Not at all, you generally shouldn't expect anything from soundtrack songs. And mind you, Rihanna has done four of them before now - none of them did anything. A few become massive acclaimed classics, but it's very night and day between ones that do and don't and only a few do.

Wait drag Never Ending :deadbanana2: I was thinking while listening for the first time it kinda gave me an upgraded Never Ending

I was just saying! This reminds me so much of Never Ending and Close to You, it's like a cross between the two

Good Start, but we’ll see where she settles…

See thats my qualm. It’s a noble but convoluted context. After 7 years, we wanted a Rihanna moment.

If she had launched a new era with her own content, I dont think anyone would mind this It’ll be taken as face value - a soundtrack single in service to a movie, a franchise and a deceased person’s legacy.

Understandable, Curious what your definition of that moment is tho?

Cause again Rihanna music is rarely received well upon initial release on here. We can go down a long list of songs and album (Anti) that was met with harsh criticism and drags initially and overtime when it became commercially successful folks acted brand new.

So to see ppl in here talking CRAZY… career suicide … killed all hype, worst song ever…etc. She’s freakin Rihanna … been in the industry going on 18yrs this will not negatively effect her career in the grand scheme.

Doesn't scream top 10 to me. Something like 23 - 47 - 78 - OUT

You are fooling yourself if you think she won't debut in the top 10. I can't speak about longevity but top 10 is on lock.

Something tells me a good portion of ATRL likely doesn’t give a damn about a Wakanda in the first place. Can’t expect anything to resonate with people who don’t even understand the songs significance.

She is a nearly 35 year old Mother now. Y’all are not getting Bad Gal Riri the way you once used to. She gave y’all 7 albums of ***** pops get over it. spacer.png

The excuses. I don't think anyone was expecting Pour it Up 2.0.
I was hoping for Stay 2.0 or that Mother Mary song 2.0

Not the least bit surprised a website full of white gays don’t understand or appreciate the significance of a tribute song honoring the life/legacy of Chadwick

Lift me up is beautiful and I’m sure hearing it in context of the movie will make it 100000 more impactful

Welcome back Rih

So we are cornered into making this about race. Wow bethenney wow.

Some were bound to dislike but it isn't about not appreciating the song.

I just don't see it, sorry. Maybe 11-20 range at best

But hot 100 was kinda super weak until Midnights bomb, so who knows

if anything, this'll warm up people for the actual comeback.

i think this is a beautifully executed song for what it's supposed to be - emotional, simple, easy digestible for everyone (it's a superhero movie after all), and an easy choice for the winter radio/superbowl wave.

also, it's giving her the space to breathe with all of the unrealistic expectations for R9/new commercial music

After Beyoncé went from "Be Alive" to "Break My Soul" didn't teach these people a lesson, nothing will.

As somebody who is more of a casual Rihanna listener and wouldn’t care if she ever released new music again, I like this song. I can imagine it being really impactful at the end of Wakanda Forever.

With that being said, I was expecting something more like this…

A ballad with more ‘oomph’ behind it.

Taste. i would have loved if Lift me up delivered with this cadence

Anti-Hero is def blocking on Spotify Global :rip: Potentially Unholy too depending on how Rih holds for the next hours…

The song just isn’t what the GP wanted.

It’s simple; a single unencumbered by any extenuating factors.

Yes, it may get polarising reaction but at least ppl will be gauging the song on its own merit. None of this … its a soundtrack song, its a tribute song malarky. Regardless of atrl’s reception. The song will do its thing.

I dont think anyone’s implying her career will take a hit for this. Thats just silly. Multiple tepid soundtracks is pretty much a rite of passage for every MPG.

It's a soundtrack, so it's alright if it's not a hit

But she kinda killed the hype for her actual single...
