  Nothing as good as XS/Paradising, though, so it evens out.

49)
Cate Le Bon - Pompeii (Psychedelic Pop, Chamber Pop)
Best tracks: Pompeii, French Boys, Cry Me Old Trouble

This album basically controlled my life for Q1 of 2022.  It’s just well written quirky pop that doesn’t try too hard.  Her vocals are good.

48)
Honey Dijon - Black Girl Magic (House, Dance-Pop, Deep House)
Best tracks: Love is a State of Mind, Don’t Be Afraid, In the Club

Rumor has it she’s producing for Madonna (again) and I’m here for it. This is definitely one of the strongest DJ dance albums of the year.  I honestly have not heard of most of the guest roster (except Eve !!!) but it doesn’t matter, all guests do their job.

47)
Gilla Band - Most Normal (No Wave, Post-Punk)
Best tracks: Eight Fivers, Backwash, Post Ryan

Love this late discovery.  I love anything that’s giving me early 80s gothy post punk Bauhaus vibes so this was a great discovery.  Actually, never heard of them before this but I’m glad they changed their name lol.

46)
Beach House - Once Twice Melody (Dream Pop, Synth-Pop)
Best tracks: Masquerade, Modern Love Story, Once Twice Melody

This was a really brave release strategy, and honestly I think overall it paid off since the album is better in bite size chunks than 18 straight tracks.  Btw.  Disc 3 > Disc 4 > Disc 1 > Disc 2.  Period!

45)
Isabella Lovestory - Amor Hardcore (Reggaeton, Neoperreo, Hip Hop)
Best tracks: Cherry Bomb, Exhibitionista, Fashion Freak

Isabella Lovestory is becoming one of those artists who’s on the verge of blowing up.  From a Kpop cowrite, to a pitchfork review.  She’s coming for blood, this album (which is consistent front to back) is just the beginning.  Watch out!  The singles are def the strongest tracks.

44)
Bad Bunny - Un Verano Sin Ti (Reggaeton, Hip Hop)
Best tracks: El Apagon, Ojitos Lindos, Titi Me Pregunto

This is definitely one of the albums that WOULD be higher if it weren’t so fucking long.  Props to being a 23 track album that’s still consistently good, though.  He’s definitely giving you more versatility here than he has before.

43)
Sobs - Air Guitar (Dream Pop, Power Pop, Pop Punk)
Best tracks: Friday Night, Air Guitar, LOML

This album is definitely a very good mix of Beabadoobee and Charly Bliss.  It’s got that bubblegum 90s Brit Pop energy.  There’s even a Gwen Stefani cover at the end for skeptics, and a song with a DnB outro for no reasons.

42)
Villano Antillano - Sustancia X (Hip Hop, Pop Rap)
Best tracks: Hedonismo, Poli, Hello Kitty

This is a late discover, but her Bizarrap feature made me want to immediately check out this album.  The best part about this album is that it’s bops from front to start, and extremely cohesive with an edgy hip hop sound that sometimes veers into rock, sometimes pop, but her flow is great on all tracks with memorable hooks.

41)
Coco & Clair Clair - Sexy (Pop Rap, Bedroom Pop)
Best tracks: Pop Star, Be With U, Pop 1

We haven’t had a Kitty release in a few years so this is what I’ll have to settle with.  They give me hip cool girl tumblr 2014 vibes so like if you’re into that I’d totally recommend.

Posted

Isabella and Villana :jonny5: latina queens alongside La Coneja Mala!

Also the Coco and Clair Clair record was cute! Def feel like they could become something great really soon, rooting for them. Also Beach House and Gilla Band obv :heart2:
