The reason why BB falls towards the bottom of my Lana ranking (along with LFL) is that it doesn’t have the same world building atmosphere that her other albums have. The songs are quality, but its sonic feel is not something I can get lost it.

The additional, but smaller, reason is that it also just has less highs than her others albums. It’s full of good songs but the only true standouts in her discog are Thunder & BBS

Blue Banisters is like a compilation album of mostly old songs re-worked no?? :gaycat5:It’s just a fun little moment for fans imo.

Tunnel is like NFR, well done, and specifically made.

BB still causing all this conversation in an album thread 2 years later for a record with 16 completely new tracks, especially when BB to begin with was a compilation comprised of almost 10 year old tracks for half the songs :clap3: who’s doing it like her? :alexz:

finally growing on me as a whole but LTLI and Molly truly disrupt the experience so bad. I'm jumping to Fishtail after Grandfather ibr

Second verse of Sweet is honestly a highlight of the album.

What you doing with your life? Do you think about it?
Do you contemplate where we came from?
Lately, we've been makin' out a lot
Not talkin' 'bout the stuff that's at the very heart of things
Do you want children? Do you wanna marry me?
Do you wanna run marathons in Long Beach by the sea?
I've got things to do like nothing at all
I wanna do them with you
Do you wanna do them with me?

Lana said herself that we shouldn't listen to BB, so I'm glad her and I are on the same page about it :ducky:

Tunnel is aging so well. My only real complaint about the album is Candy Necklace being 3 minutes too long. That long intro, middle section, and outro isn't needed. Especially since it follows and is followed by interludes. It definitely feels the most 'label forced' song since we know it was the last song recorded, it's the only one getting a video (maybe? where is it lana), and replaced another track

To be honest: I see the gripes with Blue Banisters. Personally, I don't care that she did nothing new to the unreleased songs (aside from Thunder that is) and I think as far as unreleased songs go, they were really good inclusions to an album. Living Legend, Cherry Blossom and Living Legend are a trio of god-tier Lana songs imo. They're all so moving, beautiful and filled with emotion, warmth and regret. They're perfect.

I just think the album is lacking something. I don't know what that is. People will say it's not cohesive, but I think it is cohesive. Just looking at the tracklist and thinking about each song, thematically it all makes sense to me. I don't see anything out of place or off balance.

I'd also like to say, Black Bathing Suit is really such a beautiful song. Those verses....I can really cry. They sound so heavenly, so delicate, so sure, so pure, they sound like pure bliss. The second verse gets me so emotional especially, because it's so raw and vulnerable.

Swisher Sweet, magazines, promise you it's not
'Cause of you that I'm mean, it's my afterthoughts
And what I never said, why there's a price on my head
It's nothing to do with them, it's my karmic lineage
So I'm not friends with my mother, but I still love my dad
Untraditional lover, can you handle that?

Like? How could she. It makes me so emotional because of her brave and courageous she is. I can tell it's a sensitive topic for her. For any artist to be this transparent, is so beautiful to me. She has such strength and power in her vulnerability and it continues to amaze me.

What can absolutely not to be taken away from Blue Banisters, despite whatever shortcomings, is that it definitely tells a story. It tells Lana's story up until that point, and I get it and I hear it loud and clear. Blue Banisters may feel underwhelming, but it's firmly in place, powerfully so. It's rooted and it's not moving. I really think what she set out to do with this record paid off. It tugs on your heartstrings, and begs you to empathize with each chilling vocal.

Blue Banisters is a glass of whiskey, next to the fireplace somewhere in the country, thinking and longing of someone, but still being grateful for where you are in that moment, while holding the memories tight in your mind, and wishing of what could be.

I say all that to say, never doubt Lana, her vision. She has such a powerful mind. Always welcome what it wants to give to you. :clap3:

they only hate BB because it’s her last album. the same way they hated COCC when BB came out. the same way they hated honeymoon when LFL came out. i’m tired of the narrative

Chucky was there for three out of three
I was there for the third 'cause I couldn't be
There for the one who was closest to me
But I can't say I run when things get hard
It's just that I don't trust myself with my heart
But I've had to let it break a little more
'Cause they say that's what it's for

-

There's somethin' about the clutch of the wrist
He thought mine was his to carve into his mouth
We've only got hours

And I just can't stop cryin' 'cause all of the ways
When you see someone dyin'
You see all your days flash in front of you
And you think about who would be with you
And then there's Donoghue

I will never get over these lyrical moment, they are so precious. The piano is magnificent on this one. These emotional long wordy songs like Kint and Fingertips work so well for Lana, it actually may even be her at her very best, because her strength is her writing and she can emote so ******* well with her gorgeous voice. I really hope she keeps making music like this. Her two BEST songs of all time. She is truly the goddess of empathy UGH.

I will not stand any Blue Banistersus slander

The way she’s letting this album just fade into oblivion from a promo perspective kind of needs to be studied… :lakitu:

So we won't get any music videos right? The only thing this era will get will be a cute festival tour and that's it? Tragic.

But you meant Living Legend, Cherry Blossom and Nectar of the Gods, right?

Nevertheless BB is easily my favorite album of hers. NFR and Honeymoon come afterwards but they lack this cozy introspective atmosphere BB creates :allears:
