Ugh she’s better then this. still haven’t heard the song. Better slap. I miss her deep bass hip hop use in her songs though. ? Precisely because you haven’t heard the song you can’t judge the meaning of the song by its “stupid” title.
NOW Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Btw I love that she kept her backup singers from the BB recording sessions. Not sure why it took so long for her to add more backup vocals besides her own but it's a subtle but refreshing change to her music.

It's just that she set her standards so high where most of the disappointment comes from and she should definitely avoid doing that again I think her trend to go more into this direction where she's now, started with Honeymoon. And I still remember many reactions to the first released songs off NFR! that they sound like the 2nd half of LFL, but worse

People are deaf definitely.

That's probably the most radical sonic shift we will get from her until she decides to collab with David Guetta + Marshmello for her future EDM record. I was such a MAC hater at first, I needed to sit with it for a few months before it finally hit. The fact that she dropped that one first and then the instantly bonkers VB right after is still pretty epic/iconic.

Of course, but it would be too jarring to explain the reasons why some felt that way. Anyways, where are the snippets, Lana? Edited December 9, 2022 by ontherocks
State of Grace. Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Mariners / Venice / Hope didn't click on first for me. I didn't dislike them obv but it was more like "what the hell was that I need to listen again". Then they quickly became three of her best songs ever. Ocean Blvd was a collapse the moment that final minute kicked in.
Mykonos Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 i hope she's serving a punch like lust for lifes three last tracks on this one. because that **** fucks me up everytime

I wasn't too fond of MAC either in the very beginning, I also didn't enjoy Hope before the album came out. Wonder how many of these songs we will end up getting on the new record where it takes a while until they resonate with you
Rosiesbixch Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Very mother of her. I’m getting very much NFR vibes from it when it comes to quality. Sonically, it sounds like Lie Down With Me. Although i love BB, and some songs on COTCC, she really needs to take her time crafting her albums so that we get higher quality music, and that she can feel satisfied with the music she’s putting out. I’d sell my kidneys to listen to the album right now tbh. 10/10 song
ontherocks Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 (edited) God damn, those streaming numbers. Despite the fact that a new song just came out and is getting good numbers, literally everything else is increasing so much more compared to when COCC and BB dropped. She should start posting on TikTok Edited December 9, 2022 by ontherocks

State of Grace. Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 The smashery of BTD, UV and NFR is something else. Her top 3 classics.
Gorgeous Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 (edited) I like how there's metaphorical layers to the tunnel, and there not being just one. Just like with the chemtrails over the country club. She really does spend time with her material and her work is not random at all. Edited December 9, 2022 by Gorgeous
NOW Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 (edited) She's decimating those streaming numbers and on top of being a top pick for vinyl holiday gifts. Love it. 12 minutes ago, Gorgeous said: I like how there's metaphorical layers to the tunnel, and there not being just one. Just like with the chemtrails over the country club. I think Father John Misty was the one who once said her process is like she's playing 4D chess with the way she is so intentional with the lyrics, vocal tone, production, and visuals...and I've realized how true that's been since the beginning. EDIT: found his quote Quote "We're talking about someone for whom cynicism is not, like—it doesn't exist for her. And that's not even to say that she's like some kind of drooling savant or something. She knows what she's doing.... Lana is a ******* genius. Like, a melodic genius. A lyrical genius.... And understands that in the post-modern era that part of being iconic is recognizing iconography. She's just playing twelve dimensional chess, but totally subconsciously, because she's too ******* good. She's not like me, I'm like a deranged little worm-man who has to like, you know, like, ******* ****, consider everything and ruin my life, overthinking ****. Lana is the real ******* deal, I've never seen anyone come up with lyrics and melodies that were so dead-on with such effortlessness." Edited December 9, 2022 by NOW
NOW Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Overpriced pillows and bows from Forever 21...mixing expensive and cheap is honestly her signature

wish Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 So here for Interscope actually giving her a decent Spotify push. The new song is at a 50M playlist audience right now, while NFR & COCC singles only got around 35M at most (and 25M for BB singles)

Venice ***** was that girl from the first play, though.
BlackoutZone Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 MAC is still her best song to me, I'm so happy it became the visual reference for the NFR cover since the whole You're lost at sea, then I'll command your boat to me again part always gives me goosebumps. It's interesting though, I remember all of us suspecting the song is sort of Lana's clap-back at the public misunderstanding her messages, lyrics, intentions and she denied all of that in the BBC interview. Perhaps she took some inspiration from those speculations, cause that one song with the longest title that I teased before seems to be touching that topic for real this time. Public's doubt of Lana's persona, of her artistry being genuine and not just controversial fabricated public image, and most importantly that she is a woman in charge, female artist who can also be the master behind her own craft. At least that's how I see it, but I'm anxiously waiting for Lana to speak about this song. It might as well be another MAC situation since it's again a poetic song bathed in various allegories I can't fully grasp on my own. Interestingly it has sea theme again as well

Gives me Ann Powers fiasco flashbacks. Interesting that you also mention the sea like Neil did, I just can't get my head around how Tommy Genesis fits on that type of record Edited December 9, 2022 by ontherocks

Interesting that you also mention the sea like Neil did, I just can't get my head around how Tommy Genesis fits on that type of record I really do, it's between that and AW for my #1 from the album I don't think anything else does, the album is mostly about her closest circle - family, friends, her memories with them. There is a lot of retrospection so I guess she felt like this was also something that shaped her as a person, maybe taught her to be tough, or was pulling her down for the longest. I personally don't see Lana being seen like that for years now, she is really well respected as an artist. But she definitely was really judged early on, the entire BTD era so it's probably a reflection on that. The Tommy "collab" is also not what people think it is but I want to listen to it a bit more before I write about it
