How people liken this to BB or COTCC is beyond me. Yes there’s piano here but the productions are far more full and lush :jonnycat:

BB felt like intro to her confessional wordy lyrics era, COCC has some of her first really folky-country vibes, so I see the comparisons.

BB is her worst album for me because i feel like half of it was trying to be this album (namely the 3 singles, arcadia, and like 2-3 new songs) then half was recycled and too timid lyrically to feel like an actual statement.

trying to reckon with A&W and its spot on the album, it's so different from the rest of the it lyrically and melodically....

Yea but the entire theme and all the albums experimental elements just elevate it so far beyond the previous two that the comparisons seem very surface level

The piano on this album is how piano should be used. Each piano has its own melody.

It takes me months to properly rank her new albums tbh, but it is safe to say it's a HOT SHOT DEBUT in her Top 3 for now. I still need to dive deeper into the songs and let them sink in.

i’ve been saying this since yesterday and no one believed me and said my headphones were broken. and i’m an audio engineer like … :bibliahh:

it’s funny how the single version of The Grants doesn’t crackle, but the album version does. and they have the same ISRC code. i don’t understand what they did wrong? but yes someone need to get Ben on the line

anyone who says the mastering is fine is either deaf or fooling themselves. there are glaring issues with audio crackling on ALL the tracks which were not present on the og leaks. did they submit the wrong files to streaming? it's a nightmare :bibliahh: i'll try to get timestamps next time i listen through but they seem to happen when the db just goes a bit high and her vocals get a bit louder/higher. this is literally the stuff that gets checked and fixed during mastering while making everything sound the same across all formats, they put it through a mastering software which makes all the songs have the same amount of loudness which can introduce issues like glitches and crackling but these get quality checked and sorted out, it just tells me the guy didn't even bother having a listen through after putting everything thru a software. :skull: this is the first time this guy is mastering her stuff, it has always been some guy named Chris who did a fine job but this new dude should be fired for this mess.

Much less a fan of her piano balladry nor Jack’s phoned in trap-lite than the times when she really created a sonic world. That said, I enjoy this album and it’s more colorful than her last few offerings.

i did a long shot and dm’d ben, for the sake of it. the most apparent to me is fingertips throughout the entire song, and 2:22-2:32 in grandfather is a NIGHTMARE. i hope he sees my dm :celestial:

whoever this new guy is, it’s pretty embarassing. i master records at home with standard software and methods that sound radio ready like… i could’ve been paid $10 and hour and done it twice as good :bibliahh:

I’m glad I’m stupid because I genuinely don’t hear the mastering stuff, but maybe I just don’t have good enough headphones or I don’t know what to listen to

One thing I do hear though, is do the candy necklace vocals sound…kind of weird? To anyone else. I don’t know how to describe it, but it almost just sounds like a live performance on a radio show or something.
