Lana Del Rey - 'Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd'

Call me ugly (you obviously do) but Kintsugi is like Heroine to me. I get that it‘s a very well composed song but I wouldn‘t declare it as best song on the album. It‘s not among my trinity or Top 5 at least.:swan:

My ranking based on personal enjoyment mixed with execution. I feel like this is a pretty standard ranking for unpretentious Lipsters :bird:

1. UV - I mean come on. Her first magnum opus. Her most sonically moving record and a true embrace of darkness. She is yet to top it but NFR comes very close. They're sometimes interchangeable for me. NFR may be the "better album" but impact wise on me as a listener, UV reigns supreme.

2. NFR! - Probably her best overall release. Stunning from start to finish. Sophisticated. You can tell a lot of thought went in and it paid off.

3. Honeymoon - A mood album that does everything it sets out to. This album was essential after UV. Instead of going harder sonically, she reeled it in and went hazy. It's a dream.

4/5. BTD/P - Classics. Not much else to say. You can't deny the greatness. Some meh tracks but overall a massive party the whole way through. Such a strong sonic identity.

4/5. Ocean Blvd. - I really like this record. Some of her best ever (Grandfather, A&W, Candy Necklace, Kintsugi title track, even Fingertips) but there are some wasted opportunities composition wise with a few songs that don't really progress enough. The random "trap slutty bops" are cute and fun but random. Odd sonic identity but it's growing on me. Will probably overtake BTD in no time.

6. Chemtrails - I love the first half. Again, some of her best work but the album feels incomplete. It essentially trails off. I do appreciate its strong sonic identity. I've always felt it was to NFR as Paradise is to BTD.

7. LFL - A handful of great tracks (Heroin, Get Free, Cherry) and a lot of meh pop bops with little identity. Not bad but her most basic. I don't listen to this album much at all and always forget about it.

8. BB - Just not my cup of tea. It feels like a mixtape and yes, lazy at points. I only use WFWF, Dealer, and Thunder. Best tracks on this record could have been mixed with the best of Chemtrails to make her 3rd best album. I don't play it in full as it's a chore to get through.

Heroin is Top 3 on LFL and Kintsugi is Top 3 on Ocean Boulevard, so you’re not wrong :gaycat5:

Facts.

Just bought another copy of the album on iTunes. I'm supporting my queen to the bitter end.

I never want to exist in a world where COTCC isn’t a Top 4 Lana album and Ocean Blvd is beneath BTD oprah winfrey GIF

OB and BTD/P are interchangeable for me as a listener atm. Obviously the writing is better on OB. They're both great. Chemtrails... blame Nikki Lane for that one. As a whole album it's missing something, for me.

Yeah, just shows how great this album when something amazing like Kintsugi won't even make the Top 5 for many people :jonny5:

If it's anything less than a strong 7, he can shove it right up his ass.

i don’t understand how some fans can’t connect with Kintsugi. it’s such a classic Lana ballad, and the chorus is just heartbreaking and has the strongest melody of the entire record. with some lyrical alterations it could be on almost any one of her albums. if it was the ballad on UV instead of Old Money, people would call it her masterpiece song :celestial:

Usually prefer bops to songwriting but… something here puts me in the right mood and I really appreciate the consistency after her last few. The Grants is really beautiful. This could grow to be my fav of hers but it’ll take some time to be sure.

Earthquakes being reused for A&W had me slightly shook...she really takes years to execute concepts:jonny5:

How old is Earthquakes and where does it fit into A&W?

I will never understand mixing Chemtrails and BB together. Two entirely different vibes to me, but maybe that's just me.
