Just look how huge The Lion King was. With the biggest name in music Beyonce who released a phenomenal body of work to coincide with it and it went absolutely nowhere. Also led by a ballad. To try and pretend this isn't a risk is farfetched. The best thing say and the best way to go about it is just hoping for the best and remaining optimistic.

This is a strange comparison because 1) Nobody was interested in new songs for The Lion King - "Spirit" (or any other song) was never gonna compete with the classics from the original soundtrack, and 2) Beyoncé wasn't coming off a hiatus when she released "Spirit", it came out a year after Everything Is Love and her Coachella set. That wasn't a comeback

I must be the only one thinking that this is actually a GREAT opportunity for her comeback :skull: She's a mogul now and I think that might be one of the reasons why she delayed her album so many times. Releasing music was too much of a risk when all of her other business ventures were fairly new and doing well. They are still doing well but her brands are established now, especially Fenty Beauty. Even if her new album fails to connect with the audiences her other businesses - that make a lot of money - will continue to thrive, whereas in 2019 or 2020 for example a flop era would've affected her other brands as well. Now with this soundtrack song she and her team actually have a chance to see the reception and maybe adjust her new era according to that. Idk this might be a dumb take but that's my theory :emofish:

You're 100% right :clap3:

They bein stupid and hatin lol

Do we have the length yet? I'm really hoping it's not less than 3 minutes. We don't need a quick lil interlude, we need a full 3:40-4:58 song.

Seems like they're still living in 2012

I doubt it’s gonna be a ballad in the traditional sense anyway. This seems to be a Tems song, I think she’s gonna go for a delivery similar to hers. No way it’s gonna be something like “Spirit”

She can flop for all I care, I'm just sooo happy to hear new music from her at last :jonny5:

I imagine we find out more info here pretty soon. There is a preview in 20 mins for the nba and then the premiere!

Which is hilarious since Rihanna’s last ballad was 1) very successful 2) extremely acclaimed and 3) Not written by Sia. I’m talking about Love on the Brain, one of her most impressive songs of her career.

This better be HUGE and timeless i.e. IWALY/MHWGO/Shallow type of huge because if she’s willing to waste her comeback hype on a soundtrack song, it better be worth it.

So it’s a soundtrack song? :noparty:

No, Marvel are just letting Rihanna play her song during Black Panther.

Yessss I'm thinking along these lines too. I also think it's a good strategy to have considering the intense pressure of her comeback and how if this song doesn't live up to expectations, and somehow flops commercially (highly doubt it), it won't be attached to R9.

Not a ******* soundtrack song. Girl where the **** is your album :rip:

I feel like this is going to be her ‘see you again’ moment. I’m worried about it being a ballad but as long as it’s a banger and it smashes then it will be okay.

So this will be on a future album and is HER song, it’s just also being promoted alongside this film because it’s in it?

Will she attend the premiere tonight?
