I'm mostly talking about normal circumstances, what everyday life with the police is like. What these articles described were rare situation, protests don't normally happen.

There’s no normal circumstances or everyday life in China. These Kind of things happes everyday.

Do you live there? These kind of things won't happen if you close your mouth about that government, which many would not do so in fearing of their lives. I know it's easier to generalize things, but I'm talking from experience, I live there and have deal with police multiple times. If you just live your life and don't make any political opinion against the party, you won't have police bothering you like you assumed. It still sucks but that's the reality I and my people are living in, we just have to wait for their downfall.

I had no idea what a dictatorship China was :rip: Poor people. I feel so bad for anyone who lives in countries like thee and Russia. We truly are lucky to be in the US or Canada or UK, etc.

Its going to happen in the US sooner or later. There are WAY too many stupid people here. :skull:

Yeah I used to live there. I used to agree that keeping it shut and going on with my life was the best. But at the moment many thousand who are doing the same suffer because of the dumb policies of Beijing. Hu Jintao did a great job at making China more likeable but Xi have done the complete opposite and him having a term for lifetime is a nightmare. The last chance of having any political opposant have been erased with the symbolic exit of Hu at the party congress and the destruction of rising opponents.

The censorship is terrible but everyone just uses a VPN. Like my friend was in Shanghai just before 2020 and she said everyone on the subway was on Instagram or Facebook. There’s a reason China is the capital of movie/music piracy :rip:

You just don’t have a choice, anyone can get arrested and the fear of what they might do to you is enough to keep your mouth shut unless when you’re not the only one protesting. They use a lot of intimidation tactics, police presence I saw up to 200 officers patrolling a park on Tiananmen anniversary, teens getting shot and beaten. In the end a lot of expats “sell their souls” and put the golden handcuffs on and most people I knew hated the CCP but had a comfortable life enough to just shut up about it.

Well only one cult of personality is allowed and that’s for the leader.

Damn :rip:

I remember a guy from China asking me if I'd ever move to China with him (after the first date btw :rip:) and he also told me it's not that bad it's just Western propaganda :rip:

Why would they ban such an irrelevant website? :dies:

:bibliahh: Tea. It isn't banned but imagine ATRL without the gifs, Youtube links, Tweets etc. :coffee2:
