Dragonfly Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I read a comment on FB that summarised it pretty well: everyone is allowed to have an opinion about Taylor's body; except for Taylor
gagacasanova Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 People are ******* and are too damn sensitive.
BlackStar_93 Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Thank you for posting this - I'm also an ED survivor and found the video very relatable. I hope you're doing well now OP! I really dislike how the people criticizing the scene essentially invalidated her ED. ED's aren't black and white and it's frankly problematic that they've tried to oversimplify them to 'skinny = good, fat = bad'. She was not, in any shape or form, fatphobic; EDs are different for everyone and everyone's experience is valid. My ED was a bulimia/anorexia subtype and whilst weight control and fear of being perceived as overweight is one aspect of it, they're so much more complex and nuanced than that. Also, it was never about judging others and their weight, it's such a personal thing about body image and self-perception, as well as control. I find it so problematic that they made someone's own struggle and illness about themselves - that was her experience and she shouldn't have had to censor it.
LustSpell Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 It's wrong people compelled her to change her art of her own personal ED. She was not making fun of fat people in anyway - but showing what she personally thought of herself at the time she was going through things. It's f ucked up and wrong and whoever dragged her should be ashamed. It's like so many fat people don't want to imagine skinny people have body dysmorphia too. You can be the skinniest person around and think you're fat because it's a mental health issue, not necessarily a body issue. The world is not responsible for someone's triggers. You yourself are.
cOe Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I understand both sides. What Taylor did was authentic to her inner thoughts, and I don't think she looks down on fat people, it's just the society and celebrity standards giving her body dysmorphia. On the other hand, it was a little bit insensitive for a thin woman to include this, so I understand the controversy
Bloodflowers. Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 It's genius because now people are clicking on the video. If she didn't remove that scene then nobody would be talking about it. And backlash over removing the word fat isn't ruining her reputation, it makes her seem sensitive to people's feelings and she comes across as a nice person when in fact she's just a genius marketing business woman, we have to stan a bit.
RockStarShit101 Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Stupid! She was talking about her struggle, and let’s be honest, no one wants to be fat!

kandicha Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 (edited) It’s so stupid and also kinda narcissistic for fat activists to make a woman talking about her experiences with an eating disorder about themselves. Everyone has a different struggle and everyone can talk about theirs. I’m sympathetic to people who saw the video and felt triggered for whatever reason but it’s also on them to learn how to handle those feelings—I don’t think we should be demanding others censor how they talk about their own struggles. On that note, I left some comments on Reddit yesterday stating as such, and some fat activist went out of their way to downvote all my comments and tell me I’m “so stupid on fat issues” Ok lol Also to add that while I don’t mind fat activists who just want people to be nicer or whatever, there are a lot of fat activists who are extremists such as those who claim losing weight for any reason is fatphobic and we should honestly just not give those kinds any attention. TinashesLighter Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 haven't watched but i think she should have left it in. why compromise on your vision bc of people feeling a way, especially if shes touching on her own experience? people are always going to find something to be outraged about. i doubt her intention was to hurt anyone so she should stick to her guns
Ciel Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I don't know...I do understand both sides to an extent but the outrage does kinda give chronically online behavior
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted October 27, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted October 27, 2022 While I understand Taylor's thought process for including that in her video and sympathize with the struggles she's had with body dysmorphia, I can't imagine how larger women who also struggle with their bodies would feel after seeing that is what Taylor thinks is fat. But I also don't think she should have removed it, there has become a precedent recently to remove anything remotely offensive from music culture and I really wish an artist would put their foot down and say "this is my art and this is how I intended it to be perceived" and leave it as that.
MadonnasBoyfriend Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 It's fine she wants to remove it not to offend her fanbase which has a huge plus sized community within it
