Prince Tommy Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 22 hours ago, CottageHore said: I mean, I interpret it as her asking her grandfather (who has passed, which is significant because one of the main themes on the album is mourning family members who have died) who is in “heaven” to watch over her father when he does risky things like deep-sea fish for sharks. In the second chorus she switches it to “when he’s deep-sea fishing for all the things he’s wishing”, bringing to light the metaphor in the title. She’s not being entirely literal. When he’s “deep-sea fishing” he’s searching for answers buried deep within his family’s lineage (something Lana’s been doing a lot of recently, as evidenced on this album), he’s rummaging through generations of trauma to “catch” or find or obtain something enlightening. He’s trying to “reel” these answers to the surface and that can be dangerous and triggering. The song lyrically focuses around calling to higher powers to keep her family safe, which is a sweet sentiment considering how on other songs like Kintsugi and Fingertips she laments quite sadly about all the loved ones she’s lost and what it’ll mean when more leave her side in the future. She wants her family, deceased and still living, to be protected and preserved and she wants the image they’re painted in light of to be pure and true, not inaccurate and tilted like the way the media and critics have viewed her. The verses touch more so on the misconstruing of her character/intentions that the media and critics are guilty of. She seems to be reassuring not just the powers that be, but herself that she is well-intended, good in spirit, and authentic and those good qualities permeate back through her lineage. She comes from a long line of good souls. She’s been talking a lot about her karmic lineage the past few years and seems to be finding peace in her divisiveness through this understanding so I interpret the song this way for that reason. Good interpretation, you ate

Lose My Breath Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I've absolutely fallen in love with the album. Fingertips is brilliant, I was a little confused at first, but I can't quit listening to it now, it's really powerful, Kintsugi, too.

NOW Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 (edited) Her best debut week in a decade, universal acclaim, a magnificent album that keeps revealing itself the more it's listened to, music videos on the way, amazing in-depth interviews, rehearsing for upcoming shows, her being a celeb's celeb...everything is just going right On 4/1/2023 at 12:40 PM, Ice Cream Skies said: I don’t mean this in a super negative way, but Lana kinda goes through friends all the time. We haven’t seen Nikki in a while and Lana stopped liking her IG posts back in December. Coincidence that she finally snapped and went back to being The LDR shortly after she dropped her? I think not! P!NK2LOVE Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Can I ask you a Question… ? Why does Lana sample VB on the last track? Like what’s the reason?

I think it's cause of the fact that NFR is now widely regarded as her best album and everyone constantly talks about not finding her new releases as good as NFR. But, when NFR was released a lot of people were criticising her and saying it wasn't as good as her older releases. VB's main theme is nostalgia so I think she decided to use the shorter version of it on this album to show people that the reason why they are so attached to her older releases is nostalgia. You can't compare an album that you have been listening for years and years and that you probably have memories associated with to an album that literally just released, but that's what the critics and her fans keep doing. When VB was originally released a lot of people were complaining that it was way too long and that it should have been shorter so I think she's giving the people a shorter version to show them they still won't like it as much as they expected cause they have nostalgia for the orginal while this one is newer so they won't have that same relationship with this version for years until enough time passes for them to look back on it with nostalgia. She's saying she doesn't care about criticism: "Imagine if we actually gave a **** Wouldn’t that be somethin’ to talk about for us?" "Before you talk, let me stop what you’re saying I know, I know, I know that you hate me" and she'll just keep doing whatever she wants. She might also be saying she's not dead yet ("Never die, not tonight") so she'll keep making music cause that's what she loves and it doesn't matter if people won't like it as much as her older releases. I think this makes sense when combined with Fishtails and Peppers, as they are the last three tracks on the record. Fishtails is about people wanting her to make more depressing music cause that's what we all came to expect from her with BTD - Paradise - UV - HM, but hoping her music is gonna be depressing is also kind of hoping that she'll be sadder, because she's obviously not gonna write depressing songs while she's feeling happy and everything is going right. Peppers is probably her showing that she can make a different type of music, it's a catchy bop with simple and memorable lyrics which isn't something common from Lana so she's addressing the criticism that a lot people have of her work when they claim that she's been making the exact same music since the beginning of her career. And then Taco Truck x VB comes as the last of that three song run to tell us that she won't change herself just because some people don't like her work and that people also need to realise that nostalgia plays a huge role when we are discussing art.
