mercurialworld Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 (edited) From The Verge: Apple has given its most direct confirmation yet that a USB-C-equipped iPhone will happen, now that the European Union is mandating that all phones sold in its member countries use the connector if they have a physical charger. When asked by The Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Stern if the company would replace Lightning, Apple’s senior vp of worldwide marketing, Greg Joswiak, answered by saying: “Obviously, we’ll have to comply; we have no choice.” Stern brought the law up during a talk with Joswiak and software VP Craig Federighi at the WSJ’s Tech Live conference and followed up by asking when we can expect to see USB-C on an iPhone. Joswiak replied, “the Europeans are the ones dictating timing for European customers.” Currently, the law dictates that “all mobile phones and tablets” will have to use USB-C by “autumn 2024.” Joswiak refused to answer whether the company would include the connector on phones sold outside the EU. PoisonedIvy Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Disgusting legislation Wtf. It’s like if the US Govt demanded that all appliances have three pronged connectors instead of dual prong. The obsession with tearing down Apple never ends
Dula Peep Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 I thought they would remove the port entirely?
Gorjesspazze9 Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 This would have been a bigger deal in like 2015? I didn’t know people cared anymore and just went along with it
BabyBenzz Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 finally, means i can charge all my devices with one charger/cable

But almost every other phone manufacturer is on USB-C, so it makes sense to harmonize The same thing already happened in the past for sockets and plugs

SwiftLover Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Whose waiting 3hrs to charge their phone anymore lightning cables are kinda iT

I guess they’d have to improve the battery life quite substantially for wireless charging to be effective whatever they do, I just hope the next iPhone is sickening!

I’m using it right now with the wireless charger plus it fast charges the first 10 mins to over 50%
The7thStranger Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 (edited) The real tragedy is that lightning is the better port (much like firewire was better than USB 1.1/2.0). I wish Apple had opened it up and made it available to all manufacturers. USB-C blows. That being said, it'll be nice to ditch the extra cable. Edited October 26, 2022 by The7thStranger

Better Mistakes Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 i don't see the issue. If anything, it opens the iPhone up to more productivity uses, such as docking and external storage for work files etc. much like the iPad and MacBooks that all use USB C.
MadonnasBoyfriend Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Apple late to the party like usual ?
