Ellie Goulding - 'Higher Than Heaven'

I'm so satisfied with this album, it checked out everything I was expecting since she posted all song teasers on twitter last year. For me, it flows really well and I love a pop album dedicated to be fun for its fullest even though she's trying to downplay this lol

Let It Die is still by far the best song, and it surprised me to see that it was the last written song but Midnight Dreams, Higher Than Heaven, Tastes Like You and Better Man all make an impeccable top 5. This album will probably be my Loneliest Time of 2023 meaning I will play on repeat unconsciously while working, jogging and driving. Well done Elena!!

So she's had this absolute BOP in the vaults for 6 years? That's crazy. :rip:

Didn't she say she was struggling to finish it for a long time?

Tastes Like You is such a euphoric anthem omg :jonny5:one of her best, it's so catchy and I love the lyrics. How was that not a single?? Should have been the lead tbh

I can’t believe the flutes almost didn’t make Like a Saviour. I feel like they’re so essential to the song

Such a shame the way this era has been treated. It could have been soo much better & impactful.

The lack of concern or care from her label is disgusting

I still think the album is very cohesive though 🤷🏻‍♂️

It is but I do think it’s simply because her generic pop is all very similar and hasn’t really changed since she started working with Greg Kurstin.

My guess is she knew she it was single material but she had too many single material type songs for one album so she sat on it.

Why are people so obsessed with where it charts. Just enjoy the music dear god.:biblio:

Tbh her label can only do so much. She’s treating this era as contractual obligation, her heart isn’t in it as much as her previous albums.

Her team are probably chilling as much as she is.

I love all the psychoanalysts that exist online. How was most of the last era also not treated as a contractual obligation with the label seemingly dictating all of the constant EGO tracks to exist to appeal to the streaming demographic? If anything, she’s touring much more for this release, too. And all of the signings.

Because this album is literally half filled with songs that didn’t make her last two albums lmao. I doubt very much that Ellie would use scraps going back from 2016 if she was fully invested in this album.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good body of work. But for her standards it’s very generic and almost feels like she gave in to her label who basically demanded radio tracks with her last album and recorded nothing but for the most part.

I have a feeling once her contract is up she may go independent.

Thank god. Brightest Blue would've been #1 with a better label

Brightest Blue was #1 though?

The irony that for both Brightest Blue and Higher than Heaven prior to the album release she had a #1 Single (River and Miracle) but they didn't feature on the albums
