Why is it such a big deal for some people if someone is latino or spaniard? What's the big deal? The two ethnicities are quite related, aren't they?

People trying to get "woke" points I guess. Latino isn't even an ethnicity it's more like a cultural identity that englobes many many aspects from the pot that is LA as a result of history/colonialism/immigration. Latin Grammys aren't supposed to award "latin american" artists they are basically the spanish (+ portuguese and some other small dialects included) of the traditional Grammys. They are awards to reward musical output in those languages, there have been american, italian, portuguese and spanish artists winning those records for decades just like artists from latin american countries do, they know it but they just want to be outrrage for the sake of being outrrage and feel entitled or "righteous" I guess...

It's not a being deal. It's geography. (I'm not trolling you.) They can just replace Latino with Hispanic. Latino includes countries like Brazil which don't even speak Spanish.

Rosalia isn't latina though. She is directly from Spain. I don't care for Rosalia's music but I do think its funny how most of the people that have a problem with Rosalia in Latin circles are not even Latino :skull: Sure I've seen latinos call her out but outside of social media I know a lot of latinos that **** with her music (obviously the younger demographic) and they dont care that she's from Spain. I remember when they tried to "cancel" Enrique Iglesias on twitter just a few years ago because he's not "Latino". It was hilarious to witness because it was mostly tweets from White liberal gay men and black people calling Enrique Iglesias a "colonizer" and then the actual latinos from twitter dragging these Non-Latinos for not minding their business :ahh: Most latinos love Enrique Iglesias and dont care that he isn't directly from Latin America. He's also not fully white. He is part Filipino and he actually has a puerto rican great grandmother. Jennifer Lopez, Wisin Y Yandel, Ricky Martin, Ozuna, Glorida Estefan, Marc Anthony, Pitbull, etc have all supported Enrique and vise versa.

It's also hysterical to see Non-Latino people try to force LatinX down our throats. We don't have a problem with other latinos using LatinX but most of us don't use it and it doesn't even grammatically make sense. It says a lot when Latino transgendered people are also calling out the LatinX label.

Latin people overall likes and respect Rosalia a lot, she's performing to sold out crowds everywhere

I mean, it's the latinos who voted for her to win AOTY twice

She gets an standing ovation yesterday when she won

Ar this point is really just a bunch of trolls pushing this narrative, and weirdly it seems like almost everyone is not even from Latin America

I really hope there's a collab coming!

Just a reminder to those who have something to say about them being latinas or not:

"The Latin Grammy honors works recorded in Spanish or Portuguese from anywhere around the world that has been released either in Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula, or the United States."

their genre could be latina but root wise xtina is latina while rosalia is not

The funny thing is there are some Latinos who are fully Spanish/European. So what’s the big difference between those Latinos and Rosalia? Not much, if any. It’s silly. And at the end of the day, that’s why this isn’t something that’s an actual issue in the real world. Rosalia wouldn’t have gotten this far in her career if people actually cared. She sure wouldn’t have won AOTY, but she did :supaspaz:

Yes, people seem to forget/deny that Christina is racially mixed based on her appearance, forgetting that she has a non Latino/Irish mother. But yeah, you can clearly see her dad has Indigenous in him. And if you’ve seen her paternal grandparents, you can see the Indigenous in them too.

Agreed too with the rest about non Latinos trying to speak over how actual Latinos feel

That's the point: the Latin Grammys are not about the roots of the winners so I don't know why they're being discussed here

Rosalia clearly wants to work with Christina.
