Has anyone pointed out that around the 1:20 mark of Sweet sounds EXACTLY like her song Wait for Life with Emile Haynie at around 2:00 mark ? Like... :skull:

and for some reason Wait for Life has been taken down from Spotify.

Last night I sent The Grants to my best friend who just lost her aunt and grandma recently and she sent me a TikTok video of her bawling her eyes out while listening to the outro.

Perhaps it’s macabre of me, but I did what I had to do! Oprah Winfrey Concert GIF by CBS

I cried tooooo because of that

Does it count for meta. Is this an 80 or 90?

It does. Reads like a 90-something, but depends on what the author submitted to Metacritic (variety is one of the publications that tells MC editors a score to use).

What kind of point were they trying to make? idgi

Hmmm. This is a pretty album but it doesn't command your attention for half of the tracklist. The interludes are a vibe killer & it drags at some points, but there is certainly a handful of great songs that I'll come back to.

Best songs from first listen:

Paris, Texas  (gorgeous, one of her best songs this decade)

Did you know?

Grandfather please

Fingertips is not clicking with me yet.

And Peppers has got to be the most annoying Lana song. The ******* 999x “Angelina Jolie” bit.

They trying to say they all sound the same. But it is ok, that person is mentally unstable and we forgive her, we can only hope that person gets better in the future.

Love this switch, also you're right about fishfail

No switch, it's still one of her worse albums, but those few songs are cute.

Unfortunately the Taylor Swift pastiche Margaret, followed by the attempt at pots & pans music Fishtail, and cheap clunky trap beat remix of VB heavily bring down the latter half of the album. Meanwhile the first half is too much of a Blue Banisters continuation to hold up any weight to the greats of her discography. :michael:

I'm glad she's getting her flowers tho!

I'm so obsessed with Peppers, the song really shouldn't work but it's a masterpiece :jonny5:

if NYT gives her a bad score i hope she scraps the Joan Baez cover

Only ones missing from MC right now:

Variety - 82 or 94 (depending on the score the writer gives MC)

Record Collector - 80

My trinity right now is NFR, BB, and Honeymoon, but this album might push HM out of my top three. I feel like something she tried to do with both COCC and HM was showing how peculiar she is, but this album really captures her oddity quite well.

I wasn't expecting to like the trappier tracks this much since the whispering over piano/guitar is my vibe usually
