This movie is phenomenal :clap3:. Quite possibly the best Godzilla movie ever made and my favorite film of 2023. The acting was stellar, the story was engaging—simple but complex at the same time—and the visuals were breathtaking. Godzilla felt like a true threat, horrifying and colossal. The only thing that isn't near perfect is the CGI/visual effects is a bit dodgy at times but I only noticed it in 2-3 shots.

@kandicha Hurry and go see this!!!!

A common criticism about these films are that human characters aren’t engaging and this film made you care for them :chick3:

This was very bad. The acting was atrocious. How is this getting such good reviews? The Godzilla scenes were nice, but the other ones with the family and crew were not good. Again, awful acting. Why is everyone screaming and making stupid faces? I think I like this acting in anime more.

:deadbanana2:i mean i guess it's a bit overrated with such high critic scores and i wouldn't rate it that high. but also i never watched the previous Godzillas to have something to compare it to.

i wouldn't pan the acting like you would though :deadbanana2:they're acting in a survival movie ofc they're gonna scream and make faces

The film will be released in black & white in Japan on January 12th, titled Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color.

"We are now able to announce Godzilla-1.0/C, which we have been working on for a long time," director Takashi Yamazaki said in a statement, per Bloody Disgusting. "Rather than just making it monochrome, it is a cut-by-cut. I had them make adjustments while making full use of various mattes as if they were creating a new movie."

"What I was aiming for was a style that looked like it was taken by masters of monochrome photography," he continued. "We were able to unearth the texture of the skin and the details of the scenery that were hidden in the photographed data. Then, a frightening Godzilla, just like the one in the documentary, appeared. By eliminating colour, a new sense of reality emerges. Please live and resist further fear at the theater."

I was kinda doubting about seeing this one or not because the last 3 from WB have been silly and the humans dumb but after reading so many good reviews I’m tempted to go, it just got released here in Mexico this past weekend.

Will report back, but anyway what does the -1.0 stands for? Is it like a prequel or origins story or something??

This is from the original Japanese production company, Toho, that created Godzilla seventy years ago. The American ones by Legendary are not related to this. This is a standalone reboot of the original 1954 film, as was Toho’s 2016 Shin Godzilla (which was also pretty good). The “Minus One” in the title refers to Japan being at their lowest point (“zero”) following the end of World War 2, only for them to be thrown into further chaos by Godzilla’s emergence (Japan goes from nothing to negative).
