Oh wow my exact ranking! For me it's just switching BB with AKA

Okay well I wanted to wait to give myself some time w the album before giving my thots (and of course there are now over 100 pages added to the thread :toofunny3:) but here’s my track by track:

The Grants - I like this less within the scope of the whole album somehow

title track - I really do believe this is one of, if not, her best title tracks. The instrumental is so flawless (congrats Jack you did something right for once! :clap3:) However, I really was disappointed the choir girls were not used after these two first tracks. I think they def could have fit some other places on the album.

Sweet - very grand, I like it more now

A&W - obviously a fav but it makes absolutely no sense within the scope of the album. She could’ve saved this for the next one or an EP

the Interludes - I think they actually serve their purpose and I don’t mind them. Surprisingly I actually prefer the Pastor one. Jon Batiste’s could have really been fully fleshed into its own track imo

Candy Necklace - I honestly believe this is her best song ever written. The piano at certain parts gives the impression that she is a ghost from the 1920’s-1940’s singing in a haunted house about her past life with an old broken down piano :alexz: also ot but I feel like the lyric is “Rockefeller, my own brother” bc it makes no sense why she would be saying she loves her umbrella :rip:

Kintsugi- this and Margaret were the tracks that grew on me the absolute most. I hated them on first listen, and thank God I didn’t post anything on Friday bc y’all would have dragged me a bit (an earlier rendition of my review had me dragging the Interludes and calling one of them “John the Butthole Taste Interlude” :skull:). But it’s actually a beautiful track, very Leonard Cohen-esque, and it reminds me of an amalgamation of many of her tracks put together. (I’m making a second post bc this one is getting long)

Go stream Fingertips, Margaret, and Fishtail on Spotify, they need more streams :keir:

It's time to acknowledge that Doin' Time shouldn't have been on NFR and it interrupts the flow after tracks 1-4 :fan:

Also we all know BAR demo absolutely demolishes the embarrassing album version.

I've had BTD era nostalgia lately so this changes

Fingertips - I still think this track is a mess and also doesn’t really fit in with the whole album. I appreciate the info, but I really think there was another way to do it. Honestly one whole album in the vein of Fingertips (very stream of conciousness style) and one whole album in the vein of A&W would be cool but it was a bit disjointed for this album.

PT - it’s cute, the melody has been stuck in my head a lot

Grandfather - no comments, no words necessary. She did what she had to do. A career top 10 highlight honestly

LTLI - I absolutely hated this on first listen too :toofunny3: but now I love it. It’s really pretty, a more mature TNC. (I stand by that this album is her better, more fleshed out LFL 2.0 tho and hopefully I don’t get dragged for that opinion now that we’ve all heard the whole album)

Margaret - it’s cute. Those of you that think she was even remotely in her Taylor bag, I’m going to need you to do something for me :heart2: go to your local drug store and pick up something called Debrox. It’s an earwax cleaning agent that I think you need to use bc it’s honestly starting to get dangerous, the lack of hearing computation skills

Fishtail - hated on first listen, love it now. An album in this vein please.

Peppers - hated on first listen, love now. “Hands on your knees I’m Angelina Jolie” this is about oral sex, right? Some of you who think the lyrics on this album are cringe clearly haven’t listened to Lover and Midnights btw

Taco Truck - I believe this is also one of her best songs ever (notice how I just say Taco Truck, willfully ignoring x VB which deserved to be, at best, a Kristijan Magic remix on YouTube and NOT the closer to this album). An album in this vein as well, please

all in all I don’t have an album or tracklist ranking yet (and I’m surprised any of you do :skull:) but I will say BTD, UV, NFR, and this album will go down in history as her watershed albums where she completely changed her style (and the music industry in the process, dare I say it) forever :clap3:

Doin’ Time is a much-needed change of pace and comes at the perfect time in the record. It has the Long Beach reference and elements which makes it cohesive with the rest of the album. Next take! Over It Drinking GIF by Leroy Patterson

Change of pace after the bop that is FIILY? I think not.

Also, just a reminder. Even if you’ve bought the album on CD or vinyl, make sure to actually play it on streaming this first week!!

Fingertip is a career highlight.

Probably her best album in a while. Sweet, Candy Necklace and Paris, Texas are the holy trinity :jamming:

I've been trying hard to get into it but sadly the album as a whole did nothing for me. and I'm shocked cause with the exception of the title track, this is the first album of hers that I don't relate at all; I guess it's too personal.

I mean don't get me wrong, there are wonderful tracks that I love (ocean, kint, finger, grandfather and the last 3) but the concept and recurrent topics of the album are not something I'm particularly interested in at least for now.

Paris, Texas is the only album track with 1m+ streams on the 2nd day :cm:

Am I the only one who Fingertips hasn’t hit for yet?

Like I know it’ll happen but WHEN? :jonny2:

my friend hasn’t given the full album a listen yet, but he told me today how obsessed he is with paris, texas. i don’t understand. i mean it’s in my top 3, but it’s also just an album track! did they push it on playlists or is it just taste and word of mouth?
