shaad has been very active on pitchfork ever since quinn moreland called it quits and i’m guessing he wouldn’t publish a review in another magazine that would go too contrary to pitchfork’s opinion. i’m just guessing tho, imo it’ll be a 7.6

Iirc P4K does take avarage scores from all its members for an album score me thinks...

Imagine if it's a FIILY situation and it's different versions between streaming and physicals :deadbanana2: cause idk how you would describe CN as glitch pop, unless there's a facet to the genre I don't know about fff

Try listening to CN while leaving the phone 10 feet away from your bathroom, have the faucet running and then maybe you can fully appreciate the reviewers listening experience.

I’m in love with this album.

The 1-2-3 punch with Paris, Grandfather, and Light is amazing

That is the longest album review I’ve ever read and sounds like it was written by a stan disguised as an amateur music reviewer lmao.

But slay, we’ll take the 10/10. There’s no way this counts for MC though, right?

I listened to the leak. This album is magnificent. I don't know if it can compete with the nostalgia Ultraviolence gives me for a particular time in my life to say that it overtakes it as my favorite album, but it is definitely top 2.

Wait... why is Far Out Magazine describing Candy Necklace as glitch pop and a floor-filler :rip:

I wonder if the reviewers listened to the Rosemead baby exclusive version and called it a day

I don't understand the choice for the total of 8 minutes of interlude preaching / jarring piano back to back, though...

The decision is editorial but not that mathematically detailed. Shaad writing for the Guardian and giving it an 8 means absolutely nothing because the writers don't get to choose the grade. And if he's already written about it for other publication, I would say that his opinion would less of a point to p4k, which trying to say its own thing. And I can't say I'll exactly miss Moreland anyway

Yes. It’s not an average. The critic writing the review gives a score and then the editor is free to adjust how they see fit. That’s why you sometimes see scores that don’t match the review - especially before poptimism they’d score pop girls albums lower despite a glowing review.

the reviews aren’t supposed to be good :bibliahh:

The better review of today's bunch is by miles the guardian's and even that one has some really clunky moments. The NME seems disinterested to engage with the record in any meaningful capacity while the Line (besides being read like it was written by an stifled undergrad) reviwer simply didn't like the last three tracks whatsoever and thought the album was running too long. The RS one is nice. A funny stat is the consistent praise of Margaret and the back to back baffling statements that Taco Truck is better than Venice ***** (NME) and that Taco Truck is horrible and dishonourable of Venice ***** (Line).

Wow, she only has 2M followers but the ratio of engagement she gets on each of her posts is so high.

Anyway, it's a pipe dream but would be cool if she did an MTV Unplugged special for this album :'(

‘Margaret’ - a late album highlight that nods to Springsteen, Sufjan and even Dolly Parton throughout its run time

candy necklace was my most hyped but it’s ended up being one of my least favourites, i was expecting the ‘rockerfeller’ part to be the verses or the pre-chorus . that part is the only good part of the song and seems so short

This was never going to be as acclaimed as NFR. The interludes drag it down massively.
