nostalgia Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 When it comes to acknowledging the source of inspiration in her career path and popgirl stardom, Taylor has always cited Avril Lavigne as a mentor and role model, as she also weaponized her singer-songwriter persona like Avril. Out of all the early 2000s pop girls (Britney, Xtina, P!nk, Kelly, etc…) it is Avril that Taylor has chosen as the one she has always looked up to. With her being the reigning Queen of pop, many were expecting that she would acknowledge Britney or Kelly as her predecessors, but she has found a connection with Avril. With her giving birth to the biggest popgirl now, can we say that Avril is also significant at inspiring the new generation of megastars (Olivia, Lil Nas X, Billie) who have seen her as their icon?
The Last of Us Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Avril has inspired Taylor, Billie, Olivia, Willow and many more. Let Go changed the game for a lot of female artists going forward. Avril is and will always be that *****. Some people on ATRL like to downplay her success a lot, but that’s just ATRL for you, most of what people spew out here contains little to no factual evidence.
The Last of Us Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Also, artists like Olivia, Willow and Billie have OPENLY called Avril an inspiration, so we don’t really need to ‘say’ anything when it’s already been said.
vale9001 Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Definitely more than Britney. Once I read Taylor said she remembers the day she got out of school with her friends to buy Ops i did it again the day it was released (yesterday she beat that record, incredibile to think about) but I think she was fan of Britney cause it was the trend upon kids at the time. I don't think she has never been really inspired by her in career moves or music. Maybe some video from 1989 has some Britney vibe but that's more on the Joseph Khan kind of visuals. The kind of max martin pop Taylor has made is more post Girlfriend era. That song is a watershed in pop radio sound and inspired a lot everything pure pop in the the next 7-8 years. What Taylor made with 1989 in some way it's what Avril made after the first 2 albums but Taylor made a complete career switch, Avril was more hesitant and the hybrid bwtween her old and new image didn't work as well in the long path.
blueberries Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 They had similar career trajectory at first. Let Go > Fearless Under My Skin > Speak Now (same style as the previous album but edgier sound) TBDT > Red (more pop influences) But Taylor played her cards right and became bigger than ever while Avril just kept declining and losing fans.

Ummm Taylor has deffo been a Britney fan ((maybe even more)) for the longest, even probably now she said it to B herself, during the Circus era Covered her songs on her Tour u already "mentioned" Bad Blood and even Reputation (her best album wbk) era had several nods to her even recently, she said that Britney's laugh was one of her favorite things not saying Britney was something more than Avril, to Taylor but she deffo played a role in her musical interests Anyways, I do see how Taylor is similar to Avril and Britney I can hear how Avril may've been a big inspiration, especially during her early days since the sound really matches and it has always reminded me of her for Britney... her initial pop sound (and some of her later repeak), not so much with the sexy moments (but that's normal since that isn't much of Taylor's interest)
Bloodflowers. Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Don't forget Taylor dancing to Love Sux on the album's release day
Buffy Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Michelle Branch and The Wreckers also inspired her too. She dressed up as them for Halloween before she debuted.
♚ PRiNCE HiGH ♚ Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 It's pretty clear she modeled her pop sound after Avril's

HBK-79 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Also: Did Taylor ever VERBALLY mention Avril as one of her influences?
FightForTanas Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 You can easily hear her influence on her earlier albums. Im talking about Avril's let go style of music not her 2007 style.

So in regards to the op yes I can see Avril's influence on the current MPGs.

Taylor has stated countless times that Avril literally paved the way for her and her career would not it be today if it wasn’t for Avril being a trailblazer in pop and pop rock and songwriting Quote Taylor Swift sent Avril Lavigne flowers to celebrate her latest album, Love Sux. The Blank Space hitmaker, 32, declared herself a 'forever fan' of the pop-punk icon in a touching note with the arrangement, which was shared on the 37-year-old songwriter's Instagram Story on Wednesday. 'Avril, Been dancing around my kitchen to your fabulous new album!! It's AMAZING, like you. Your forever fan, Taylor,' she wrote.

Wtf are these threats you are so delusional no one is attacking anyone here the only one trying to disrupt this cute thread is you!
trainsskyscrapers Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 "Shake It Off", "22", "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", "How You Get The Girl", and "All You Had To Do Is Stay" are very melodically Max x Avril. All of them fit alongside "What The Hell", "Smile", "I Love You" & "Wish You Were Here" from Goodbye Lullaby. The Bridge of "Shake It Off" is also VERY influenced by the bridge of "Girlfriend".

Sis artists don't always state who influenced them especially Taylor, who is really eluding and mysterious a lot of the times but it's clear that the influence is there especially since she has shown a lot of love to that artist ofc this isnt a drag towards Taylor everyone is influenced by someone

These aren't threats. IRL lots of Swifties have skulldragged me for saying that Avril influenced Taylor's music, because 'Taylor is her own artist'. 23 hours ago, Rev8 said: artists don't always state who influenced them especially Taylor, who is really eluding and mysterious a lot of the times That's my point. Taylor has the penchant for praising so, so many artists that die-hard Swifties will say 'you can't really tell who really inspired her'.
