Should it be illegal to film people without their consent?

With social media rising and apps like tik tok going viral every minute, people are consistently filmed and sometimes bullied or humiliated.

Happens a lot in gyms, street etc

Should it be illegal to upload videos that film people without them knowing?

It’s a massive invasion of privacy in public spaces.

Idk if in some countries it already is but this is happening too often in some parts of the world.

If the person is in a public place, then you can film them.  Otherwise it would be illegal to ever shoot a video in Times Square or a popular park.  However, if the person you are filming is in a private location (narrowly defined), then I think that it should be illegal to post a video online or in public if the individual is a subject of the video.

This. Especially those videos from pedo hunters, we need to know what those creeps look like, who they are.

IDK but it's cringe, unless it's white people being assholes to fast food workers, i enjoy watching them be clocked.

Not if you’re in public, which is what the law in most areas already says.

Enforcing a ban like this would require a significant level of authoritarianism.

Honestly it depends on the context. Filming people can and does prevent a lot of crimes. However, filming people inappropriately, IS a crime.

Absolutely NOT. Then people would not be able to film crimes and especially when COPS abuse people. :coffee2: Obviously you shouldnt be able to blackmail people or put their face on sites that doxx them though. Although I think thats already illegal.

I think that's a given but OP is referring to weirdos that film people who are just doing their thing and filming them to humiliate them online. That's not ok

Yes but isn't it already illegal to an extent? people blur faces all the time

No, there are so many ways that could be manipulated badly to censor information.

But people should be aware of how the law works here. For example a gym isn't a public place it's an owned building so anyone filming needs permission from the gym to film and to upload technically. Usually not enforced but if someone was uploading videos of you in the gym to shame you then you could probably report them to the gym and ask them to get the videos taken down. Unfortunately if you're just on the street that doesn't count but you can get yourself blurred from stuff in some cases. Plus of course if the video is sexual it is illegal for them to post it against your wishes.

You can't invade someone's privacy if they're out in public.

if you're filming someone and editing it to make them look bad there's probably laws against that idk

if they did nothing wrong, then yes!!!!!!!!

I hate that 80% of the gym swears they're influencers and are always recording themselves... like do whatever you want but why do I have to be in it? Go somewhere private.
