Supposed to see this with my niece and nephew tonight as long as a big storm doesn’t blow through. Not really bother med by the reviews like… it’s a children’s movie… but of course we’ll see how it goes!

The picture of them writing on a Notepad about character development is just funny. I’m sure it’s as bland as they say, but yeah makes sense fans just want thier easter eggs and something for thier kids to watch. It ain’t that deep.

I purposely left Disney movies out so no one could say critics are biased towards them.

 

As someone mentioned yesterday, Mario is tracking to be the 2nd or 3rd lowest reviewed movie ever on both RT and MC for this studio - a studio that is already infamous online for making movies with mediocre reception.

Nintendo fans will make sure this stays high so it's not really believable either. I would say the Letterboxd 3.5 feels about right.

 The biggest mistake story-wise was making this the origin story of Mario. Does anyone really care about Mario's origins and family

The fact they told a better story in Super Mario Galaxy and should've just adapted that

As a huge nintendo fan, this was such a TREAT to watch. yes, simple plot but jesus the fan service here is wild. so many easter eggs, my eyes didnt know where to go. the soundtrack made me emotional at times. nostalgia at its absolute best. people trying to drag it w/ “ofc superfans will like it” like thats not all that it needs to do. 

 

its already on track to beat minions opening weekend and will have an enormous 127m 5- day weekend. any casual mario fan will really enjoy it. its a blockbuster smasha i fear!

This was good.  The visuals and music were the highlights, but it's a really good time for Mario fans, I can assure that.  It wasn't bad, tbh. At times, it felt kinda rushed but I guess that's because it's a kids movie. Don't think there was some intention to make a deep cut ala Coco or something like that.

Just got back from this and…. I kind of loved it. It was basically exactly what I was expecting and had a blast. I had so much fun, thought it was great and it looked amazing.

Just finished watching and it was actually really enjoyable. Amazing visuals and so many fan service moments!!

I wish they would've paced some moments better and had a more orchestral rendition of some of the songs. But this had so much heart and genuine moments I’ll look past the few minor flaws
