naval23 Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 9 years ago today, Katy Perry released ‘PRISM.’ Her Grammy-nominated third album spawned two Diamond #1 hits, ‘Roar’ and ‘Dark Horse.’ Despite being released in late August, "Roar" managed to make top 10 year end - becoming the fastest song in digital history to pass 4 million sales, reaching 4.41 million downloads by the end of 2013 (becoming the 6th best-seller of the year) and would go on to become Diamond and sell 6.5M digital downloads. It became the #1 single of 2013 in Australia and reached top 5 in 20+ countries, and is the most Female viewed music video on YouTube of all-time. "Unconditonally" was self-proclaimed as a future wedding classic by Ms. Perry and was a cute top 20 hit but became her first single in 5 years to miss the top 10 of the Hot 100, peaking at #13. Dark Horse would become her biggest hit in the USA, spending 22 weeks in the top 10 and charting 57 weeks overall (surpassing the 40 week count of "Firework"). It wound up selling 6.5M downloads in the USA, becoming the most streamed song of the year and the 2nd biggest seller behind Pharell's "Happy". It would also go on to reach top 5 in 20+ countries globally and become the highest certified female song of all-time (along with "Firework) - going 11x Platinum. She closed the era with 2 cute top 25 hits "Birthday" (#17) and "This Is How We Do" (#24) before wrapping up the era. It earned the second largest US sales week of 2013 by a female artist with 286k copies (behind Beyonce's self-titled album) and is certified 5x Platinum by the RIAA, spending 17 weeks in the top 10 alone. It was the 8th biggest album of 2014 in the USA.
Bingo Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I still remember staying up and tuning in for the iHeart Radio PRISM Album Release Party like it was yesterday
Robburro Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 JUSTICE FOR GHOST her **** *** deserved to flop after ignoring this holy song
Vixen Eyes Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 someone leak the songs from the original "dark" concept for the album.
ithinkheknowsoutsold Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 So many good songs on this album, Katy truly was in her bag in 2013
Vroom Vroom Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Such an underrated era. In a lot of ways it made improvements to the Teenage Dream formula. Dark Horse might be her most remembered hit song. Next to Firework

hardbrit Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 This was such an EVENT. I remember being pissed Walking on Air wasn't released as a single
MingYouToo Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I remember the HDD threads about her team going all out for promo, the Golden PRISM truck that ended up hitting a pedestrian who was a Brandy stan (idk why it was included in the report), the seed packets that came with the limited edition versions, the Clear Channel deals left right and center for the audience to pick the next single, the era was INSANE. Oh and that one time her lead clashed with Gaga's Applause and everyone thought Gaga would obliterate her, the ATRL lashings, the GIF of that wheelchair going down the stairs, that one stan wishing that crippled Monster would just die and lose her other leg , all the GIF edits were iconic for all the wrong reasons!
Dystopian Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 her best album, but the era was horribly mismanaged.
UThinkUrMovinOnBut Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 After Dark Horse they should have tried something "edgier" like Legendary Lovers instead of playing it safe with Birthday.

So agree with this
halcyonday Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Her best album and would have been bigger than Teenage Dream if she released Legendary Lovers and Walking on Air instead of Birthday and TIHWD.

Topaz Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 The album tracks are genuinely so spiritual and love like. I believe Legendary Lovers and Walking On Air would have secured two more top 10's vs the other two final singles, but they also did their job. Ghost and Love Me are so dreamy. My favorite album tracks.

UseYourIllusion2002 Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 The way I was only 11 when this album came out, yet I remember when it was released like yesterday iconic era, she should’ve followed it up sooner and should’ve released an album around the Super Bowl.
governmenthooker96 Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Her best album imo Legendary Lovers ft Drake would have been one of her biggest songs, wish that would have happened in spring 2014 Then Walking On Air in summer 2014 Birthday and TIHWD are nice album tracks but a step backwards soundwise
