Lana Del Rey - 'Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd'

A week before release, we’re brought into a record label office basement to listen to Lana Del Rey's new album to review. There are drinks and snacks; the crunchy kind, to be chomped on during the masterpiece. We settle in, someone hits play and the tinny speakers deliver the album without much more fanfare or care than you would playing it for the millionth time through your cheap in-ear headphones. People go to the toilet missing entire tracks, twiddle thumbs, scribble notes. We listen once, and leave to give it a rating and comment on its merit. We’re the critics, and when Lana sings “I know you hate me” on the final track, it feels pointed. But it’s a wonder that she doesn’t hate us more."

this self sabotage...

Girl, if they have a personal vendetta against her, that's on them. Their ratings don't even weigh heavy. They are just a bunch of communists

Hopefully the severe tankage makes her ditch Erickson and Antonoff, and bring back Nowels. It feels like she keeps chasing NFR 2.0 which is unfortunate, because her albums used to feel trailblazing by themselves.

If this ends up being less acclaimed than MIDnights, one of the worst Jack projects…

Imagine going to the toilet and missing Kintsugi or Grandfather when the real toilet break should have been Poppers

You know damn well that critics hold Lana to incredibly high standards in comparison to Taylor. This was particularly evident with 'Midnights.' If Lana had created an sonically similar album, she would get 20's and 30's across the board

I hate critics and Taylor privilege from them. An album like Midnights would have never reached that score if it was released by another singer.

Lana "this was completely unlike nfr it was easy to make and I wasn't worried about it being perfect etc etc"
You: "It's like she keeps chasing NFR"

:rip:

~~~
Fishtail and Peppers arent bad at all, theyre lowkey bops tbh, but I wish the album ended with Margaret and she'd found a way to either put them earlier on the record or scrapped them.
Yeah, it does feel like the album actually ends at Margaret and the last 3 are for TikTok/streams
She literally recycled Venice ***** in TTxVB & sampled NFR in A&W. Margaret sounds like a Taylor Swift-ified Love song.
Jack is proving to be a one-trick pony and Erickson is responsible for some of her worst work (see: Beautiful, Violets for Roses). No Nowels, No Acclaim.
Anyway, Let the Light In is stunning. Their voices blend so well together :smitten:
Is TT x VB good? :biblionny:
Jesus it literally says they were eating crunchy **** or leaving the room completely and y’all still cream yourself over AcClAiM!!!1. They don’t even listen to the music like that, it’s all about narrative. How can you take it seriously.
It really doesn't.
Some of you already letting critics dictate your opinions. :rip: Peppers and TT are great songs.
What acclaim has provided Nowels with his same old Dido soundscapes he recycled for 20 years?
the start of the second verse on Candy Necklace is literally the pre-chorus of **** it, i love you :jonnycat:
Her most acclaimed record has 11 Jack songs and 2 Nowels songs (3 if you include his secondary producer credit on HIAB). L argument.
