Lana Del Rey - 'Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd'

I think I’ll delete the Judah Smith interlude. It’s soooo long and uninteresting and I hate that preachy stuff and just cuts the mood of the album.
What was she thinking? :doc:

"Ultraviolence" (originally titled "Melancholia") is a song by Lana Del Rey written with Dan Heath." is that true? :skull:

yes? :skull: she told us there was a concept demo called melancholia back in 2014 and it just made its way onto the webs today. it looks like she recorded it on 22 november 2012

Someone on analboards called this album her most unique and experimental....

There's nothing experimental about Ocean Blvd. And you can try to make that up as much as you want to. I swear, no track has surprised me, sonically/style-wise. And it seems it's the same for a lot of people. Unique? Mmmh, if NFR didn't exist, maybe. I'm happy that people like it so much, but there's barely anything fresh on that record, though I could definitely agree that her lyrics are really amazing on this one. Let's just please be real - I can't with people being shady towards BB and COCC (the second literally being more unique and experimental with the country folk sound, whether you like it or not) when those have no track that sounds like direct L4L or NFR leftovers. Ocean Blvd literally consists of 50% L4L and NFR sound.

I will say that I appreciate the Judah Smith interlude being placed after A&W. The themes of being the other woman, and then finding out that the cop she was dating was engaged :weeps: Idk a sermon all about lust being placed directly after that felt so pointed and shady I kinda lived. And then the ending line 'my preaching is about me'. It was interesting and I think it gave more context to her intentions on this record.

Idk about the rest of the album but A&W IS her most experimental song ever whether you like to admit it or not :michael:

So A&W, Fingertips, Kintsugi or the gospel choir in The Grants or Ocean Blvd are not experimental enough for her?

lol

Weren't you bitching earlier about how people drag you for having unpopular opinions or whatever? It's probably because you come off like a hater. Opinions can be wrong, and to say there's nothing experimental about Ocean Blvd is wrong. Point me in the direction of an earlier Lana gospel track. She's never been more freeform than she has been on Kintsugi or Fingertips. What song vocally reminds you of Paris, Texas? Peppers in general? The album as a whole has a unique atmosphere and pacing for Lana's discography, and for you to dismiss that completely is just kind of weird.

I did, they're my least faves but I don't really have an issue.

After several days of listening, I'd say it's in my top three Lana albums but I can't decide if I prefer it over NFR and COTCC.

I mean there's obviously no need to shade BB and COCC. I personally love those records and have been a BB apologist since last year. BUT I can also acknowledge that Ocean Blvd is by far more complex, unique, and experimental for Lana. I'm not hearing any of these Dust For Life leftovers you're talking about here. I can maybe see how this album feels like a LFL compared to NFR/COCC/BB in the same way it incorporates elements from all of her discography into one momentous record.

Songs like Fingertips, Kintsugi, A&W, Grandfather, The Grants, Paris Texas, Peppers, etc all feel brand new for her. She's never been this raw, vulnerable, and unfiltered before and many of the production choices are simply sublime.
