F*cking hell. Some of you are TRASH human beings. Tf is this?

Ok I apologise as this was very mean spirited in hindsight.:swan:

But the ppl who needed to see this movie for it to be a success (women in their 20s and 30s) were not gonna check it out for 2 guys approaching middle age. They should’ve gotten a KNOWN actress in her 30s to play a self insert f** h** for women to be able to relate to.:lakitu:

Why must he have had a feminine side because he’s gay? It’s a weird thing to just put on someone and is literally nothing but  a stereotype

because everyone, gay, straight, male, female, etc has a feminine side? we all have masculinity and femininity in us and the person they were responding to was calling this film not "normal" and sjw for... showing gay men as being fem? despite one of the main characters literally being masc :skull:

at least Ryan Murphy is smashing with Dahmer, gays stay winning! :alexz2:

OT: it's a cis white gay romantic comedy. The homophobes weren't gonna see it ( so there goes a 40% of the country that watch movies) and the POCs weren't gonna support a gay film about to white dudes and stereotypes no matter how good it is. Add in the claims that this is the first major studio gay film ( it aint) and Billy's meltdowns on Twitter and there you go.

Honestly if Disney was smart they should've released Fire Island in theaters back in June and that would've done much  better than Bros especially since FI had more noise on Social Media than this when it released.

Him convincing himself the straights didn’t show up to ease his mind over the flop numbers :rip:

The gays didn’t show up either, love

now let's not pretend Fire Island would've done much better :dies:

in my experience most gay people are not into romcoms (myself included), and the straight people who are usually like them because they want to project themselves onto the lead characters, which they can't do when it's a gay romcom

with that being said, i actually found the trailer to be ok, it's just not the right genre for me. the internalised homophobia here is not cute! from what I've seen it looks like a pretty standard romcom but gay.

also I don't find Billy's tweets that bad, he's clearly passionate about this film and that's good for him, there's nothing wrong with that.

he's also right about the fact that certain people will not support it only because they are homophobes. idk why ATRL is so pressed at every successful gay person, it's getting weird

It def wouldve done 10-12 million opening and finished around 30 million US alone. Which wouldve been fine since its budgeted at 10 million. People complaining that it didnt do too well on Hulu forgot that not many people have Hulu and the excitement there was when the film was announced as a theatrical release.

What I don't like is the standard queer rainbow culture. I'm not saying it's wrong, I just find it extremely cringey, as do many others.

you writing an essay about how you don't have internalised homophobia only to drop this sentence in there without even a tiny bit of thought or self-reflection :deadbanana4:

like, why is queer culture 'cringey' to you? cringe is just a reflection of internalised shame, there's clearly a lot you have to unpack

if you don't want participate in queer culture or associate yourself with queer people, fine, you do you, but you are no better, you are not 'normal', and you don't deserve more representation than other queer people just because you are desperate for cishet approval

Some people are really exposing themselves here over a gay comedy they didn't watch :dies:

You are very clearly missing the point. It's really not that deep. I find queer culture to be weird and lame. The rainbow everything, the loud, sassy drag queen stuff, and especially the creepy hookup world are not for me. They're not for me in the same way I dislike the culture around Dungeons and Dragons, for example. Am I internalizing hatred for my inner nerd now? No, I'm simply not into it, just as the majority of people.

That doesn't make me better than anyone who participates in it. I'm sure people find the things I'm interested in weird too. And although all these cultural elements are particular to a specific people of the same sexuality, it is a socially constructed world that has been created, changed, and will continue to evolve over time. And because of that, it is possible to separate culture from sexuality, and dislike it without it being h0mOpHoBiA......just like the nerdy games out there.

i wonder if Happiest Season could have done decently in theaters. Inexpensive, and Kristen Stewart in a fun indie would have drawn some eyeballs.

I would have watched if it had Chris Evans instead of Billy Eichner. :gaycat6:

You get this from a movie that mocks this in its very trailers? :deadbanana4:

And I appreciate that it does....the scene when all the guys run over to them while they kiss was funny too. But everything else about both trailer and press/marketing have been lame.

Billy Eichner is in his Billie Frank era.

Apparently the gays are eating up the Jeffery Star Netflix series

Okay then stop talking sh*t about queer media that don't pander to the cishet gaze.

Edit: And yes your feelings of cringe about D&D probably also stem from shame and fear of being afraid of being seen as a lame nerd by society. Nothing is inherently cringy, all of those feelings come from your insecurities and how you were socialised :)

Again, that doesn't mean you have to participate in it or like it but to go on tirades about how awful it is is not normal behaviour.
