Everything that was said about Romania and Bulgaria, applies to Croatia too.

It's just that Croatia lobbied its way into the area. It was said on multiple occasions that both countries meet the criteria.

On top of the lobbying part it seems that the Dutch are still salty over how Bulgaria is in the Union.

No one's salty, they just want Bulgaria to meet every requirement and criterion listed fully before approving them. Nothing wrong with that, otherwise there should've been different requirements

Literally everyone including the Council of Europe agrees that the criteria is met. Miss me with that bullshit.

They're probably going easy on them cuz of Russia, over here they want every T crossed and every I dotted before approving them, so if they didn't actually require them to have done that, the requirements should've been different, simple as that

I suspect the huge refugee crisis in The Netherlands is part of why they're being so strict too tho

What even are you talking about? BG and RO have been ready to join Schengen even before the war broke out. You probably don't even know a thing or two about these countries.

Refugees enter Europe through places like Greece and Italy but NL don't make a fuss about them. It's quite clearly a populist tactic both from NL and Austria, as many have said it before here. What's not clicking?

Romania apparently is, The Netherlands didn't block them, but Bulgaria isn't. Ready means they've met every requirement and criterion, and they haven't met every single thing exactly as they should.

Where? Point me one thing.

You do realise you're literally Western European-splaining me right now? The audacity..

As if I know what the requirements are exactly and how Bulgaria has addressed them, lmao. Government's very clear that apparently we're stricter about meeting every single criterion and requirement than other countries, nothing wrong with that and no reason to get offended over. Not sure why people care so much whether they get in now or next year after they've made some further changes/improvements

That's not a thing, wtf, lmao. Just cuz you got clocked when you claimed The Netherlands isn't critical of other countries in the EU and Schengen, it's suddenly Western European-splaining? People really need to stop trying to end arguments they're losing by trying to make it look like others are doing something wrong by screaming racism, xenophobia, 'western european-splaining' (which doesn't exist), when that's not the case, it's giving Karen

B-b-b-but they still haven't fulfilled the criterium! You don't know the requirements but you're still speaking? For fucks sake, how can everyone in the EP agree on BG/RO accession? No sweetheart, it's plain populism by Rutte. That's all. Every member state had sent in a person to Bulgaria to confirm stuff, to see the progress that we've made. Do you know which country did not sent a delegaition?

Do you want to know the amount of xenophobia I have experienced while living in the Netherlands? Because I can sit here and talk about it ALL DAY. Have you ever gotten told to go back to your own country right in your face?

Typical Nederlander behaviour. Going through enormous lenghts just to be contrarian with the most braindead logic ever. It's in your blood I guess. Can't wait to graduate next year and be gone out of this place.

Croatia bought expensive french military planes, so we got schengen (we got euro too this year). Romania and Bulgaria didn't.

Croatia and Slovenia the best balkan countries, period :clap3:

As if you know, so you can't speak about the topic either. They agree cuz, as I said, they apparently don't care if they meet everything 100%, and apparently The Netherlands does, what do you not understand? The Netherlands has other issues they need to address right now, cuz we're facing/trying to solve a lot of problems, so not surprised they didn't really send a delegation, they knew what they were gonna vote.

Not sure why it bothers you so much one or two people said that to you, there's shitty xenophobic people in every country, the Dutch are just more direct/forward. Seems like you still need to get used to our culture. As per most people who come here/live here, we're one of the friendliest/most welcoming people in the world, so either you've had bad luck with the people you've met, you're letting it bother you too much, or both.

Also, yes, I've been told that, and I am white and from The Netherlands, lmao. I'm just not from the western part of the country. Not sure why they said it to you, but at least sometimes people are right when they say that to someone tho. If you move to another region or country and don't like it there and want everything to change, you are free to leave for a place that better suits you, no one's forcing you to be at that place where you don't like things.

Has nothing to do with contrarian and more with culture. Dutch have rules and regulations for everything, and they're very strict about them, unlike a lot of other European countries, especially the more southern ones, who are more easy going. Dutch were the same with Italy and Greece when they had major problems with their economy, but in the end that did help them

Council of Europe, every other EU member state: AGREES

Netherlands and Austria: DISAGREE

Out of 26 Schengen states, 24 agree. Then why are these two acting contrarian? It makes zero sense, schatje. So, why is that?

No need to go into explanation mode. It's just vitriol. If the Netherlands were so adamant about criteria and such, then why don't they provide room for discussion? But something tells me they don't want to.

I don't live in the West either. Northern part. You can probably guess the city, just don't want to doxx the name of it.

"Furthermore, according to a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Croatian stakeholders threatened to block upcoming Austrian investments into major infrastructure in the country, prompting the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO) to lobby the government to change course. It also did not hurt that the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) has extensive connections with the ÖVP, with which it shares membership of the European People’s Party (EPP)."

Bulgaria and Romania have long fulfiled the criteria for accession. Even The Coucil of Europe and Ursula agrees. The reasonings cited by the Netherlands for their block for Bulgaria are just absurd. A lot of countries in Europe have problems with corruption, why are they not held accountable? NL's PM citing high crime levels in Romania and Bulgaria is very much giving pot called the kettle black - crime level is higher in the NL. And can we talk about how pretty much all of Europe's illegal drugs enter through the Netherlands?

Right? It's so outrageous what kind of unachievable criteria the EU puts on all balkan countries when if they put those same criteria on themselves none of them would be in the EU anymore :giraffe:

Just like with everything else it's all about power and wealth projection. The NL got rich and powerful due to hundreds of years of exploitation and now are in the postion to demand ridiculous stuff from poorer and less powerful countries.

whatever, just let's more people in, Europe is already fcked anyway :rip:
