Shakira's Official Top 10 biggest singles revealed (UK)

Shakira has held the Queen of Latin Pop title for over 15 years, since the release of Laundry Service - the album that turned her into a global star after a decade dominating the Latin markets.

Since then, she's released a further three English records, and more recently, the streaming era has opened up her popular Spanish cuts to a UK audience.

To celebrate the release of her 9th album El Dorado, and to get us in the summer spirit, we're revealing which are officially her biggest tracks to date. First up, let's take a look at some notable entries...
She Wolf

She Wolf
A-WOO! The lead single from Shakira's third English album of the same name was a near-perfect balance infectious hooks and her signature eccentric lyrics - find us someone can't relate to the line, "I'm starting to feel just a little abused like a coffee machine in an office"!
The result was a hit on the Official Chart, peaking at Number 4 in 2009 - one of six Top 10 hits for the singer. To date it's sold 354,000 and places fifth in her UK best sellers list. She Wolf has also been streamed 3.2 million times since records began in 2014.

Waka Waka
Released as the theme song for the 2010 World Cup, Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) may have only reached Number 21 in the UK, but it actually boasts the second longest chart run of Shakira's singles in the UK at 33 weeks in the Top 100. It's total sales to date are 412,000, while its streaming count is currently 8.7 million plays.

Beautiful Liar
Beyonce Beyonce, Shakira Shakira... Beautiful Liar is Shakira's most recent Number 1 in the UK, topping the Official Chart for three weeks in 2007. It's her third biggest seller with 447,000 sales, plus 5.1 million streams.

Whenever, Wherever
The song that put Shakira on the global stage, Whenever Wherever's quena flute intro, pan pipe-lead chorus and lyrics about her small and humble breasts make it Latin-pop at is most beautifully bonkers. With 763,000 sales and 9.6 million streams under its belt, it's the star's second biggest single.

Chantaje
Spanish language singles have a history of not performing well in the UK (Justin Bieber-assisted songs aside), meaning the lead single from Shakira's new album hasn't been given much of a push in the UK. Which is shame, because it's considered by many as one of her stronger releases in recent years. It's already her fifth most streamed song in the UK, with 6.6 million plays so far.

Hips Don't Lie
Undeniably Shakira's best-known song, Hips Don't Lie dominated the summer of 2006, logging five weeks at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart, famously denying Christina Aguilera's Ain't No Other Man the top spot one week. It's both her best-selling and most streamed song, with 792,000 sales and 20.3 million streams.

I guess that explains why her best song, La Tortura, is missing from the list :cm:

When A Woman is coming for this list.

I'm surprised Did It Again is in the top 10. I love the song, but I always considered it a flop single.

She's much, much bigger in Germany and France.

In the U.K., her album sales are strong and WW and HDL are massive.

Laundry Service - 900k

Fijacion Oral, Vol 1 - 15k

Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 - 400k

She Wolf - 145k

Shakira - 40k

She's had a big career in the U.K. but a lack of English releases during the market's heyday really held her back.

I always knew she was huge in France and Germany.  But I just thought she was huge in the UK too. Still a little shocking that she has a song that sold 164K in her top 10 tho..

She's got less than 20 English singles and her peak coincided with the crash of the global singles market (2001/2002). Once the market grew again at a huge rate (2010-2012) her success was mostly over and she was 20 years in to her career. Her U.K. single sales are still solid and she did really well there (and the fact that HDL has 20M streams is incredible and speaks to her current power). She's most likely among the top 40 most successful females in the U.K. still.

No shade but her sales are pretty tragic, specially if you take into account she blew up in the physical single sales-digital sales era. Not even 800k for Hips Don't Lie is very tragic. :rip:

But yeah, this only proves she's nowhere as big outside of South America as her fans make her to be.

Oh look, a troll.

When combining physical/digital sales AND streams converted into chart sales, "Hips Don't Lie" is at 995,000 with "Whenever Wherever" at 859,000.

If anything this proves that she had 5 big hits in the UK, while CRTFY actually did good in sales + streaming. All of that with only 4 English studio albums :clap3:. Firt hit 2001, last so far 2017, longevity is there. And the streaming looks good too, especially for a Spanish song like Chantaje.

Whenever, Wherever was the 36th best-selling song of the decade and Hips Don't Lie was the 46th :deadbanana: HDL has incredible catalog stats and will become a Million-selling single under the combined sales method in a few weeks.

Her fans definitely inflate her stats, but she's still pretty solid in the U.K. Her stats there just look awful when compared with her immaculate French, German and Colombian sales.

an anthem, a masterpiece, a classic :clap3:
