Idk about the rest of the album but A&W IS her most experimental song ever whether you like to admit it or not :michael:

So A&W, Fingertips, Kintsugi or the gospel choir in The Grants or Ocean Blvd are not experimental enough for her?

The second part of AW is great, though I don't see how it's supposed to be so brand new when it feels more like a Lizzy Grant type of beat (similar to what she did with Brite Lites or some BTD 1.0 pop demos). And while it's one of my favourites, I can honestly say that idk why it's supposed to be so experimental? Like that word doesn't even come to my mind at all.

And the gospel feeling has been in her music since she started to make these big, lush self-harmonies in HM and then later with actual background singers on BB (Thunder?). It's the first time she's doing that obviously and it defo adds something new - but again, experimental?

Weren't you bitching earlier about how people drag you for having unpopular opinions or whatever? It's probably because you come off like a hater. Opinions can be wrong, and to say there's nothing experimental about Ocean Blvd is wrong. Point me in the direction of an earlier Lana gospel track. She's never been more freeform than she has been on Kintsugi or Fingertips. What song vocally reminds you of Paris, Texas? Peppers in general? The album as a whole has a unique atmosphere and pacing for Lana's discography, and for you to dismiss that completely is just kind of weird.

I was not "bitching". You starting your post like that is kinda the best way to prove my point of the post you're referring to, but go off, I guess... I was referring to people who make musical opinions into a twitter-like beef - nothing about unpopular opinions or "dragging".

And I've written down my thoughts on each track - including referencing the older tracks, styles, vibes they remind me of.

And there's nothing that I'm "dismissing", I'm literally saying "don't call this experimental and unique, when we have been in this direction already, but **** on older albums that have ACTUALLY tried something completely new like Chemtrails or act like we're not getting Norman/L4L 2.0 tracks on this". I've never even said Ocean Blvd is a bad album - I'm saying the arguments why this is supposed to be such a fresh record seem invalid.

The concept of Lana experimenting is more subtle than how other pop artists could be considered experimenting but I'd say it's there with this album:

  • Straight up sampling her catalog throughout the album like she never has before
  • Singing over instrumental tracks that have existed for years instead of working with producers to craft a new production
  • A near 6-min track that's just her freestyling all her verses with no hooks or chorus
  • The extremely jarring Judah Smith interlude that has the entire fanbase divided on its purpose and necessity in the tracklist
  • And lyrically...it doesn't need to be said what she brought to the table this time around

The thing is she will always pull from the same genres that she's been doing for her whole career but she balances it differently with each album. Sure, she already had the backup singers on Thunder and Textbook but their purpose this time around is based on a spiritual theme.

I'm not gonna dive into the Smith interlude... I mean at the end of the day, it got people divided for a good reason. Not worth arguing I guess.

But the two first points - hear me out for a sec - if another artist would be doing that, we would be shady af. Don't you think? And please don't force me to agree that I actually have to feel those two points are positive, when it's obvious that they can be just the very opposite too. Like - I could say the very same thing, but as points of criticism towards this record. :eli:

If this album is mediocre, then why are you in its album thread? Go listen to Lana’s magnum opus, UV and shut your hore mouths, babe! Fries Eating GIF

It should be deemed more like her audio poem book. Thought regurgitation over an instrumental does not make a song :coffee:

It really is the highlight of the entire album, so glad everyone loves it. It's so magical and transcendent

She better not waste it like she wasted Dealer when it had its hype.

And gurl, it's 2023 and not 2014 or 2015 anymore.

Just leave. You want the old stuff? Great, listen to it. Don't bother the rest of us with it.

This will be another 1 + billion streams album for Lana I fear.
