This album reminds me most of Ultraviolence, strangely. Or Ultraviolence with a dash of Honeymoon in terms of instrumentation.

Dark, murky lyrics and everything sounds live/recorded in one take. Gonna be a while for it all to click with me (although I have the last three songs to go).

but is there a 1-2-3 punch on the level of Shades of Cool - Brooklyn Baby - West Coast tho :celestial5:

Kintsugi sounds so unbelievably classic and gorgeous and winding. In fact all the ballads on the album do. Good riddance to formulaic crap like Beautiful and Violets for Roses

i'm excited for kintsugi and fishtail :ducky:

I don’t think I’ve ever switched on a song as much as Sweet :toofunny3: I couldn’t wrap my head around the melodies and structure but it finally hit today :alexz:

Taco x VB is good but kinda underwhelming for a closer? Idk, what do we think? :celestial5:

I think so too. The interpolation is not majestic like I thought it would be, it sounds more like one of those mashups fans make on youtube. Also, the lyrics on the chorus are a bit… cringe? People saying the lyrics on Peppers were cringe just wait until you hear Lanita Bonita

I’d have a whole album of her using those weird trippy sounds that are in the last three tracks, as well as Venice ***** and **** It I Love You

The album is genuinely incredible to me outside of the interludes that I never planned on listening to much anyways, and I'm not fond of Margaret or PT. The rest is 10/10. She's unstoppable and the girls who get this album get it. Those who don't, don't.

Spoiler

When I look back
Tracing fingertips over plastic bags
Thinking I wish I could extrapolate some small intention
Or maybe just get your attention for a minute or two?

Will I die?
Or will I get to that ten year mark
Where I beat the extinction of telomeres?
And if I do, will you be there with me, father, sister, brother?

Charlie, stop smoking
Caroline, will you be with me?
Will the baby be alright?
Will I have one of mine?
Can I handle it?
Even if I do
They said that my mind is not fit
Or so they said, to carry a child, I guess I’ll be fine

It wasn’t my idea the cocktail of things that twist neurons inside
But without them I’d die
They say there’s irony in the music
It’s a tragedy, I see nothing Greek in here
Give me a mausoleum in Rhode Island
With dad, grandma, grandpa and Dave
Who hung himself real high in the National Park skies
It’s a shame, and I’m crying right now to get to you, save you
If I take my life, find your astral body
Put it into my arms, give you two second to cry
Take you home, I’ll give you a blanket
Your spirit can sit and watch TV by my side

Cause baby I ran though a time when I felt you were doing it
I couldn’t handle it, I was in Monaco
I couldn’t hear what they said on the telephone
I had to sing for the prince in two hours
Sat in the shower, gave myself two seconds to cry
It’s a shame that we die

When I was fifteen, naked
Next door neighbours did a drive-by
Pulled me up by my waist, long hair, to the beach side
I wanted to go out like you
Swim with the fishes that he caught on Rhode Island beaches
But sometimes its just not your time

Caroline, what kind of mother was she to say I’d end up in institutions?
All I wanted to do was kiss Aaron Green
And sit by the lake twisting lime into the drinks that they made
Have a babe at sixteen, the town I was born in and die
Aaron ended up dead, not me
What the ****’s wrong in your head
To send me away never to come back?
Exotic places and people
To take the place of being your child?
I give myself two seconds to cry
Let it crash over me like the waves in the sea
Call me Aphrodite as they bow down to me

Sunbather, moon chaser, queen of empathy
I give myself two seconds to breathe
And go back to being a serene queen
I just needed two seconds to be me

Spoiler

There's a certain point the body can't come back from
In one year we've learned the turn of the mouth
The depth that the chest cavity takes
Chucky was there for three out of three
I was there for the third cause I couldn't be there for the one who was closest to me
But I can’t say I run when things get hard
It's just that I don’t trust myself with my heart
But I’ve had to let it break a little more
Cause they say that's what it's for

That's how the light shines in
That's how the light shines in
It’s how the light gets in

So everyone was there
They were standing, laughing
And I’m on the side with my tears streaming down
Something about the clutch of the wrist
He thought mine was his to cough into his mouth
We’ve only got hours, and I just can't stop crying
Cause all of the ways, when you see someone dying
The sea of your days flash in front of you
And you think about who will be with you
And then there's Donoghue

Daddy I miss them, I’m in the mountains
I’m probably running away from the feelings I get
When I think of all the things about them
Daddy I miss them, I’m at the Roadrunner Cafe
I’m probably running away from the thoughts in the day
That have things to do with them
But they say

That's how the light gets in
That's how the light gets in
That's how the light gets in

Think by the third of March, I was cracked open
Finally the ground was cold, they wouldn't open
Brought by the sunlight of the spirit to pour into me
There's a name for it in Japanese, it’s Kintsugi

They sang folk songs from the 40s, even the 14 year old knew Froggy Came A-Courtin

How do my blood relatives know all of these songs
I don’t know anyone left who knows songs that I sing

That's how the light gets in
That's how the light gets in

But daddy I miss them, I’m at the Roadrunner Cafe
Probably running away from the feelings today
In the snow capped mountains of the desert
Daddy I miss them, I’m in the mountains
Probably running away, I’m meaning to say
That there's nothing to do except know that

This is how the light gets in
Like cracking the light gets in
It's how the light gets in
That's how the light gets in
That's how the light gets in

And you're golden, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh
Just another folk song but hey
I try so hard but that's okay
It's how the light gets in
It's how the light gets in, It's how the light gets in

A&W is the best song on the album, nothing will top that gorgeousness

I mean, I think we all can guess that this'll be under NFR reception wise. There's been too much mess in between then and now for critics to give her that level of unconditional acclaim. That being said, a 4/5 is fine fnfmdmkd

it's also not as good as NFR, so there's that

This will be as acclaimed as chemtrails methinks, 81-83 metacritic and nice year end lists placements

Hmmm..  I think I'll need to listen to this a few times
