NOW Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I get what she was going for with the Judah Smith Interlude but it's funny how it's universally agreed that it didn't need to be that long. It's probably the first time I do a hard skip on an album I enjoy so much. A quick trim of the fat would've bumped up so many of these reviews by like 10 more points and she absolutely knew that.
Kristen Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Having his name on the cover was pissing me off, so I just spent a semi-hilarious amount of time making my own, if anyone would like to similarly update their Apple Musics without that horrendous interlude:

There isnt a score for the review.

UK fans are so loyal, the fact that she got to #2 there with even BB. Also, props to Interscope for shipping out more copies of her other albums. There were plenty of UV and LFL this time when I went this weekend and they usually just have BTD and the odd copy of something else. I'm just happy this album didn't get Solar Powered. Neither by critics nor by commercial performance

I think that one has the best cover too imo, it just really represents the album so well, almost like she's daring you to listen to it with her glare. MTE, I almost never buy standard versions but the cover is just perfect and the black vinyl makes sense for the photoshoot's 1950s aesthetic

Neither by critics nor by commercial performance It's wild that at one point they just constantly dismissed everything she put out and NFR! made them ultimately switch to the point they can overlook the flaws because they finally "get it." SP isn't bad but it's such a step down from the others that it did seem bad in comparison. Lana has at least been very consistent in her output, for better or worse but usually for better. 2 minutes ago, EdgeofTeeth said: MTE, I almost never buy standard versions but the cover is just perfect and the black vinyl makes sense for the photoshoot's 1950s aesthetic You get it The photoshoot was so simple but executed so well as is usually the case with her stuff. NOW Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 The clapper board for the Candy Necklace screen test shows 3/21/23...perhaps the video won't be out for another month. It's weird that they waited this long to shoot a video though, and the first one of the era.

I'm happy they gave it to Lindsey, despite her Pitchfork BTD review she's genuinely nuanced about Lana as an artist and how she fits into the history of female singer-songwriters. Jon Caramanica is too much of a hack (and lowkey sexist) to appreciate this kind of album.

Paris, Texas really should have gotten a video too but I won't count it at this point It's really the only thing this era is missing for me Edited March 27, 2023 by State of Grace.
My20sBlues Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 the hate on Judah Smith's interlude needs to stop, it's top 5 on the album
West Coast Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 The interludes kind of remind me of VBBOTG. I wonder if shell release that second book soon or if its scrapped

I think it does stack up with the best of the NFR! ballads.
